Suggestions / Rerelease Dredd
19 September, 2014, 11:14:01 AM
I think 9 out of 10 of my posts have already been suggested, so sorry if this is the case now.

As we all know Dredd found a much larger audience on DVD and since then word of mouth has turned it into a classic. Well, if that's the case then why not rerelease it in the cinema? I don't know how easy that would be, but maybe a trial run on a select few screens who are willing to try.

There are plenty of fans who would love to see it at the cinema again and with all the positive reviews to be found online surely that would be enough to temp along many more who failed to see it the first time round, you can also make up for the reduced number of 2D viewings originally available and promote it in 2D this time.

If that did happen in the UK and was successful, then maybe a rerelease in other territories might be possible.

Anyway, if that can't happen then perhaps Dredd the musical might be the way to go.

Film Discussion / There's no f$*king script

I haven't seen this mentioned here, so I thought I'd post a link to Adi Shankar's comments regarding Dredd 2

Go to the page and at the bottom is a video of his latest interview.

Like it says in the title bar, isn't it about time for another Dredd/Batman crossover? Surely the success of the previous crossovers would warrant another story.

It's been a long time since Dredd did any crossover stories, and it must be worthwhile for Rebellion (sorry Tharg) and DC comics to make this happen.

How about it guys, has this got you thinking?

News / July's New Scientist featuring Judge Mortis
24 July, 2013, 11:39:46 AM
Hi Guys, I only dip in and out of this site occasionally and I usually post threads that have already been done to death, but in case it hasn't already been mentioned, I have just finished reading this months New Scientist, dated 20th July and on page 23 the photographer Irving Penn has included an image of a Roe Deers skull, which he found as a child and he says "I wanted the skull as much for it's resemblance to Judge Mortis - an evil character in British comic 2000AD - as I did out of any biological interest"

Sorry but my scanners not working so I can't ulpoad the article but I just thought a reference to a 2000AD character in New Scientist magazine might be of interest.

Now get out and enjoy the sun.

Hi Guys, I haven't been on here for a while but I just typed in Dredd sequel May 2013 and this came up:

http://www.starburstmagazine.com/movie-news/5328-movie-news-dredd-sequel-on-the-cards

Cut and paste into your browser

I then went to the Facebook page to register my Like, which you should all do as well, every little helps.

https://www.facebook.com/MakeADreddSequel

Below are comments regarding a sequel that added to the Facebook page.

"Just thought I'd add my five pence worth. The Dredd movie was great for the fans, but if you want to create a franchise it has to appeal to a wider audience. Dredd is an amazing character, set in a fantastic world, so the bad guy or gal, has to be equally amazing. Having a run of the mill drug dealer as the main baddie was lazy. We go to see fantasy and sci-fi movies to be amazed, if I want drug dealers I can watch any number of CSI type shows on TV. If they make a sequel then all they have to do, is what they should have done from the start, and I'm talking back in 1995, bring on Judge Death and the rest of his heavy's. I heard people argue that you first needed to introduce the character of Dredd to a mainstream audience, so that they understood his world and who he is first. That's just B.S. You first need to capture the publics imagination, and Dredd needs to lead with a knockout punch. If you need to, a 60 second voice over at the begining of the film is all you really need to let people know what he's all about. You just need to take the Terminator franchise as an example. Nobody knew who he was until that first movie, but it was so great and he was a fantastic character, that a franchise grew around him and then we were introduced to his world slowly. So forget about character development and let's create an action packed epic that will leave everyone wanting more. We can then see his character and world develop through the TV series :-)"

Classifieds / Very Doggy ebayer
16 November, 2006, 08:54:55 PM
Just thought I would drop you guys a warning about a doggy ebayer.

I won 2000AD prog 1 with free gift for £97 but papypal would not accept payment and when I contacted them they would not tell me why.

I then emailed him and he actually regeistered a complaint with ebay to try and get them to make me pay and so an up-paid item dispute was opened. I emailed him and asked him to email me his number, which he did but there was never any answer, just an answer machine.

