Think one thrill has really pulled away here, which is surprising as I thought it would be much closer than it appears to be but my eye scans have decieved me in the past and as such those last day votes might change things. I'll count up in the morning.

Well its not a whitewash but the result is in no doubt with a day to go. Still get those votes in so we know how strong the support for Strontium Dog is...

VOTING CLOSED

As straightforward as they come this one. Not much reflection just vote and vote for Defoe. Inspectre did get some support and certainly deserved to hold it own a little better maybe... be then I'm no fan of Defoe, but regardless of that fact

Defoe

will be firing shots of ball into Round 4

VOTING CLOSED

Well was not expexcting that. It was very close too but the mauling of prog 1 thrills in Round 3 continues as now M.A.C.H.1 falls. Its not that we're not greatful for these stories for launching the comic we love and providing a sound foundation, it just we know it gones onto bigger and better things... and it would seem one of those things is

Sancho Panzer

which will be rolling over rough terrain to get to Round 4

I've rattled on about this endlessly The Phoenix is an absolute treasure and clear evidence that weekly ongoing adventure comics, can work, enthrall kids (some kids) when balanced right with other stuff. The concern is of course its pretty much on its own and even then there seems to be increasingly finding ways to save monthly on the weekly comic and that comic is used to fuel collections and those more and more in the Dog Man style - which given the quality isn't a massive concern.

If the model was easy and universally popular there would be more one imagines. So I remain grateful it still exists.

The other concern is the boys love for it is slowly ebbing. He still reads it without fail, but its been a while since he read it the moment it lands as he used to, normally that evening though. Its then not rushed to his room to be looked at again over the weekend. He's 10 and his time might be steadly coming to an end.... so I guess I'll just have to admit I'm getting it for myself in a wee while!

As for 'No Country' I think it ran in the run up to issue 400 - but will check when I have a moment to get to the boys room and nosey to get exact issues. It was so, SO good, and I'm super excited its returning after so long and if I'm honest all but giving up on seeing it again.

You could spend hours in that thing.

The Grievous Tourney Schedule of Colin YNWA (and the Boarders' Brain Cells Left in His Wake)

Bravo!

Indeed!

Will any Round 4 ties be this easy to choose?

Its only getting harder alas!

Skizz. Book 1 is obviously the best, I don't care for book 2 at all, but book 3 has some redeeming qualities.

Even Book 2* has the redeeming quality of GLORIOUS Jim Baikie art... mind the art on Fall of ain't bad either is it!

*I actually quite like Book 2 as it goes.

This one is pretty clear cut and with a day to go there isn't much to play for, but still well worth getting your veiw heard. I'll wrap up in the morning.

Last day here and it closer than I thought it would be, still not close but getting there. Who knows what todays votes might do?

Round 3 heads towards its conclusion and things aren’t getting any easier. It's time to start thinking about how hard Round 4 is gonna be cos lets face it as we near having just 64 thrills left we know they are all (well almost all) gonna be beauties and the tough ties we see this week will be the regular head scratchers in a couple of weeks time. Arh remember how easy Round 2 was!

This is the tough tie to end the week… or is it. I love Fall of Deadworld, but even confusathon ‘Fervant and Lobe’ was able to draw votes off it last round, though the result was clear. So it goes for FoD which does divide opinion. Skizz on the other hand is The Wizard of Northampton’s finest work in 2000ad (come on, come on all you Halo Jones fan - I mean I love Halo Jones but Skizz is SOOOOOoooo good) and I enjoy the Baike stuff that followed. So while it might seem a tough tie will it actually be very one sided?

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 26th June and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need ‘um and can be bothered to follow ‘um there’s some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN

Tough tie to end the week… I mean not this one the other one today. I mean this one is a shue win for Nick Stone and co who hardly had to draw breath to see off Stalag 666 last round. I’ve still not forgiven Dash Decent for doing for Department K in Round 1’s biggest travesty, but it got an easy draw against Zombie Army last time. That luck ends here?

VOTING CLOSED

Not particularly close here, both great thrills getting plenty of praise. One thing this has reminded me to look at a bit closer as we enter these later rounds is what chance Meg thrills have against Prog thrills. Does being in the Meg just reduce your presence and thus chance for votes? I'm not sure there are many Meg thrills left? For now though

Diaboliks

Will be dark and deadly in Round 4.

VOTING CLOSED

Pretty straight forward, but not all one way. Its good to see great modern(ish) thrill wiping away nostaglia around fun but superflous thrills - even ones about the Mighty One himself away.

Ichabod Azrael

Will still not be getting it full title in Round 4.
