02 June, 2003, 07:44:52 PM
Right my laddo, I leave you alone for a while and look at all the mischief you've been up to. Board wars, genral rudery, I wouldn't be surprised to find you'ld been scrumping apples from Mr Thargs garden.
So run along and play nice, oh and get a hair cut you look like a bunch of hippies.

As a retired Ninja I decided to raise a litter of DigiPVSs however I have had a number of problems with the little Buggers.
As I try to meditate to the sound of one hand clapping they pester me "Bring back Doomlord" and "Take me to then car boot sale". Just the other night I was off on an assasination when my cover was blown by the sound of typing coming from my Pocket PVS.  Please help as the other Ninjas with their PockeWyatts are mocking me.
 PLEASE NOTE
Ninja technology is yet to reach the stage where MiniGaryWilkinsons are available as there just isnt enough power for the required level of minituarisation.

General / Shiping Out
10 February, 2003, 06:42:34 PM
Sadly I'm on the move at the moment so as of next Thursday I shall be leaving the board for a while as my computer goes into hibernation. It's been a blast  this has been the first board I've ever really used and compared to some of the ones I've been to since a haven of sanity.
Good luck to everyone, and at least my enforced absence saves Tharg from being bombarded with hastily crayoned proposals for Mach 1 v Ant Wars (Its gold I tell you, gold).

General / The Subtext Game
12 January, 2003, 11:07:55 PM
A new game for the board take a well known icon and weave in a completly absent subtext sociology student style. An example I read years ago was the Fantastic Four as Woman hating Phallus worshippers: the womans invisible, the expandable Mr Fantastics best friend is a rock hard Thing etc.
 See easy.
I'll start off. Lord of the Rings'  Gay rights subtext. Womena are almost completly absent. Bilbo took Gollums ring deep underground (he's still in the closet), in revenge Gollum will publicly have Frodos Ring. Sam, frodos companion isn't too happy about this. And they end up at the Crack of Doom representing their fear of the female.
Ah seduction of the innocent part 2.

General / Emperors New Clothes

What in science fiction/comics has always seemed terminally overated to you? My list would have to include:
1.Return of the Jedi (Awful)
2.The Cursed Earth (Did nothing for me, sorry)
3. Any pre-Morrison X-men comics (except Excaliber)
4. All non-Cinnabar Rogue Trooper
5. The "light hearted" Strontium Dog stories.

and to show I'm not in whinge mode five things which are underated:

1. The old Black amd White Buck Rodgers/Flash Gordon serials they used to repeat every summer holiday on BBC2 plus the 80s Flash Gordon Movie.
2. The 6th Doctor
3. Black Light
4. The 80s Eagle
5. Blakes 7

General / Dreddcon 4/ultimate Fighting
17 December, 2002, 07:09:58 PM
As people recover from the violent Matrix style combat of Dreddcon it's time to ensure next year doesnt become one big brawl. Chair tipper Rennie has shown that no one is safe from this blockmania style horror.
I suggest that next year we formalise this combat, using the combat arena for the sport of foxy Boxing once Dreddcons hardest is decided.

General / All we are saying, is give scojo a chance.
17 December, 2002, 05:13:11 PM
As the chat logs have more than confirmed that Fanboy is Scojo I wish to propose that under the spirit of Christmas we give him a chance. He obviously really wants to be here and if he behaves I think we should let him stay on probation. If he blows it this time I will never again speak in his favour, but I like to think we can accept him back as long as he agrees to obey the following rules:
1. No overly offensive posts (I'm thinking "Aids bringer" here.
2. No cyber stalking.
3. No multiple replies to your own posts.
Maybe I'm going soft, and obviously its Wakes decision but maybe just maybe he'll take this chance.

General / Pitchfest report
16 December, 2002, 02:04:43 AM
Enjoyed the con, although I have never died so spectacularly on my arse as I did during the Pitch fest,I particularly enjoyed the fact the mighty one had read it and disliked it once already, I'ld assumed it had fallen down the back of a radiator, doh! Luckily the brilliant Fantastic Passage and Arts Uri fest either side of my gubbins made me feel that little bit less conspicuous. Congrats to Mr Wyatt and I believe Mr Tips may have a future in stand up.
Natsan had a class little tale which was also well received.
Anyone who may think the Pitch fest is an easy way in has obviously never had the ice cold realisation before an audience that their puntastic script is pants.
 Were any other contributers boarders?

