As I recall its both the exoskeleton and their respiritory system (tubes that would need to be too big to function... oh I can't remember) but that is over come by their sheer coolness as I said...

Spiracles! Chitinous insects breathe through spiracles.* There's a functional limit to how big an insect can be and oxygenate its body that way — if you need spiracles the size of manholes then, obviously, there are distinct disadvantages to having numerous permanently open holes in your otherwise-quite-resilient exoskeleton, for a start.

Heh. Interesting!  I remember that film with giant cockroaches that mimic* humans in the New York** underground.
The scientists did an autopsy of one of the bugs only to find they'd evolved lungs. They had also evolved exoskeletons on their heads that looked like human faces from a distance.
Kinda silly, but the stuff of nightmares at the same time. Kudos to them for considering the science.... stretch though it was.

* I had forgotten the name of the film but then it suddenly presented itself while typing that sentence . Mimic.

**I think it was NY. It might have been another large American city with a large underground network

For all the people grumbling about Regened, it must be doing something right. You don't get to volume 5 in a series in the hope it'll start selling; it must already be selling.

I really don't mind the regened issues. I can understand people not liking them since these things are subjective (and I don't like every story in every issue of mainline prog anyway, does anyone?) but I never really got the complaints as they're only four a year anyway. Sure, it means waiting an extra week to catch up with ongoing stories in the main prog, but...it's just one week. On occasion.

I have also enjoyed a couple of the stories that get enfolded into the main Prog too. Most recent one with the giant mutated critters* has been decent.

*Don't take my not being able to remember the name off-hand as less a negative  comment on the quality of the story, and more a negative comment m on the quality of my dur-brains. And my being too lasy to look it up right now. There are plenty of names of stories (comics, novels, films, otherwise) that I just can't remember and  yet I really like them.

++SPOILERS++

I did enjoy that episode but...

- Why wait until the ceiling door is opened before boarding the transport?
- It took approximately one second for 200 people to get on board.

Good points. I'd say we don't know that the, more vulnerable didn't board the ship early, and the rest had a lot of stuff to do in the meantime, including fighting off imperials to give
Leia time to do her bit.
Quote
- There was one ship shown at all times - where did the decoy ship come from?
It was hidden behind the other one.

Quote
- Who was flying the decoy?
I wondered that too, but I'd imagine there were a few off-screen characters capable. Or they used remote control.

Quote
- Why didn't Vader stop the real one as he had just stopped the decoy?

Using the Force takes focus. He'd just used it to pull a craft out of the sky and rip it apart (incidentally, wasnt that a cool scene?) and the hidden second craft surprised him. It got away before he could bring his will to hear.

Quote
- Why didn't Vader see the real one on the ground behind the decoy?

X-Ray vision isn't part of a sith lord's power-set.The craft was hidden behind the other, and it was a smaller vessel (i think).  His name is 'Darth Vader' not 'Johnny Alpha', or 'Kal-el'. (And they'd have to think there was a need to turn it on.)

Quote
What's the point of all the Stormtroopers if Vader can just go in alone whenever he wants?

They have other functions when he isn't around, but I think it's mostly a matter of appearance from Vader's POV in this circumstance. And some of them were busy being slaughtered by Obi-Wan at that point,😉 so I guess they had a.... yeah, I guess they proved kind of useless

Quote
- Why did Third Sister think she could kill him without a distraction *in that moment*?

I think she knew she was taking a chance that might not pay off, but it probably seemed a good opportunity when he appeared so distracted. And her recent exchange with Obi-wan likely spurred her on.

Quote- How did Obi-Wan escape captivity - it's not clear.
I agree they should have shown more there. I guess even an unpracticed Jedi (who has improved by this episode, to be fair) is a match for stormtroopers, but there did seem rather a lot of them.

Well that's going to narrow it down to pretty much the entire room then!

Heh. The air conditioning has kept me feeling suitably chilly so I've mainly kept the hat on.

Disney+ could easily join that club in the time between Marvel TV series.

Although they're being quite canny about the large overlap between Marvel fans and Star Wars fans — there's rarely been more than a very few weeks between either a Marvel or SW series running (see: Moon Knight wrapping up today and Obi-Wan starting three weeks later, for example).

So true for me. I only really get Disney + for the Marvel and Star War series (I like both) and I tend to unsubscribe if there's a long break between. I haven't unsubscribed in a while.

Do you have to watch it on YouTube, or is it available on tv in the UK?

Legally speaking it will be available in the UK on Paramount plus on 22nd June 2022.

Or using a VPN to appear to be in the US territory and watching the US Paramount version, might work. But you'll likely be forking out for the VPN too. (I had a free one on my iPad* but it required watching ads to store up time. Not a big issue for me as they're not long, but it might bug some people. I haven't tried it on Paramount Plus yet as I'm concerned about paying for a subscription only for it not to work. And June isn't far off really. A nuisance it's not on Netflix or Amazon Prime though.

*Which I've now sold. I should see if I can get it or similar for my new Samsung device.

Aside from initial ticket hiccup, which was totally my fault, my journey had been pretty smooth too, so far.

