You could try GMX (http://www.gmx.com/) for a free email address that isn't as well known as Yahoo or Hotmail.
Googlemail has a perfectly respectable reputation. I get CVs through with googlemail addys all the time.
Unless your current email address is something akin to t0ssw4nk@spunk.com, I wouldn't worry about it.
And now the eternally trawling spambots will have their time wasted ever so slightly thanks to me.
Yeah, for bland inoffensiveness I'd say Google's gmail is the way to go - if you want to be really serious use your full name as teh username. Plenty of my clients use gmail for work, and I use it for personal-but-serious matters (banks, bills etc.- I have a company-domain e-mail for actual work).
If only I still owned the gothasfuck.co.uk domain -- that would have been perfect!