Off Topic / Un PC Rollplaying games
07 December, 2002, 04:39:33 PM
Flicking throuhg some ancient magazines the other day from those halycon days whne White Dwarf wasnt a poorly disguised  Argos catalogue and a new independent RP mag launched and folded once a year when I came accross mention of the spectacularly tasteless sounding Reichstar a game set in the future of a 1000 year Reich, the other "gem" was The Price of Freedom in which the US had been invaded by the dasrerdly Sovs. Is it me or do the mid-eighties appear to have been a really nuts period in cultural history? When Chainsaw commando was aimed at 8 year olds (good game though) and it was Ok to be a space Nazi in your free time. Any one got any other examples of tastless/militaristic /oddly violent games or comics from this period?

General / Page count/ quality ratio
03 December, 2002, 05:23:44 PM
Thinking about writers like Mike Carey , Dan Abnett and Rob Williams (although i only have Asylum to go on)I wander why it is that I much prefer the work they've done in US format comics, Lucifer, Legion and Class War to what they've done in 2000 AD (although I think Abnett is underated by the majority of boarders)whilst tooths best writer John Wagner has never really worked consistantly well in the US. Is t that hard to change formats, and does it have a big effect where they worked first?

General / Nemesis
13 November, 2002, 03:18:16 AM
Just read the a huge amount of Nemesis through my recently found Best of 2000 ADs. Just like to say that Gothic Empire is an all time classic and it's nice to see a story oozing with as much invention as the first 5 or 6 Nemesis books, right up until the 2 Torques which was a last hurrah before it plunged down hill.
I'm hoping that after his recent break Pat Mills is going to come back with the old talent restored. I probably disagree with him on 90% of everything, but when he's on form he's fantastic.

What are peoples thoughts on this? I'm in two minds so far, the art is refreshingly different and the story is moving at pace but the revelation the Church is evil was hardly a shocker, I would probably fall off my chair if we ever saw one that wasn't secretly evil in tooth, at the moment it's coming accross as a a bit of a  Nemesis variant, but there are enough good things to keep me reading.

General / Fiends! Past Imperfect!
03 November, 2002, 11:56:59 PM
Not been here for a while a few recent thoughts;

Just like to say how muchg I loved this months Durham Red story, particularly the art. We need a full colour Carlos Major Eazy/Strontium Dog crossover story now and I can die happy.
Oh and Past Imperfect was interesting this month for the suggestion that Nixon wasn't all bad. Quick comparison of George W Bush and JFK.
 1. Electoral shiftiness.
Bush - Florida
JFK and the mob.

2. War Madness

Afghanistan/ Irag

Cuba / Vietnam

Also they both appear to be controlled by their dodgy Fathers ( abd any one whos ever read Joe Kennedys views on Jews and Nazism and know of his Mob connections may find Bush snr positivly saintly in comparison).
so why is Kennedy a hero and Bush slagged as a Moron, anyone? Maybe he died at the right time?

Help! / The Raligh Vectra
21 October, 2002, 07:38:40 PM
I'm writing a text story for PVS's project and I was hoping to have some horribly blatant product placement in the manner of Computer Warrior in the old Eagle. I remember in the early 80's a "futuristic" bike called the Raleigh Vectra that was regularly advertised in Battle and Eagle. Does anyone know what the special features were? Or even better did any of you own one? I'ld be intrigued to know so I could work it into the story, I'm fairly sure it wa s apants product but I could be wrong.

Cheers

Jim

I've always been interested in how co-writing works. Does any on eknow when and why Pat Mills started working with Mr. skinner, and why the partnership has since disolved?

Help! / Pencil Monkey needed.
16 September, 2002, 02:03:14 AM
Any aspiring artists interested in getting something low key off the ground give me a shout. For an example of my writing  I've put some scripts of varying quality up here in the past, though I think I've improved on them as I tend to bang the fannish stuff out quite quickly. If anyone is interested in looking at what I'm doing when I put more effort in/ collaborating on something let me know.

I'm particularly thinking of crime/ espionage set in an  alternate Britian where Suez was a success, running from the fifties through to the seventies.
