RE: the anniversary floppy - I'd left the marketing department by then, but chipped in some contributions.

All of the archive was literally lying in boxes gathering dust when I started in June 2016. I knew the anniversary was coming up and knew how great some of these images were. Only a fraction had ever seen the light of day. Those that had were usually yellowed, and low res.

Archiving had been attempted before but with such a sizeable collection of assets, it was deemed too time consuming. I only got away with it as I scanned things in on my lunch breaks for a whole year, cleaning up what I could with my (fairly limited) photoshop skills. The results made it worthwhile!

We have photos of Alan Moore signing Watchmen, Desmond Llewelyn's final public appearance (days before his death) and - of course - images from around 100 2000AD signings.

All scanned at 300dpi or better!

Hi all,

It's from the Forbidden Planet archives. I spent a whole year going through boxes of materials, then scanning in and restoring 12,000 images!

Basically all FP's signings and events. Lots of lovely 2000AD gems in there. I'm sure there's another angle of the above photo, with Ron in the foreground. Anyway... all images are available free from forbiddenplanet.com

Enjoy!

These are in stores across the country now!

Also available to download from forbiddenplanet.com

Plus a more extensive archive library (covering 1978-1989) now live on the site too. Features some real 2000AD gems!

All free to view...

How are you feeling completing the run?

Personally I'll be more than a little sad next week when I pick vol 90 up!

No worries! I think it has a healthy print-run, so should be easy enough to pick up in the stores.

It only scratches the surface of the FP archive, mind. Over 2000 events - so 16 pages could never represent everything!

(I wish it did... I spent 12 months scanning in 12,000 documents relating to them all!)

Launching at tomorrow's West End Live* is a special - free! - magazine celebrating Forbidden Planet's many, many signing events over the years.

Naturally, having had such a close relationship with Tharg since the very beginning, there's a few relevant 2000AD photos in there - including one from 1980, with Brian Bolland, Mick McMahon, John Wagner and Ron Smith in attendence!

Like I said... free! Available from this weekend.

*Available at FP stores across the country from late next week.

Return of the King is a great Dredd 101 volume, and the title story didn't stick out as much as I thought it might, it just made me want to go back and read Necropolis again, which was perhaps the idea. Top stuff.

It's already been confirmed that Dark Justice will be one of the other 2 Dredd volumes, any thoughts on the other?

Material from Case Files 1? Would make sense as a volume 1 for this series.

Was speaking to Russell T Davies at a Forbidden Planet signing yesterday. He's a fan! I gave him a comp copy of Brink: Book 1 as a parting gift.

And the forum may be able to help out. I have one small signature on the poster that I can't remember or identify.
Anyone recognise this?

Moans aside, thanks for the hero who tipped us off about signed copies and prints still being available at Forbidden Planet - I acquired both on my way home last night. It will be nice to have the signed copy in the collection, and I'll donate my subscriber copy in the hope of seeding another collection! It really is a lovely product. And for £2!

I bought a signed one online with a promise of the poster too.
Did you get a poster when you bought from FP?

Hey, I ran the signing from FP's end and asked that the London store keep the leftover (unsigned) posters by the tills. I was there last night, and they still have a fair few. If it looks like they are out at the tills just ask a member of staff if there are any left in the office. If there are, they'll whip more out. They are extremely popular mind - so apologies in advance if you ask and they're all gone!

And although the posters weren't promised with mail order purchases I did send 10 signed copies to the MO team. If you ordered the signed book online, might be worth asking the MO guys if they have any left. Not a guarentee you'll get one of course (I believe some have already been requested)!

Hey, for anybody who couldn't make Boo's signing last night, Forbidden Planet London have a very small number of issue 1 signed on their shelves (no more than a dozen) and have copies of the big launch poster - it's 60cm by 40cm - available to anybody who wants one. They're not taking anymore orders on the signed copy online, mind.

Has anyone seen the Insurrection volume in any London shops? I've called into Forbidden Planet a few times over the last few weeks and no joy.

They definitely had it as that's where I bought mine. Generally they sell out of most issues after a few days now. At a guess they're ordering less, or the demand is higher.

(Some issues do linger a wee while longer. Poor Missionary Man)

If you haven't listened to the Thrill-cast yet, there's a snippet in there about this that's tipped me over into a solid 'buy':
The Complete Nikolai Dante — nine volumes in hardback.
And released in order too, it sounds like!
