Any of you comic fans ever pick this up?

I managed to secure a cheap copy on ebay, I've been really enjoying flicking through my old Marvel comics recently and thought this is a pretty cool looking collection all on one disc.

Off Topic / Comic Experts! HELP?
18 July, 2004, 10:38:17 PM

I wonder if any of you old school comic fans out there can help me???

I'm after two US comics from the seventies and I'm not sure of the issue numbers...

The first is either an Action Comic or Superman comic and features the mighty man of steel tied to some kind of indian totem pole over a fire.

The second is an old Captain America and the Falcon issue and the cover on this one has a "left for dead" Falcon tied up (again!) against a rooftop chimney stack.

These are two covers I had many years ago and would love to own or even just see them again, hope some of you good folk can help me out.
I've mangaged to track down some other 70's comics I had back in the day (Daredevil/Deathlock etc) and really would like to see these again.

Cheers

General / Will you die before Dredd?
17 June, 2004, 07:40:09 AM
Strange question?... yes it is, but do you think you may bite the bullet first, if not how would you feel if Joe goes first?

I?ve read tooth for around I?d say 70/80% of it?s existence and have to say Old Joe has always been the main stay for me, the reason I keep buying it....
of course there?s other great material onboard like the Warriors, Stronty etc which I take in but much of this material has always taken second place over old rock face.

I?m 38 now and feel like I?ve grown up alongside old stoney face, I still recall reading the ?last stand? of the Cursed Earth epic thinking is this it for Dredd (well I was 11)... and then ?The Day The Law Died? kicked in.... thrill power deluxe!

Throughout my teens and college years Dredd?s exploits often inspired my artistic side, during all this time I?ve lost my dear father, some friends and have faced numerous life traumas which I?ve had deal with (as we all do/or will) and sometimes I question mortality itself.

I guess the point I?m trying to make here is that the depth of the character and weight of his epics and tales makes me feel like I know the man (scripted comic character or not) and could actually morn his death perhaps because deep down his stance (regardless of the excesses) has always one for the people (and how many of us have not wished we could take a Dredd stance in today?s society now and again!?) and after all this time he?s like one of the family.

Anyhow Joe seems to have more energy than me these days and I wonder when if I, or any of you lot will go first? I?m sorry, I know Dredd demise topic has been covered on numerous occasions, but I am fascinated with the fact that this character avoids the ?Spiderman/Superman? ageless hero comic book trappings and wonder what the future holds?

Sorry about these ramblings and if they appear a bit heavy, but at the end of the day, this is the power of a character and his world that has been so well written all this time? I simply couldn?t share these thoughts elsewhere? who would understand!?

General / Holiday Time
08 May, 2004, 11:29:18 PM

Well peoples I've not been around the board much recently due to among other things a poorly PC and the gastly routine of work but this coming Wednesday sees me off to Tenerife for a long deserved week of rest... has anyone here been there before? what's it like?

I understand some Planet of the Apes and Star Wars location work was shot near Mount Tiede!? (originals/sequels?) which is one area we're visiting.

Well just wanted to say hello to anyone who knows me and hope all is well and wonderful.

General / Cinema Horrors - your experiences...
12 March, 2004, 06:41:03 AM

My worst was going to see Jaws the Revenge... not just the movie, but I had a stomach bug at the time which I found rather apt.

One tale I heard was a couple who settled to see a movie in their local "fleapit" only to find they'd caught head lice from the seats, hmmm nice.

anyone had any un-Cinefantastique experiences?

Help! / Techy things! can YOU help?
11 March, 2004, 11:14:16 PM
1. I'm begining master pages for my upcoming website and I've been asking friends for advice about what size my artwork/pages should be, 800 x 600 pixels was suggested, does anybody here have any experience in this?

2. Recently when saving images to my PC from the web I'm offered save as "untitled" and "BMP" image options instead of the usual JPEG option, is there anyway to rectify this?

3. and my final brain teaser, I've downloaded a couple of movies and on opening them up in Window Media player I can only get the audio soundtrack, and a message appears saying "error with downloading Codec" is it possible to download a Codec driver or such in order to view these movies (and no they aren't XXX movies) :-0

Grateful thanks to anyone who can help me out here.

Cheers

Do you post here? I've just found out that you're Amanda's brother, Amanda is part of my work team (although I'm based in Liverpool) and the poor lady has to frequently listen to my rants and raves in work and my JAWS ramblings!

If you don't post here I guess I'm talking to myself!

What might yours be? I rate the final shot of the original Planet of the Apes feature as one of the finest movie endings ever, stark and startling imagery, great movie all around.

General / Gordon R / Scripts
11 February, 2004, 11:01:09 PM

Gordon and/or any other writers out there, could I just ask a question?

When you're writing tales for the comic book format, do you visualise how your dialogue and pacing will work on the final illustrated page as you write, like a kind of storyboarding?
Or do you submit the written work and liaise with the artist who will turn out the final strip?

I was simply curious after catching up with a few back Progs recently.
I produce my own cartoon strips for fun every now and again and was interested in how other people approach the media.

General / Great Toys of Yesteryear... what are yours?
10 February, 2004, 11:56:34 PM

Memories, mishaps, wishes and wants...

Share please :-)

Denys Fisher's Cyborg, Muton and Android were among my favourites, they're still gathering dust somewhere, but perhaps not for long after seeing them rocket on ebay recently.

Other happy gems include, Planet of the Apes figures, The Six Million Dollar Man, Stretch Armstrong and Monster and does anyone remember the old Aurora kits,

Damn, lost some great toys over the years :-(

Help! / PC to mp3 transfers problem
17 January, 2004, 12:26:52 AM

Hi all, perhaps one of you tech boys or girls can help me out here?

My new Creative Lab Zen mp3 Jukebox arrived today and I can't seem to transfer the mp3 tracks over to it :-(

I ran the software and then tried to transfer tracks through the organiser interface on screen in which they were sent to somewhere called a PC Media Library, I simply couldn't find an option to send the mp3s to the player itself or am I missing something really obvious in my eagerness to get it working hands?

Hope someone can help me here ?200 is a fair amount of cash :-0

Cheers