I have now checked on the listing and he has been removed from ebay. Unfortunately, other people have bought from him and left negative feedback that they never received the goods.

Steer clear and watch out for any similar scams.

See link below.

Off Topic / Am I the oldest person on here?
05 November, 2006, 11:06:09 AM
Am I the oldest person to occasionaly visit here? I already felt bad about hitting 41 in September, then I read the I'm 37 thread and felt worse. Anyway, to cheer everyone else up, I was talking to a couple of my mates the other day and the first one said, do you know what the worst thing is about reaching 70 is? I can't stop peeing, every five minutes I have to go, my second mate said well that's nothing, do you know what the worst thing about reaching 80 is? I can't shit, I've tried every kind of diet and I'm lucky if I have a poo once a week. My third mate said, well now that I've reached 90, I'm like clockwork, every single morning at 7.30am on the dot, I have a nice long wee and then don't have to go for the rest of the day, then at 8.00am on the dot, I have a nice long poo and I don't have to go for the rest of the day. We then all asked, well what's the worst thing about reaching 90? He said he doesn't get out of bed until 8.30!

I'm going back to bed, I think I can hear my carer coming. She's going to give me a bath and she has the softest hands.

Ok, my other thread entitled Rebellions biggest mistake seemed to be in favour of Dredd ageing, which I actually agree has been good for the story line and character development.

Playing Devils advocate, in comparison to the American comics, where for example, Peter Parker/Spiderman remains in his teens, they have tried all sorts of desperate measures to re-invent the character, along with all their other titles, fucking up the continuity along the way to a degree no one really knows what the hells going on.

I suppose my point in the last thread was to ask do we really want Dredd to die? Boarders posted numerous suggestions as to how he could continue but others have actually given him a shelf life of 10 - 15 years, which I think is sad.

He's a strong character and a mainstay of the comic. 2000AD is the only comic I read now and without Dredd I would probably drop it, as there are huge gaps between when my other favourite characters appear, such as Nikolai Dante.

I know Rico could step into Dredd's shoes and be called Dredd but as The Nerd From Oz points out, in our heart of hearts we would all know he was not really Dredd.

Don't you think that if, God forbid, we had a huge story line, written by Wagner and drawn by Bolland, where Dredd goes on an epic journey and dies at the end, we will be left with a bitter taste in our mouths, thinking damn, that was a mistake and then picking up our weekly progs to open the pages without Dredd.

I am actually old enough to remember the only reason they killed off Strontium Dog was to prove a point, that being, we are different from the American comics and are not scared to kill-off any of our main characters, so you never know what to expect.

That points been made, so what point would they be making by actually killing off Dredd?

Kill of the Space Girls or some other crap but hands off the law.

I know it's been discussed before but the time seems to be edging closer.

Dredds getting older each prog and in line with Rebellions policy of not wanting to keep him ever young, like Peter Parker etc, he could be dead by prog 1500.

Is this what they really want? More importantly is it what the fans really want?

Also, what are the alternatives? Are we going to see Rico take over? Or perhaps Walter?

My view is, don't fix what ain't broke. Dredd has gone from strength to strength over the years and is one of the only strips to remain consistently great.

Are we going to see Rebellion make the same mistake that was made by the creators of Strontium Dog? Only to see him revived years later.

Discuss.

Film & TV / Is it just me or........

.......... can anyone else see the similarity between Johnny Depps character in Pirates of the Carribian and Nikolai Dante.

Or is it just me being crazy.

If not, don't you think he'd make a great Nikolai Dante?

2000AD is not the only comic I read. I also like a daily dose of The Sun.

I was flicking through the Sun Motors section and on page 51, in the top right hand corner of the In Brief section it had a photograph of a car, which it says is an exclusive picture of a vehicle that will appear in the Judge Dredd movie to be released this year.

