whereas i think its beautiful with a fluency, movement, sense of depth and ability to convey the emotions of the characters that most artists never attain.

maybe its the format of the show - 3 times per episode you (as a collective) are negative about it. 3x 'i dont know the characters' 3x 'his art is unfinished' etc. Maybe thats the problem. It does become overwhelming negative.

no offence like, long as you are having fun your free to do whatchalike innit.

DREDD - He robbed the bank so he could get the media attention and make his point about brains rather than speed to the girl.

Sin-Dex - Kal shoots the henchmen first so he can live (ie stop them killing him) and then get his 'time to die'  lecture at the real target. (or move to the next plot point obv.)

wish you lot would give over about The Red Seas.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Books
Just finished - The land of green plumbs by herta muller - life under Ceausescu - sorta an extreme torture-Kafka and pretty unreadable despite excellent prose.

Just started - American Tabloid by James Ellroy. Bit of light relief after the above.

Comics -

just finished Fluorscent Black in Heavy Metal. Nathan Fox would be a good prog artist. Writing was a bit confused and the traditional 'wtf happened when this last appeared last year' problem with Heavy Metal'. Nay bad.

Just Started - nowt. Waiting for Mega City Masters to appear.

If I like 2000ad and I'm interested how is it insane to articulate my feelings for it?

You're being anti-intellectual and trying to kill debate with a "if you don't like it, leave" attitude. Problem is we're on a forum and forums are for discussions...

Stop trying to troll eh? Theres nothing 'anti-intellectual' about thinking you, scojo and anyone wittering on about 'canon' and alleging Wagner is now 'writing fanfic' (odd you both do) is simply seeking to impose YOUR subjective views and a definitive narrative coherency onto a divergent compendium of fictional tales (that 'intellectual' enough for you? More a 'meaning is constructed between the work and the audience Mearleau-Ponty type of person myself). Those two fighting Star Trek fans on South Park? Thats you that is.

Your comments on Wagner are every bit as bizzaro unwelcome as anything written by on that alt.comics board but you don't seem to see it. He's 'mental' your not. Cognitive dissonance and all that. Shit better not mention that, dont want to be anti-intellectual.

Now take a box of tissues and your mwelling elsewhere bucko because its tedious, irrelevant and nobody really gives a toss. ITS A STORY. GET IT?

BPP, it's absolutely fine for a consumer of a product to develop critical ideas about that product.

They usually just go buy Pepsi instead of ranting about how the latest rebranding is a slight on their brand-loyalty to date.

Lilly McKenzie is fantastic. Sure its a slower pace than the typical 2000AD story but with that art who cares - like a good BD.. great art, good characters, nothing happens till book III. Love it.

Confessions of a... Pink haired Shorty might be nearer the mark (although frankly not enough confessions if you get my drift).

Ah... there's no formal announcement, but, sadly, we're on hiatus :( (Basically, Ron and Scott are working ridiculous hours - Scott is on night shifts and finishes, often at 7/8AM - starting at 11 and Ron's hours are just as barmy...)

BAD THINGS. :'(

I'll do a guest spot. That'll KILL the whole project.

Even ms. BPP is missing your swearing. Actually sleep deprived Scott sounds like a ratings winner. And sure we know Ron was just a cypher for the romance blossoming between you and Mrs Ron. AND i was going to win that 'competition' to win a Happy Valleys' artwork you rashly proclaimed.

cheers for that... off to hunt the progs down to see the ones i can't recall. Lovely stuff and tempted.. so so tempted.

Pete I've said 'i don't like X' etc but try to do it sparingly. I mean there is one 20 year vet of 2000AD whose art appears in about 20 progs a year and I REALLY don't like it but there is no point banging on about it like a broken record... indeed it dosn't even stop me enjoying the story it illustrates. Rarely is there something i think is worth shouting about (a few very very shoddy pages in the Meg a while back) and say 'this isnt up to standard'. Most of it is just aesthetic judgement and there is only so much legitimacy that can hold. Pointing out logical bloopers or flaws in the script are fine too - provided its not couched in abuse.

But the point was about the whole 'is life and death plausible / consistent with canon' etc... all that is BS. Wagner wrote another Alpha story.. I loved it (as a x-part SD story, not because it 'affected' FS / Monsters / Dogs etc).. some didn't. Thats about all you can say.

I mean I LOVE lobster Random. LOVE. I'd love to see him back. But if the story wasn't consistent with The Vort or if he dies at the end or whatever.. WHO CARES.. its more Lobster Random than i'd otherwise have got to read. (I use LOB because I love it and its seemingly forgotten) It would take Lobster Random to be given to some real stinker hack writer and awful artist for me to REALLY voice 'this sucks'. Nothing in 2000AD sucks.. not even when 'I' don't like it. Thats cause the editor is fucking good at his job.

thing that gets me about all this.. including our own Jim Vs thread... its just a fupping comic.. if ya don't like it don't read it (like me and Fleisher stories) but arguing over what is canon, whether Life & Death fits Monsters or FS... LARF. At the point you get into all that you need to go read something else instead. And if its REALLY bugging ya then just say to yourself 'infinite universes' and pretend you like the one where Alpha is dead / alive *delete as appropriate*. Cause its ALL pretend at the end of the day. Drawing 'fine lines' where YOUR pretend 'holds' and Wagners dosn't is SILLY.

And IF he should be looking at all this mess - ignore all these threads Mr Wagner (and all other 2000AD contributors) - you ALL do brilliant work.*

* even the ones whose art / stories i'm not so hot on.. cause i know thats just me.
