Blimey! Well, let's hope they don't follow the reprints too closely...!

Quote from: Max Headroom on Today at 02:29:10 PMWas the Eagle Comics colour stuff really so bad? (I am totally unfamiliar with it).
I doubt they'll use the colour from the Eagle Comics reprints: I suspect that those pages appeared on the webshop as an example of how the new version might look.

The reason I don't think they'll use the Eagle Comics colours is that the page-ratios won't match. The Eagle Comics pages would have had huge gaps at the top and bottom if they'd just shrunk the original 2000AD pages to fit, so to combat that the vertical panel-spacing was increased...

In most cases, this didn't look too bad (and it's way, way better than the Quality Comics reprints in which they just stretched the artwork) but sometimes the decision was made to omit panels or fill in the gaps with new artwork. Look at Jim's arm in the second-last panel -- I don't think that was drawn by Carlos Ezquerra! (For the Eagle Comics reprints of Nemesis the Warlock Kevin O'Neill himself drew new panels or extended existing ones to fill in the gaps.)

That's fantastic! :) The Vex figure was very definitely one of my highlights of last year's Lawless, and Midnight is even better! Brilliant work as always, Trooper McFad!

Quote from: I, Cosh on 09 February, 2024, 03:52:07 PMPresumably the colouring on Stainless Steel Rat is from the Eagle Comics reprints (like the Nemesis one) rather than something completely new. Did Carlos colour that himself? I know he did the covers.

The Eagle comics were coloured by Janet Landau but i think they missed out a lot of the stories as there was only 6 issues containing all 3 stories

I'm fairly certain that all of the 2000AD episodes were included in the Eagle reprints. However, I doubt that the colouring from the Eagle editions will be used because the panels were reformatted to fit the different-proportioned pages (some panels were even "extended" with extra bits added), so the colouring wouldn't line up.

Quote from: Woolly on 18 July, 2023, 04:07:34 PMJudging by how they've managed to print white onto bog-roll stock, I'd say it's a more modern reproduction. Just guessing though.
I'm pretty sure that's genuine: the covers of Ano 2000 were higher quality than newsprint, so the paper was white. The tan border/background is deliberate.
Here's issue #1:

And here's another copy of issue #2:

Issue #3 has a blue background...

Quote from: Mike Carroll on 29 April, 2023, 09:29:44 AMNot quite right. Clones only have one parent, so if Fargo's 1/4 African American, and Dredd's been cloned from Fargo's cells, that makes Dredd 1/4 African American.

Which makes an assumption about Eartha Fargo's lineage — just as some people of mixed heritage can look about as white as can be, just because Eartha looks black doesn't mean there aren't other ethnicities in her own gene pool... so all we can say with confidence is that Dredd is at most 1/4 African American. :)

I assume nothing! I didn't mention Eartha at all. My observation breaks down like this:
if a has attribute x
and b is an exact copy of a
then b must also have attribute x

As Isaac Einstein himself would have put it: so there, Mr Smarty-pants!

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 28 April, 2023, 08:02:58 PMSo Dredd's possible great-grandmother, effectively a new character, turns out to be black. Which makes Fargo [...] at least 1/4 black and Dredd 1/8 black.

Not quite right. Clones only have one parent, so if Fargo's 1/4 African American, and Dredd's been cloned from Fargo's cells, that makes Dredd 1/4 African American.

In my opinion that's a good thing: Judges should be representative of all the people.

Quote from: Magnetica on 27 March, 2023, 07:44:39 PMI didn't understand what the last panel two panels on page two are showing - where is Tsellest and what has crashed into what? Nor did I understand the last panel on page 3 - where is Vex, what's that brown thing he is he's on top of? Is he outside of the ship he was on?

Page 2: Tsellest is zooming up into the atmosphere on one of the Scorchers' floating stone slabs that they sometimes use for getting around, and then crashing into the front of the stolen Scorcher ship that Vex is flying.

Page 3: The brown thing from which Vex is leaping is part of the Scorcher ship's flight deck, albeit damaged and warped from all the explosions caused by Tsellest tearing their way through the hull: we saw in episodes 11 and 12 that when Vex and his crew were flying this ship -- which was designed for beings much, much bigger than they are -- that they have to sit on top of the control stations. Picture a bunch of action figures on the bridge of the USS Enterprise trying to control the ship!

Hope that clears things up a little!

Quote from: AlexF on 27 March, 2023, 04:13:11 PMMassive apologies for piquing peoples' curiosity!
'Tsellest', as far as I am aware, is nothing more than a palindrome. I happen to rather like palindromes and find this one especially beautiful in its construction, but didn't mean to suggest there was anythihng more going on with the name...

Tsellest is indeed a palindrome, but that's not the only reason I invented it...

The first T is silent so it's pronounced "Celest" as in "Celestial" ("of the heavens" or "star-like").

The "Ts" at the start is suggestive of "Tsar" (itself an anagram of "star") which is the Russian imperial title (derived from "Caesar" meaning ruler or king: alternate spelling is "Czar").

I believe they move like snails. Now I will not be able to sleep until I know the answer and hopefully Mike will come to our rescue

The Citheronians perambulate via a complex combination of hidden wires, subtle grease, and, of course, invisible jetpacks.

Quote from: JWare on 11 February, 2023, 09:35:12 AMIf that's the case, then maybe you can at last explain who exactly you meant when you said, "I will crush you all like insects!" at the 2025 Grammys.

Ah, I see where the misunderstanding lies... You mean, when I sang my Billboard-topping Country/Despot track "I Will Crush You All Like Insects"...

I Will Crush You All Like Insects
(Lyrics by Michael Carroll, music borrowed from "The Yellow Rose of Texas")

Oh, before I rose to pow-er, you all did worship me
But then I raised the taxes and restricted liberty
You tried to overthrow me but you could not manage it
I will crush you all like insects -- you are not worth my spit

Etc.

Quote from: Magnetica on 11 February, 2023, 12:04:51 AMGreat Prog overall.

Maybe I missed it but I thought the Imperium destroyed the Obdurate home world by teleporting a white dwarf star into it -  in this week's episode it says the Scorchers  obliterated the Obdurate system. When was that revealed?

At the request of the Imperium, the Scorchers created the technology to teleport the star!

Getting insight into the favourite strips of the 2000AD Droids would be very welcome - with the chivalrous caveat that they don't vote for their own work!
Yeah, I can't see that happening!
(Besides, then we'd actually have to read the other droids' strips, instead of just pretending that we do when we meet them at a con.)