Anyone wishing to place me at event I'll probably be wearing black clothes* and a black trilby, unless it's rather hot, in which case I'll be wearing a dodgy balding hair-do-, which is part of the reason for the hat. (But I try not to get too precious about it.) Between beer slurps, I'll likely be wearing a face mask to complete the gangster look. Or keep people, and myself, safe from COVID. One of the two. Or both. (Hardly anyone wears them anymore judging by my train journey. And now someone is sitting next to me. Go away! )

I actually had a costume last time which didn't quite work because the shoulder armour wouldn't curve around my shoulders properly and looked like it was floating. I ended up leaving it off and just looked like a regular bloke in a black outfit. I hoped to fix it this year and even had a couple of extra things to augment the look but I realised last minute I'd lost  the armour!**

*Which doesn't really set me apart from a lot of comic nerds.

**Now I come across like a kinky snecker!

Bizarrely, Hilton prices have now dropped quite a bit - over £150 cheaper than last time I checked- still not cheap, but I'm going to splash out and treat myself. It's always nice to be able to just roll out of the bar into the lift!

That is nice. My hotel is a bit over a mile away but that's better than the one I booked last time which turned out to be four miles from the convention! ( I don't think I quite realised until I got there, although it was just a single somewhat lengthy bus ride,.) A mile is no big deal as I walk it to the main shops regularly anyway.

I'm on the train now on my way. There was a worrying moment when I realised late on Wednesday that I'd booked my outgoing train ticket for Saturday instead of Friday. I sorted a replacement but GWR would only post a physical replacement ticket (original tickets are e-tickets) which didn't arrive until this morning! Intercepted the postman on the way to the station.

News / Re: Hiya Toys Judge Dredd range?

Nice to see these available on more sites now. It seemed to be only a couple. I was able to preorder Hershey and the Dredd/ Lawmaker at Star Action Figures. (Figures tend to be a bit cheaper there than other UK sites,  although the Lawmaster seems about the same. )

I war going to give the Lawmaster a miss since I have the 3a version but I couldn't resist.  While of a similar design this is actually a different.

Judge Anderson and Klegg are now available to pre-order from Zavvi.

Cheers

Thank you, pre-ordered both. I'd have liked Anderson in the larger scale but as she hasn't been mentioned... didn't want to chance it. Looks very nice. And it will be nice to have am Anderson figure work proper artculation after that  ReAction figure. And face resembles Olivia Thirlby somewhat!

I'd like some of these but I'd prefer them in 1:12 rather than 1:18 scale.  Here's hoping the line does well enough to continue.

Me too. I'm waiting for 1:12 for Judge Death. I never got the 3a version, but I did get the other 3a Dark Judges, so he should fit with them.

I did order the 1:18 Giant and Judge Fire though. As they're kinda niche, and there is no mention of their being developed in 1:12 (which isn't to say they won't be,  I just don't want to chance it) I thought I'd better order them. I'll likely do the same for Anderson and the Klegg.

Not sure I'll order the 1:12 version of Dredd since I have two versions already by other companies including 3a. If he is anything like this 1/18 I'll be tempted. I like the style.

I got FP mixed up with Zavvi there. And I see giant is available now. https://www.zavvi.com/merch-action-figures/hiya-toys-judge-dredd-exquisite-mini-1-18-scale-figure-judge-giant/13717190.html?rctxt=defaultLooks like his lawgiver is set to boomerang shot mode, though. ;-)

I love action figures and I'm tempted. I have the 3a versions of Dredd*, Mortis and Fear already at a slightly bigger scale, so... think I should pass on those but... again tempted. They're very nicely detailed, aren they?

I hope to get the larger version of Death when he becomes available, since I missed him with 3a and I think he'll scale best with the 3a figures. (It seems a strange choice to me to have two scales of figures only an inch apart. 3a had two different scales, too, but they were far more extreme.)

Fire and Giant though, will they do the 6 inch versions of these? I'm not convinced since they are more niche characters. I will likely order these.

Last I checked , Giant wasn't available at the FP shop (US Big Bad Toy Store had both. And they're charging the same amount in dollars as we pay in pounds. Grrr. ) but hopefully he'll turn up at some point.

*Amd the Mezco version of him. Both rather different but equally great versions in my view. I forked oh for the two lawgivers too.

Curiously I'm way behind on the main Walking Dead show, (I have seen the first three series I think),  but I've caught most of Fear...(yet to see the sixth). I have meant to catch up on the main show but I find the prospect of where to jump on again a bit daunting. I.e I will need to rewatch a bit to catch up but I'm not sure where. I don't want to watch it all, and there's so much to get through...

I haven't seen the one based on the kids yet.

I didn't catch the first episodes on time on Pluto (it's nice it's freely available there, but I've gotten so used to non broadcast TV. To think that for much of my life that was how I watched most TV but now I'm so into streaming and watching things when I want I just didn't take to this.)  I ended up buying the series on Amazon Prime.

I've mostly enjoyed Discovery from the start, (with some reservations) so I might be a poor judge, but I think that those of you who are cynical about watching Discovery due to arguably not retaining the tone of true Trek, might be pleasantly surprised by this latest series.
