Do young children read bi-monthlies? Does anyone know why they don't want weeklies?

Is it maybe that the most viable and visible comics available to kids these days are US reprints following the traditional American monthly publication model? The once ubiquitous British weekly anthology hasn't really existed for a generation and weekly kids publications tend to be aimed at very young readers or are bought for the free gifts rather than the content.

On an unrelated note, this is the second time that both the current Brink and Hope storylines are going to be pre-empted by Regened and I'm having flashbacks to my youth when you'd have to wait three weeks between episodes of The X Files or Twin Peaks because BBC2 had taken them off to make way for snooker.

So, I've finished this and it's great. The stories stand up surprisingly well and the art is beautiful and beautifully reproduced.

My one very minor complaint is that they reprint a lot of Look-In feature articles as an appendix but not the text story from the 1984 Winter Special, but I can't say that I'm losing sleep over that!

In prog 2283 it was stated the next installment will be Malice in Plunderland and it will return in prog 2289

You get the sense that the Prog is going to enter into one of those staggering chase to the line as Prog 2300 looms and the start of the years' wonderful line-ups start to fizzle away. This week is a pretty good comic but we'll have to see what rolls in alongside Skipperty.

The next Regened is supposed to be Prog 2288 so I suspect it'll be more Future Shocks/Terror Tales for the next couple of weeks.

The pages are the wrong way round in my copy. Page 34 is the first half of part three of this particular story, while Page 36 is the first page of part two.

Pages 35 and 37 are correctly placed, so I actually have to read Page 36, then Page 35, then Page 34 - then jump back to Page 37 - to get these two episodes in the right order.

I was going to say that there was a Dan Dare TV series recently, so obviously they are doing something with the IP.

Then I realised that "recently" was actually "twenty years ago".

Yeah being cynical it seems like a good way to make what seem to be two of less popular books sell a few more copies. I think it's far more likely they needed a back up story to raise the page count and Slaughterbowl was the right length and fitted with the future sports theme.

Tbf it feels like a way to get Smith completists to buy more books. I probably won't go for it though. Revere in hardcover is a must-have. Slaughterbowl's fun but a minor work.

It doesn't feel much like a Regened story. For better or worse the new and one-off strips that have appeared in Regened issues have tended to be much brasher and high concept, pushing a "this is our cool gimmick, cool isn't it?" in our faces. Space travelling bounty hunter family accidentally restarts ancient galactic war? Cool! Mary Poppins as an amoral high-tech kleptomaniac? Cool! All the plant life on Earth has turned against the human race? Cool!

But what is it about Skip Tracer that's cool? I find it hard even to find the words to sum up a strip that seems so fundamentally generic. The only distinct detail I can remember from it is that it's set in a cube-shaped city and that's entirely irrelevant to anything we've seen unfold in the stories.

It may be a story that's straightforward and easy for kids to read, but it's doing nothing to grab their attention. And it's not doing it for adults either.

I'm wondering if the big twist won't be anything to do with what Dredd is purported to have done during the AW but more about the identity and motives of the guy whose story we've been listening to. Totally mad thought but: giving other/fake/Sov Dredd a scar makes me wonder if there's an Orlok connection somewhere.

Which is true but all we can do until then is hypothesise based on the evidence.

I once came up with a great theory about what the final episode of Alan Moore's 'Cinema Paradiso' was going to be based on the idea that he was subtly seeding clues and allusions throughout the run about one particular star and one of her most famous screen roles... and then it came out and it was nothing to do with her.

I'm kind of hoping that this clone of Dredd is more relevant to a forthcoming modern-day MC1
 storyline, and that Tharg doesn't undo one of Dredd's defining moments, i.e. nuking East-Meg 1.

My guess is that it'll be something to do with Dredd killing the other clone, which our narrator interprets as covering up MC1's dirty little secret but is actually about the clone being a Sov ringer.
