The one with a 24 page Jason Brashill Dredd. That was the worst.

With Siku I think (disregarding the Pan African student art) he quickly became a fairly competent stylist. Whether or not you LIKE that style is a different matter but compared to Steve Sampson or Marc Whigmore he clearly had ability they lacked. Whigmore and Siku did a few Sin Dex on alt weeks early on (1060 / 70s) and its clear who had the ability.

Siku's not generally my cup of tea but his final Prog Dredd 'MeatMonger' really is a very interesting atmospheric effective tale through his style. It certainly would have been a very different piece had someone like Marshall approached it. His recent interview in the Meg reminded me of someone like McCrea - amazing amounts of talent and an independent streak. Maybe a pain for Tharg but definitely a key element in 2000AD not looking like other comics.

2000AD has to keep developing artists and - unlike some other 'new' talent of the time - Siku is definitely one of the successes. Its a shame he's not doing more. His lawmasters certainly ROCKED.

BTW - soz for bringing up the swipe file least anyone should think these artists deserve mention in a thread with this title.

at 99p - 1.99 tho you'd be mad to wait for ebay shenanigans.

Have 4 for me and now 2 'quality' (Cam Kennedy & Cabs) to give to lapsed readers to seduce them back to 2000AD. Much fecking better than a copy of clint.

Storming Heaven, Simping Detective, Henry Flint & Droid life for 7 quid. BONZA.

Ha! Brilliant!
That's better than this old shit:

One suspects thats all photoshoppe trickery and may come to a sticky end if trying to recreate it in a narrative strip. Which is what Langley does brilliantly.

I read the Brit-Cit Babes book over the weekend, and it's very poor.
In fairness though, what Sampson is doing these days is astonishingly good.

yes, he's certainly doing 'impressive' work thesedays - http://www.stevesampson.com/

steve sampson was horrendous - but Marc Whigmore really really took the biscuit for that school.

As bad as this is it doesn't touch the 'genius' of his 'almost all white' pages for Outlaw

am just going to buy issue 2 so that they 'gain' a reader and the drop off figures don't look so horrific

So anyone wants to chuck me issue one feel free. It has got a free space spinner - right?

I have to say, and I doubt that anyone will agree with me, the 2 artists from recent times whose Dredd work did nowt for me are Carl Critchlow and John Burns.

Burns in particular draws Dredd wearing dayglo green washing up gloves and a KFC bucket on his head. I don't like Carl Critchlow's art at all to be honest but I love Burns on Dante. His style just doesn't suit Dredd.

Burns 'Dredd World' is great but sometimes his actual Joe does look a bit like a skinny old man having a seizure. He's in that odd bracket where its neither 'great artist suits strip' nor 'great artist wrong strip'. Think like some of the other cited examples his Dredd is just too thin at times. Locke was the same.

Critchlow is BLOODY BRILLIANT - Dredd, the supporting cast (excellent Hersey and Dan Francisco)the tech and city. Maybe his MC1 is close to Gibsons hence my love but I can't see why anyone would object. Great colours too.

Ouch. "Place in the top 11" - that's like being a great white blues singer.

well now he could well have been in The Commitments so its a fair comment.

Actually I feel real embarrassed about leaving him out as he was much my favourite '2nd wave' of dredd artists. Oz, Bloodlines etc.. amazing.

somewhere out there there is a very good 'swipe files' showing Ian Kennedy using tracing paper on a McMahon Dredd. So at least he had taste.

I really dig the D'Israeli Dredd story with the time traveller? Can't remember the name. I thought that was great.

Yeah there were two of those...Edington wrote 'em...but I can't recall the names of the strips either.

3 of em

tempus fugitive - 1390
time and again - 1475
time squared - 1551

The lad from casefiles 16 (the boy who thought he wasn't) and the fella who drew the 'Tharg's Xmas party' reprinted in The Restricted Files 01.  The drawings of Alpha and Wulf in the latter produce real actual LOLs each time i see them.

Compared to those two everything else is genius level. Even Steve 'hahahaitskurtcobain' Sampson.
