I was trying to figure out the overlap between TMC and CCF runs. I own most of the TMC, but I would like to get some CCF. I am going to focus on the CCF runs first that have more CCF stories than TMC stories. I used these links below to sort both of these long runs out.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Dredd:_The_Mega_Collection & https://2000ad.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Judge_Dredd_stories_in_Case_Files

I have a way more comprhensive detailed list, but 2000AD Forum is a 20,000 word limit. Might be some slight accounting errors, but not much. Take it as rough, but close account. I only did one pass tallying it all up. A basic road map into which of the CCF collections have the most new stories for TMC owners, but I have no idea of the quality of those CCF stories, so. More is not always better.

I did something similar a while back when they had a discount on digital copies of the CCF. Was trying to work out which volumes offered the most new stories and/or filled in key stories that got missed from the TMC. Will see if I can find my working.

sintec

Found it - includes the Dredd books from the UC as well as the TMC.

Southstreeter

Simple - if you want it complete, get the Case Files. The exception to that for me is for recent stuff that the CCF won't get to for some years.

IndigoPrime

Complete-ish, mind. Restricted Files also needed, along with America and some other bits.

Richard

The Art of Kenny Who? and the Batman / Lobo crossovers complete the set.

AlexF

In terms of quality of story, basically everything up to and including CF11 (the one with Oz in) is GREAT (Well maybe not CCF 1). However, the print quality + the heft of the CCF books for that era mean it's not the best way to read lots of those stories, especially when giant double-page scenes get lost in the gutter. If you've worked out which specific Dredd tales you're missing, I'd recommend buying some original Progs rather than using a Case File, especially if it's only a couple of stories in that Case File. But of course they don;t sit so nicely on a shelf.

Once the CCFs get into the full-colour era with CCF 12, those problems disappear - but then you have to deal with the reality that most of the stories not picked for Mega Collection treatment are perhaps not the best of Dredd. Although there are no Case Files that are ALL bad, always some John Wagner goodness and great art to savour.

Southstreeter

The joy of the Case Files is how the long running interlinked stories play out (democracy, kraken, necropolis; the pit, DeMarco, Edgar etc) over many years (though not quite as many years as when I read them first time!) You get more of a sense of an evolving history, and even the poorer stuff is mostly readable.

I did not know about the restricted files so thanks for that. I knew about the Anderson The PSI files. A lot overap between the TPF and the TMC. I compiled this after checking the Dredd TMC v CFF overlaps.

Quality is a key factor for sure. So this is indeed helpfu;.

Thanks; I finally got round to comparing The Restricted Files vs The Mega Collection. I will pretty much get all of the Restricted Files due to the low number of overlaps (TMC vs TRF).
