Music / That sounds just like...
09 August, 2014, 11:30:31 AM
What songs remind you of other songs? I'm not meaning deliberate parodies of bands or artists but songs that, when you first hear it, make you think - well they certainly had a few (insert band/artist) records in their collection growing up.

For example when I hear these songs on the radio -

I think that those groups might have heard these at some point -

Any more for any more?

Help! / Thrill Mail conundrum
06 August, 2014, 07:37:49 PM
My subscription preferences are set to United Kingdom but my Thrill Mail is still North America-centric and all the pre-order links go to Amazon.com rather than Amazon.co.uk. Is this normal?

Music / Sad songs

Inspired by Leigh S

What do you peeps consider to be the saddest song?

Not a fan of the band but I think Brick by Ben Folds Five is pretty sad.

Music / First single or album bought
27 April, 2014, 03:29:27 PM
When it comes to music everybody has to start somewhere and we don't always have the most sophisticated tastes when we are younger, so I would like to know -

What was the first single or album you bought versus the first single or album you admit to buying?

For example the first 7" single I actually bought with my own pocket money at the age of 12 was:
Arnee and the Terminators - I'll Be Back (a parody song from Radio 1 DJ Steve Wright)
http://youtu.be/WsSRE5wl6ew

Whereas the first single (on cassette) I tell everybody I bought at the age of 14 is:
Guns N' Roses - Ain't It Fun (from their punk covers album The Spaghetti Incident)

Anybody else?

Music / If Zenith came back...

What musical genre would he be into? IIRC between Phase III and Phase IV he dabbled with acid-house and baggy but how would he style himself now that he would be in his, what, late forties or early fifties? I have my own ideas but I'm curious to hear the speculation of others.

I just wanted to say hello to my fellow thrill-guzzlers. I am a thirty-three year old civil servant from Scotland who read 2000AD every week from 1991-1994. I first encountered 2000AD in a dentist's waiting room in 1989 and I read it semi-regularly from prog 650. Girls, Stallone's Judge Dredd and the NME pulled me away and, I will be honest with you, it took the impending release of Dredd to bring me back. Since July of this year I have purchased volumes 1-14 of Judge Dredd The Complete Casefiles, the two Judge Anderson Psi Division volumes, The Pit, Brothers of the Blood, The Deadman, Origins and I am patiently waiting for a new edition of America. I also cried when Judge Corey shot herself. So there you have it, I don't post much so you won't see my name a lot but I will put my tuppence worth in from time to time. Again, greetings.
