Ah well, if you have a new Spectrum, is it worth doing an extended episode that covers the 8-bit 2000ad games? I really enjoyed listening to the history of them on the recent Thrillcast - would be great to see them in action (unless the YouTube version of the Thrillcast showed gameplay).

I'll probably not be doing anything quite like that, as those sorts of videos can be VERY time consuming. And, for the time being, I've got to think carefully about how I split my time between doing these video reviews and lettering comics. But if there's demand for 2000AD themed content, I can certainly scribble that in the ol' notebook!

As for this comment:

Btw: I bought and played SUBSURFACE CIRCULAR On the basis  of the review upthread. It was great... And what an ending!

You have NO IDEA what a shot in the arm this is to read! You're actually the first person to tell me they've bought anything off the basis of one of my reviews. And that's made all the sweeter by the fact that the Subsurface Circular review has been a source of major angst in the past. To date, it's one of my least popular, and earned a slew of early insta-dislikes from people who couldn't deal with the fact that I was suddenly uploading gaming content.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the game - it's certainly something different! And if you enjoyed that, there's an upcoming review scheduled for later in this block of videos that I think you might like...

New video is up!

In this one (which was an absolute PIG to edit together and kept getting pushed all over the place thanks to my busy rock star lifestyle of late) I look at Arc System Works' conversion fo Irem's VIGILANTE for the Sega Master System.

Last week was a pretty big week for my little video game show. Not going to say much as to why, because I'm a bit scared I'll jinx things. Suffice to say, after a LOT of hard work, things may finally be about to pay off.

For now though, I'll just share the latest video. Which is a review of BURGERTIME for the NES.

New review is up today. In this one, I look at the follow up to a game a reviewed way, way back. QUARANTINE CIRCULAR, by Mike Bithell, plays with the same format as his previous Subsurface Circular, daring to tweak a few very minor things in the process. It's an interesting beast.

New video thingy on the YouTube wotsit!

I managed to pull off a few insane technical tricks to bring some Commodore 64 content to the show. Behold... SUPER BREAD BOX!

This is a really fun version of a game you might have seen elsewhere, that ANYBODY can enjoy regardless of whether they own a C64 or not. Details are in a pinned post under the review itself on YouTube. Which you can find here: https://youtu.be/ZSda4KJcyBM

Just a quick note as well, for anyone around these parts who's been following and enjoying the videos up until now:

This video marks the midway point in the third season. I'll be taking a hiatus from the show for now as I need to work out a better strategy to keep it going.

I recently set up a Patreon page for the show in efforts to secure a little regular return for making it. Quite a bit of effort goes into making each video, and this step helps me to justify continuing to make new ones.

Sadly, YouTube as a platform seems determined to saw the legs off small ventures like mine, and I've seen evidence recently that my videos are being actively suppressed. So what I'll do for the remainder of this season is release new videos to my patrons as they're completed and stockpile them until I'm ready to put out one video a week for public view on YouTube. Then I'll be in a position to see if I'm satisfying their godawful algorithms or not.

This stuff always feels like one long, ever evolving experiment. So let's see where it goes, I guess.

I have risen from my slumber!
(With a splitting headache. But that's by the by.)

Anyhoo, hope everyone's doing okay. Got something fresh to share here. My plan was to stockpile new videos so that I could maintain a regular release schedule next year, but seeing as the UK's in lockdown and I figure folks might appreciate having something to watch... NEW VIDEO! And this one's a genuine thing of wonder. It's a look at one man's attempt to de-make the ultra gnarly DEAD SPACE for, of all things, the ZX Spectrum!

You can watch the review via this link:

Some bonus info, which might be of interest:

This game is available as a legit free download from the developer. I'll leave you to do the Googling, but it's easy enough to find.

"But I don't have a ZX Spectrum!" you may cry, "They're ancient and knackered old computers, and nobody has them anymore, right?"

Well, even if you don't have one, you can still play this. I played the game for review purposes on my swanky ZX Spectrum Next, but the footage is captured from a Raspberry Pi running an emulator. There's no difference in performance at all. So, there you go... a possible solution for anyone looking for something fun to kill a few hours with in lockdown.

Enjoy!

NEW VIDEO ALERT! WOOP! WOOP!

I recently finished the second longest review I've put together. Now that it's out of early access for Patreon backers, I guess I ought to be airing it here!

I'm always trying to search out games to cover on the show that fit the definition of being 'interesting,' and this one certainly fits that description. FINAL FIGHT CD is a super whizz-bang enhanced conversion of Capcom's coin-op of the same name for Sega's Mega CD system... with an extra twist in so much as it wasn't actually made by Capcom themselves.

I dig into this one and find that, for an apparently simple game, there's a lot to talk about.

New video is up!

This one took an age to do, because it's quite long, I had to do it around a load of other stuff, and I've also been taking medication for a stomach problem that's been knocking me out cold every five minutes. (What can I say, folks? Life's been fun lately.)

ANYWAY. Here's a look at a really interesting one. Quake 4 has only, to my knowledge, ever recieved one console port, for the Xbox 360. So I took a look at it late last year, and you can find out just how well it made the jump to Microsoft's then-new console in the link below:

New video is up, folks!

Leaning very heavily on my 'I'll review anything, me' credentials, I dial things back considerably to look at a ZX Spectrum game that seems awfully familiar. It's almost like it looks just liek somehting else, but I can't quite put my finger on what...

New video alert! WOOOP! WOOOP!
New video alert! WOOOP! WOOOP!
(Feel free to add some drum 'n' bass under that. Seriously - you'll thank me later.)

Continuing my sporadic exploration of console conversions of popular arcade games, I take a look at the NES version of ARKANOID. Basically breakout on steroids.

I remember playing a few different home computer versions of this back in the day, and being blown away by the expansion on the simple bat and ball formula. The Nintendo Entertainment System's conversion went a step further, as it released with its own dedicated controller, which SHOULD have made it the ultimate conversion, right?

Turns out the ravages of time didn't much care for that detail.

EPIC SEASON FINALE POST!

My latest block of content ends with a bang tonight, with a girthy, fulsome (some might even say 'heavyweight') review of TITANFALL 2.

Quick heads up for a thing I'll be doing tomorrow that's come about at fairly short notice.

Over on twitch, at 6:00PM BST, I'll be doing a blow-by-blow breakdown of the recently revealed gameplay footage of HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST.

Here's the obligatory promo image:

We can probably look forward to gaffes aplenty, as this'll be the first time I've ever streamed on Twitch!
