General / Judge Fargo
23 March, 2003, 06:29:23 AM

Well after watching a BBC JAWS documentary and seeing the name Jim Fargo again I wondered if his name may well have been the inspiration for "Judge Fargo"?

My reasoning behind this was Fargo's links to a number of "Eastwood's" movies throughout the 70's (as First Assistant Director)and including actually directing the Dirty Harry thriller THE ENFORCER back in 76, could his name have been noted by Wagner as a character for his upcoming lawman tales as he drew inspiration for Dredd from Harry's antics?

Just a thought.

Prog / Hi Ex for Sin & Dex?
13 March, 2003, 04:19:26 AM
Well just reading the latest Meg which I collected today and I've finally come to the conclusion that's been festering in my head for a while now that Sinister and Dexter have run out of steam, a one page filler this issue featuring a gag about a bear (a gag I believe I heard in Secondary school), what's all that about? I used to like their tales but I'd sooner not have them around if this is what to expect,
I don't know about a bear, more like a one trick pony.

I had trouble with the (last?) 2000ad run when they were dressed in women's clothes etc and I ended up skipping to what ever was next in each Prog.

Not sure if Gordon Rennie's next Meg page will mention Sin and Dex in relation to Pulp Fiction, but "Gag Reflux" was the final straw.

Sorry to any Sin & Dex fans.

General / Cult TV (on DVD)
04 March, 2003, 03:28:17 AM
I don't really know any people here, (I've swapped emails with one or two of you in the past) so I hope this isn't an old question for the board.

What (if any) TV shows of yesteryear have you bought on DVD? or are there any you'd like to see on the format?

I've recently enjoyed (once again) Season 1 of Space 1999 (I've even found my ultra rare stun gun!) and I've also picked up all four box sets of The Professionals for between ?10 - ?15 each.

Our local market has the JOE 90 box for half price (brand new) but I got to watch the funds so I can get dirty beers in Bristol this coming May.

Any others...?

General / Earliest Original Artwork
03 March, 2003, 02:31:38 AM
Just been taking some digital images for a memorabilia project I'm working on and thought I'd capture some other items in my collection too.

I know some of you out there own original artwork, but whats the earliest page from the organ that any of you have?

I've got a Belardinelli Black Hawk from Prog 137,
a Ron Smith Dredd from Prog 367,
a Brashill/Cox Dredd from Prog 1077

but this page is my pride and joy from Prog 17.

General / Original or Reprint?
19 January, 2003, 10:17:10 AM
Well there's lots of talk of classic Battle and Action Comic stories being rerinted, but which would you prefer to own if cost wasn't an issue? pristine reprints or those original 70's issues?

Your answers, (if anyone cares to reply) may vary depending on your needs, tastes.

Personally I own many UK Issue# 1's but I'd also like to see those originals dusted down and reprinted, I'd have no problem buying them again!

I'd say with the interest generated here that's it's only a matter of time before some of those classic pages hit the Meg again, can you imagine a Hook Jaw GOLD special/Poster mag!!!!!

I've posted about this in a past life, but I'm still looking to track down a copy of the book that covered the story of ACTION Comic, if anyone knows where I can pick up a reasonable priced copy, do please let me know.

General / Dredd Movie (Stallone) tale.
11 January, 2003, 07:32:01 PM
A friend of mine just sent me this, thought I'd share it, I think it's from one of those Hollywood "kiss and tell" books.

---------
Although some say this story is an urban legend, Sly Stallone, while making the movie Judge Dredd, had sex with an extra, forgetting that he was still wearing his microphone. The whole crew supposedly heard him telling the girl, "Slap my butt."

To add to his humiliation, the cast had T-shirts made up and wore them the next day. They said, "Slap My Butt."

Only just caught up with this strip in Megazine 4.15.

What a simplistic classic, it has everything, the black humour, the nightmare vision of technology and Old Joe doing what Old Joe does best, and of course the(imho) classic writer/artist combo. (even if Tom Frame did miss a word out of one of his speech balloons!)

This is the Dredd I like to read, the magic never dies.

The recent absence of the input page got me thinking of a little topic, has there ever been an era of 2000ad when you've enjoyed the input page more than the Prog's contents? I'm sure there's been a few occasions for me, but not so bad that I can pin them down to right now, "most" of the time Dredd has carried me through.

General / Dredd's Demise (Artists please)
05 August, 2002, 05:02:56 AM
Death is not pleasant at the best of times, but Dounreay gave me an idea too, when it's Joe's big day with Resyk, WHO should illustrate the epic frames? I believe Ezquerra due to his involvement with Joe over the years, but this may not be your choice...

Who?

Just wondering... what if Joseph Dredd had an ear for music, what during the rare rest time he has do you think he'd listen to?

I'm not really sure myself, possibly dramatic classical suites, I think rock and metal is too obvious.

Any ideas for bands would be interesting and why!?
I know it's Dredd in the future, but I'm thinking good music through the years of all genres, except today's chart garbage.

General / Original Artwork
01 July, 2002, 02:00:23 AM
Thought I'd share this here, this is the image I used for my icon here, it's an original hand drawn sketch by Carlos Ezquerra, one of a number of aborted cover ideas for a Titan reprint of The Apocalypse War saga.

Just wondering do any of you good folk out there own any other original artwork or one offs? I also have Ian Gibson's original page of Dredd killing "Call Me Kenneth" (Prog 17) from the climax of the Robot Wars and a page from the "In The Year 2120" story

Cheers

Just had a clear out of a lot of magazines and came across Issue 12 of Classic 2000AD featuring this great Missionary Man strip, just wanted to say that the artwork appears so fresh and is awesome, needless to say this is one I'm keeping, I think this has to be one of my faves from the 2000ad stable over the years!

Thanks for posting those pics Wake, now I remember what my own Matchbox models looked liked before they were subjected to the peril that is "youth", funny how my Issue #1 survived all those years, but the metal toys perished!!!! :-(

I've been in a very nostalgic mood recently, I recently lost my father and found myself revisiting happy childhood memories, snapping up comics on ebay I used to own etc...
Like 2000ad the movie JAWS has always been one of my favourite memories from the 70's, to the extent that I've just had one of my cartoons aired on a US documentary about the making of the movie and I've produced a number of dance tracks about the movie (see link)

Is there anything else from the 70's which you treasure as much as the beloved organ?

Ed

Nostalgia, ain't what it used to be.

General / The old Judge Dredd movie!
30 May, 2002, 09:08:00 AM
Can anyone help me with this one? does anyone know if the US/Region 1 DVD version of Judge Dredd is longer than the UK disc, It appeared to me that there were several sequences trimmed in the UK print (most notably the Clone sequence) was this the same in the US?

I know some scenes were left out of the finished movie (Fergie etc) but I'm talking about the available UK/US DVD variations.

Thanks
