In this episode the guys look at progs 1696-98 and discuss that age old question : is it the size of your gun or what you do with it?
As usual expect spoilers throughout and language not suitable for the kiddies.

DREDD - He robbed the bank so he could get the media attention and make his point about brains rather than speed to the girl.

Sin-Dex - Kal shoots the henchmen first so he can live (ie stop them killing him) and then get his 'time to die'  lecture at the real target. (or move to the next plot point obv.)

wish you lot would give over about The Red Seas.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Again, 'Red Seas' is a bit hit and miss. As long as it's in the Prog...we're not likely to 'give over about'. I ahve liked some of it but did find the last few a bit ho-hum.

Kal in that last panel looks like he's shooting his main target and not henchmen. In the episode after...he shoots the henchmen. If he is supposed to be shooting henchmen in that last panel...then the storytelling wasn't done right for me...because it never gave me that impression.

maybe its the format of the show - 3 times per episode you (as a collective) are negative about it. 3x 'i dont know the characters' 3x 'his art is unfinished' etc. Maybe thats the problem. It does become overwhelming negative.

no offence like, long as you are having fun your free to do whatchalike innit.

If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Steve Yeowell's art, I hate to criticise it but I tend to agree. I think his black and white style was perfected very early on with Zenith and his current "minimalising", is more like a diminishing rather than an embellishing to me. I do believe artists should experiment -McMahon has constantly done it but his efforts are more radical, beyond comparison to his older art- but I don't see much change in Yeowell's style, merely a softening. I don't believe his original style needed altering but if he needed to shake thing's up maybe it should have been a greater leap?

whereas i think its beautiful with a fluency, movement, sense of depth and ability to convey the emotions of the characters that most artists never attain.

Genrally I'd agree. But for me for every panel or scene that amazes me, there's another that just doesn't work. The rest is just good and you take that for granted :-/

And in Sinister Dexter was it not something to do with that German woman why the Boss and the Henchmen were shifted around. I know she moved forward and Kal had to use his guns target lock to take her down, but did she not pull the boss back in the first panel? Dont have the issue handy but that's how I read it if I remember rightly.

Yeah, I think you hit it on the head though when you said we're tied by the format.
If we are doing 3 progs we could possibly try and lump them all together and look at the three parts as a whole so there no repetition but not all the stories lend themselves to that.

The other option when there's something we arent really digging is to just skip it completely but that doesnt seem fair. We do TRY and find good stuff to say about the ones we dont like though, even if its just "This panel was cool" or something. That said if its a story you are loving and we keep going "meh" over it then I can see it's probably annoying.

Its Cradlegrave all over again... or Dante when we record the 1700 one  ;)

Dandontdare

I think it would be a great idea to review each story over all three progs to cut down on the repetition, and give you a bigger chunk of story story to actually talk about. This was suggested ages ago when you asked for opinions on the format, but never actually happened. Give it a go!

I'll see what Mr Reid says... its his ball after all.

Not that it'll work on the next one as 1699 is all final parts and 1700 is all new stuff.  :-\

The Enigmatic Dr X

I have a 5-6 hour return car journey on Friday (going to Oban and back).

I had hoped to listen to the last two podcasts but, alas, I have yet to get my new PC and cannot download anything. I shouldn't even be posting here now, even though it is lunch-time.

Grrr!
Lock up your spoons!