Apparently the car is on display at the Birmingham NEC.

Now is this really a new car and film, or is it a picture of a vehicle they used in the last Dredd movie? and the Sun got it wrong (that could never happen).

It looks similar but also slightly different.

Has anyone else heard any news of a new Dredd movie? The last time I heard anything was in 2004 when they were saying that two other film companies had taken over from Shoreline to make the movies.

They could have been beavering away quietly and I know if it's out of Rebellions hands they wouldn't be able to make any announcements until the filmmakers were ready, so it's possible that they are currently making a new movie.

So deal or no deal?

I haven't contributed anything to the message board for a while but the recent, so called, variant cover has really pissed me off.

The cynic in me knows this was not done with the readers in mind. There is no other reason for a variant cover other than to increase sales and as a by-product artificially inflate circulation figures.

I know you'll all say that I had a choice as to whether I bought one or two copies but they are just taking advantage of the completists amongst us, of which I will admit I am one, and yes I did purchase two copies, but I have already admitted, I am a completist, it's what we do. In effect I had no choice.

It wouldn't be so bad if they had two stunning covers and just couldn't choose one but they were both so similar and were also both (in my opinion)crap.

The American comics went down this road a long time ago and then started doing cross over stories, forcing you to purchase other titles if you wanted to finish a story. It got so confusing that I stopped reading American comics altogether, as I had no idea what was going on. This is something I thought I would never do. I thought I would be reading comics until I retired and would then have more time to re-read my whole collection. That ain't gonna happen now. I have now had to find other hobbies but to be quite frank I miss reading comics and 2000AD is the only fix I get now a days.

I just hope this is not the start of a slippery slope, where 2000AD is so desperate that they resort to these dubious tactics. Co's I will stop reading, I mean it!

At the risk of being critisised for promoting my website, I have launched one last bid attempt to promote the site by getting my girlfriend to pose for some pictures with the Discarrays, as it has been suggested that the images I have on the site are boring.

If this does not work I may have to fold it. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I've priced five at half price on ebay to promote the site, so if anybody wants to take advantage, please feel free to visit. Here's the link.

I thought that might get your attention.

Anyway, I was scouring ebay, as I do and came across a listing which read 2000AD Original belardinelli artwork prog 47, with a start price of ?40.

I think it was reasonable to believe that this was original art. When i clicked on it, it was only the comic. I personaly thought he was trying it on but thought I would politely point this out to the seller.

After I pointed it out to him, he kindly reduce the strat price to a generous ?20 (for a ?3 comic) and withdrew the word "Original" but not before we had the following exchange:

Hi there

I hope you do not mind me mentioning but pricing this comic at about ?36 more than it's actually worth, then advertising it as original art, then only mentioning it's a comic when you click on it, might mislead someone into thinking they are buying original comic art, at best. At worst, people might think you are trying to deceive your buyers.

You might want to withdraw any reference to original art, as there is none there.

pompous! just saw somebody else?s listing for same item and
copied it..I have no idea or interest in these comics just have had a
pile of them in my closet...I must say I hope the world of ebay is not
totally full of suspicious cretins with too much time on their hands

Brilliant response. That cracked me up.

I'm sure you copied that ?3 - ?4 comic from someone else and then priced it at ?40 which is about what original art costs. They're all doing it.

I was being polite mate but you are obviously, in my opinion, trying to rip some poor punter off. Ebay needs you like I need to be shagged by an elephant.

I would rather be a cretin then a crook.

I'd also rather be a hammer than a nail, yes I would... etc

You are so transparent, Doh!

if you look at listings i copied my price for the sad comic from the
other same issue number.

fuck you and fuck ebay mate I dont need the money or the aggro
from some sad lonely tosser

Sometimes I wish I never got up in the morning.

After reading your email I realise the futility of my life and so this morning, I think I will kill myself.

Congratulations!

Anyway, back to my original question, am I a sad pompous cretin with too much time on my hands?
