Judge Death's Helmet
« on: 28 November, 2021, 03:06:21 PM »
Alright, stop giggling at the back there, I mean his head wear.
Is there a standard number of grills to the portcullis of Sid's skid lid?

Also, should the trim of the helmet be red like the not-so-naughty judges, or should it be grey?

I have a sticks and string project in mind, and I want to try and get the details right so it can look as accurate as a knitted item can.

Thanks,
Rackle.

I had a scan through Google images and...

The original design has Eight,
Most of the images had Nine,
The odd one had Ten.

Nine was the most consistent in the few I looked at.

Cheers

That was incredibly helpful. Thank you, both of you, for this information.

Much obliged. 😊

Ta!  For background, we have a life-size hallowe'en skeleton which is currently wearing a Judge helmet* and Rackle called them Judge Death the other day, which prompted me to ask whether she'd be up to knitting a Death helmet!

Skimming through that, is the New Scientist story from a few years back in there?  Couldn't remember what the story was called, but I didn't find "scientist" when I searched.

No, for two reasons:

1. I only know about it because you just mentioned it.
2. My data only covers publications from the House of Tharg, m'lud. (Not strictly true, or even definable, but  there you go.)

[Starts looking for a copy of that New Scientist...]

Good luck with the knitting. That modern Deadworld saga by those fellas Kek-W and Dave Kendall has some pretty out-there renditions of Death where his helmet is much more gnarly than the clean Bolland version.

Yes, Bolland's helmet is much more polished fnarr fnarr woof woof etc.

Here you go - four years ago already!  Though the last two barely count as years...

2000AD announcement

I'm guessing the following is perfectly readable if you're subscribed to New Scientist.

If you don't fancy paying a fiver to read the story, here's a synopsis.

On the all important question of trim, I don't think red (as in Judge Dredd's own fine helmet) feels right. I'd go for grey or pale blue.

No one is going to be wearing the finished article, right...

...you do know what happens to EVERYONE who dresses up as Judge Death, right..?
(At this point there have been as many 'citizen tainted by Death' stories as there have actual Judge Death stories  :D)

Or mega-citizens tainted by latent psychic actors while playing Death :)

There's the possibility of squaxx wearing it at Southern Contingent gatherings, but the skellybones in our house are the main target.
