General / Did Something Happen to Absalom?
03 April, 2023, 11:58:37 AM
Hi, all.

I've just finished the last volume of Absalom; Terminal Diagnosis, and I gotta ask, respectfully, did something happen with this volume?

By that I mean, Volumes 1 and 2 were building up to something great, so many teasers about the Absalom lore was thrown in and it looked like the wider Absalom world was going to be explored in the last volume.

However, I feel like Volume 3 just.... ended. The ending came out of nowhere, and nothing from volumes 1 or 2 are explained or further elaborated upon, and in fact I'd go so far as to say a few potholes might have cropped in.

Anyone else feel like this?

General / Any News on the next Dreadnought?
13 March, 2023, 01:05:18 PM
Hi, all.

Does anyone have any inkling, or has anyone heard when/if we're getting the next volume of Dreadnought?

I gotta say, I'm really liking the pre-Dredd Judge stories. The novels are pretty fun too.

Very possible that I'm blind and I've missed the Post, or Help guide, but how do you change your profile pic?

General / Random Dredd Questions
09 March, 2023, 10:33:25 AM
Hi, all.

Some random Dredd questions. I have no idea when these will be answered in the Complete Case Files, I'm only on No10.

I think I read somewhere that Dredd gets a Rejuvenation treatment at some point which is why he's still up and about, but what about Anderson? Every time I see her she still looks like a 30-something, whether it's CCF09 or End of Days. Even Hersey ages.

Speaking of age, I can't see to work it out. How old is Dredd? He was "born" at 5yos, right? But when we meet him in 2099 how old is he, how old is he now?

The Complete Case Files, the stories are in real-time, yes? One year for us is a year for Dredd? So, how is CCF42 still 20 years in the past, in the early 2000s? How'd that happen?

Hi, all.

I'm going through the Judge Dredd Complete Case File (up to 10 now. Whoo!), what I understand is that Dredd has a completely unbroken timeline since February 1977, one of the reasons I love it, however, I'm a bit unsure on a few points.

Where do the Megazine stories come into it? Do these stories exist separate from 2000AD, or do they also slot into the Dredd weekly 2000AD timeline?

I've just learnt that there's something called the Restricted Files. What are these? If they're not in the Complete Case Files are they part of the Dredd timeline?

Additional: What the heck is the IDW-run of Dredd? I've read a few and they feel... weird.

General / Is there anymore Detective Inspector Strange?
28 February, 2023, 10:55:02 AM
Hi, all.

I recently picked up the graphic novel Brit-Cit Noir, and I really liked the DI Strange and Drake story, but then I can't find any more references to him or his team, the Endangered Species Squad.

The story was kinda left on a cliffhanger, surely that's not all there is?

Welcome to the board / New Here. Hello, All!

Hi, all.

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

I was first introduced to 2000AD in the early '90s by my slightly dodgy cousin, we all seem to have that one cousin that's older than you and tells you, or shows you things, a 9yo probably shouldn't know.

The introduction was Batman vs. Judge Dredd. Now I had no idea who Dredd was, only that he was a Future Cop and my cousin had a load of his comics and paint-your-own statues in his room.

Probably not the best introduction for an 9yo, or maybe it was.

Anyway, I grew up and kinda forgot 2000AD; none of my friends read it, and I don't think it was stocked in my local off-licence, and like most teens and early 20-somethings I was busy reading Marvel or DC, or Image if I felt edgy.

However, I never forgot Dredd, and every now and then I would pick up a graphic novel or two, but that was it.

Fast forward to mid-thirties and I decided to try Dredd again. I started with Origins and loved it, and then I started with the Complete Case Files. I'm on No. 10 now.

I very, very quickly turned into a super Judge Dredd fan for many reasons. Other than the great stories, art, politics, satire, etc., one thing I love is the continuity!!

I'm neuro-divergent and one thing I like, in any field, is a line of continuity, that's why I never really got on with Marvel or DC; We rebooted the reboot to the reboot, also the New 52 of DC comics has 7 separate comic-arhcs of Batman running independently of each other... wait what? That's why I don't get on with movies, either, I don't like the one-and-done of story telling. (Dredd 2012 doesn't count, that was great)

Reading the CCFs in order is amazing (and the fact that Dredd has been in continuous print since February '77 and is still turning out weekly stories is something that needs to be recognised more by the publishing and comic book community I think).
For example, I picked up the 2000AD Christmas edition from last year, and Dredd speaks to the Devil and the Devil brings up the Cursed Earth saga, Judge Giant, The Judge Child. I'd only just read those stories a few months ago and here I am, reading a story published 30+ years on from those events and they're still be referenced. I dunno, that just feels... personal to me.

It seems to happen whenever I pick up a story of Dredd. I picked up Brothers of the Blood and I was introduced to Rico and Dolman, and then they turn up in Chaos Day too and I was like, I know these two! Buell of SJS, well, I met him in The Pit, and he turns up in a few of the stories I've read too.

I just appreciate this continuous, unbroken line of story telling. As I say, it feels personal and like a safe space, even if Mega City-One is anything but.

I also started Absolom and they're bloody brilliant.

When it comes to comics, I only read 2000AD now. I don't see the point of picking up anything else.

Anyway, that's a lil' of me. So hi, all.
