Books & Comics / Wasteland - free comic download
28 September, 2006, 08:38:24 AM
'WASTELAND is a new comic book series by Antony Johnston (Spooked, The Long Haul, Queen & Country: Declassified) and Christopher Mitten (The Tomb, Past Lies, Queen & Country: Declassified), published by Oni Press.

Wasteland takes place one hundred years after the Big Wet, a disaster that destroyed most of the world as we know it. Half the world is now covered by poisonous, rising oceans. What dry land remains is a broken, infertile world of hard ground and harder living.

Into this world steps Michael, a scavenger who roams the wasteland, trading what he can salvage. But Michael's latest find will change his life for ever - a machine that talks in a forgotten language, supposedly giving directions to the fabled land of A-Ree-Yass-I, where mankind's downfall began.'

Just picked this up from newsagent. Great cover by Cliff Robinson. Has got Shako, a future shock by Grant Morrison & Project Overkill.

I remember Shako from an annual but this version seems longer. Can't remember Project Overkill at all, great art by Ian Gibson & Jesus Redondo.http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/lisa_loppit/Shako.jpg">

Help! / Mandroid - The Sequel
05 September, 2006, 10:30:27 PM
One of our pages is missing.

Where Detective Judge Armitage, played by Derek Nimmo, Nate Slaughterhouse and a gang of eldster nannies are pursued round Brit-Cit after stealing the skeletal remains of Satanus pursued by a horde of Sino-Cit Judges led by Efil Drago San, played by Peter Ustinov, and the Emperor Judge himself, also played by Peter Ustinov, in search of the missing page of Mandroid art.

After scanning the Mandroid pages I'd received I noticed that one page was missing. I've spoken to the guy who handled the auction & he's doing what he can but any other help would be much appreciated, I've already pledged more money to the charity for the page & I'll make a donation to the pub/bar of your choice if you help in locating the page. (ie Give you money for alcohol. Or chocolate, you can buy chocolate if you wish.)

Many thanks.

Funny & odd.

The pic from Dark Knight Returns' dialogue could easily be replaced with 'A fez is a hat.'

Inspired by the recent thread inspired by the recent Meg thread, thank you Mr Solo, what's 2000AD's coolest non-Dredd moment?

This gets my vote.

Film & TV / Japan - is this true?
11 August, 2006, 04:43:15 AM
Mr Kermode. Or anybody else with Japanese cultural knowledge.

At the pub this evening a shocking 'fact' was revealed to me. In Japan, Sesame Street doesn't have the Count character.

Is this true? Anybody know why?

Help! / Can you remember this film?
10 August, 2006, 11:16:13 PM
After Rio's trip down memory lane I'm hoping for help trying to track down a film that has been bugging me for years.

I reckon it's late seventies early eighties & it was roughly the same time I remember seeing Shogun Assassin for the first time.

The film is set in a hotel on a tropical beach/island & the main plot is a group of tourists go off into the jungle & after a series of accidents/angry locals there are only three left trying to get back to the safety of the hotel.

The scenes I remember are towards the end of the film a guy is on a stretcher being carried across a waterfall by two other survivors, both I think are women but may be wrong. Halfway across they slip & the guy is hanging down the waterfall screaming before they drop him/he falls off the stretcher.

The other scene is the last scene where the last survivor, who is a woman, is on the edge of the jungle in sight of the hotel & just as she tries to leave the jungle she is caught by the natives & dragged off while reaching out to the hotel where you see a man being served drinks by the pool. (with an excited expression on his face as he reads an Abaddon book!)

Any help would be grateful.

The Music Genome Project

'On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever.

Together we set out to capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level. We ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or "genes" into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It's not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it's about what each individual song sounds like.

Over the past 6 years, we've carefully listened to the songs of over 10,000 different artists - ranging from popular to obscure - and analyzed the musical qualities of each song one attribute at a time. This work continues each and every day as we endeavor to include all the great new stuff coming out of studios, clubs and garages around the world.

It has been quite an adventure, you could say a little crazy - but now that we've created this extraordinary collection of music analysis, we think we can help be your guide as you explore your favorite parts of the music universe.'

Which boils down to you enter a song/artist you like &  it plays similar.
