Artists you wanna see back

Greedily starting 2 threads at once, it'd be nice to note a few original artists who are sorely missed (by me anyway).  David Bishop gave a quite concise answer to this one a long time ago (where, I can't remember), by saying that they bugger off to the States, where people feed them and clothe them and they are paid movie-star salaries by the page, blah blah blah Frank Quitely blah...

But in a fantasy world, could we see more from:

LOL -
Calhab Justice genius, angry, raw, vicious, beautiful.

Siku -
Was getting really interesting (even though loved, loved, loved, the look of the first pan-African Judges), then disappeared.

Kevin Cullen - like he was before he did some colour stuff.

Dean Ormston - Living in a murky world of his own fetid imaginings, down in the swamp, lowlife perfectionist.

Dave d'Antiquis -
Great art

Not sure about any of t'others, but you can now see Dean Ormston's (much improved, IMHO) work in Mike Carey's monthly comic LUCIFER (DC/Vertigo), where he shares art duties with Peter Gross (THE BOOKS OF MAGIC).

I sorely miss Dave Gibbon[s?]; his one page strip a couple of years back, scripted by Garth Ennis, was a real treat. I'd love to see McMahon working on a brand new strip - new characters, new situations. I would have included Jesus Redondo, but his Missionary Man effort was disappointing. Who drew the final Mean Arena [series 1] issues? He was a good, solid illustrator. Brendan McCarthy I miss; he never really got a chance to shine in 2000AD.

Can I include Henry Flint? Even though he hasn't really gone anywhere, every prog that does not feature his art is a prog too many ...

Love to see Trevor Hairsine back drawing Dredd, his work on The Three Amigos had a real old school flavour, and was some of the funniest and most dynamic art i'd seen in ages. His work on Cla$$war must also be commended.Wouldn't mind seeing Ron Smith make a return, also; he was one of 2000ad's most dependable Artists.

Mike White.

He was last seen in 2000AD drawing the black and white episode of 'Armoured Gideon', when the hyper-heroes are abducted by the Collector, if I recall.

Seeing new Belardinelli art would be nice, though a spade and several thousand volts may be in order.

And the Ronster of course.http://members.aol.com/roguesmiley/335-gift.jpg">

Ben Oliver

I was just looking over PJ Maybe's strips and it's a shame Oliver hasn't done anything since then as it was nice work. He's not amazing, but his style is a lot more cohesive and 'readable' than a lot of people who've been given a crack at Dredd.

Over the past 3 or 4 years there's been a handful of promising artists, and it's a shame that few have been given the ball to run with, so to speak.

As a side note, I'd rather have first rate black and white than third rate colour from established artists forced to work in a way that cripples the flair that made us appreciate them in the first place.

Jock hes just signed an Exclusive for Dc and I miss his work already!!

I had no idea that Mike White drew Armoured Gideon; I must have stopped reading 2000AD at that point. That other chap who drew the first Gideon stories - what was his name? I thought his work was naff, REALLY NAFF, crappy cross-hatching.

++I had no idea that Mike White drew Armoured Gideon; I must have stopped reading 2000AD at that point.++

It was only the one episode - a deliberately 'old skool' one, including 'Thrill Power Overload' warnings at the end of the episode, guest appearances by Bill Savage, MACH Zero, Wolfie Smith and Angel and cameos by the likes of Dan Dare, Star Lord and the giant ants from Ant Wars.

Simon Jacobs - he was better in colour, but I suspect you'd still hate it...

Artists you wanna see back......
Jeeeeesus, what a tough question.
Brian Bolland would be me first choice. Brendan Mccarthy, Trevor Hairsine- the best new artist in the last few years IMO, Greg Staples, even though most painted comic art sucks the big one and of course McMahon.

I forgot all about Trevor Hairsine; nice, chunky artwork, explosive panels and imaginative with it, classic 2000AD stuff.
