QuoteAlso bear in mind Irish and Scots Gaelic come from a commons source

The ENglish too used to speak Gaelic before the Roman, Northern European and French invasions.
By the way, sorry, satchmo, but the Durham accent sounds very like a Geordie one to me. Then again, I'm a Mick so wouldn't be too well versed anyway.  Anyway it's still hard to imagine Durham Red having an accent like that (not that there's anything wrong with it of course!)

I teach English to foreigners so I have to tone down my Irish accent a little bit (my mother's a Brit though so it was never particularly strong). But i get told by my own Spanish and Italian students how to pronounce words 'properly' sometimes, particularly words like 'bus' and 'cup' - in Ireland it's similar to the Manchester 'u' rather  than the London one; i.e. 'boos' and 'coop' not 'bas' and 'cap'.
what's a Durham accent like anyway? i can't imagine Durham Red having a strong regional accent, particularly if it's anything close to a geordie accent.

My Irish is far from perfect either, despite learning it for 12 years at school. I lived in Wales for a year, Aberystwyth for my sins, and came to the conclusion that 'boyo' belongs to the same category as 'begorra', i.e. nobody really says it.

QuoteI would be more then happy a gain a bit of weight if there some going spare.

I tried that last year, using the Bobby de Niro Raging Bull method of loads and loads of food, and ended up still skinny but with a big belly and a round face.  So i lost it again and decided that fit and skinny will have to do.

Anyway, this year I want to make more money but appreciate everything i already have, stop moaning about things, and be more honest with people.

I've wondered (and possibly asked but forgotten) before, but do any Scottish readers think that the many, many Scottish accents in 2000ad are convincing? Middenface McNulty is the prime example I suppose, but there are loads more. I think it's due to reading 2000ad since childhood that Irvine Welsh books were a doddle for me, whereas a lot of my friends had trouble with the phonetic-style writing.
in any case, Finnigan Sinister sounds to me a lot more Wild West than any part of Ireland; though as Dublin accents go Cassidy in Preacher is almost spot on.
Come to think of it, I'm guessing the Red Dragon in Zenith wouldn't make a convincing Welshman to a Welsh reader.
Happy Hogmanay, by the way, you crazy kilties (to paraphrase El Spurioso)

Books & Comics / Re: I need to know this!!!

Yes, it's a gem. Sort of a sci-fi version of From Hell. from self-castration, through being pushed through the strings of a harp, to storing a knife in a flap of skin where your genitals once were, it's the strip that's got the lot. Very sick but gripping stuff

Warlock of Firetop Mountain and Riddling Reaver were the best for pure atmosphere. never actually played them, as i suspect most people didn't - just thumbed through them keeping as many fingers within the pages as possible.
I stayed in my brother's friend's house this year and was pleased to see that he'd acquired every one of them through ebay, amazon and his old collection which I remember well.

Suggestions / Re: Why don't you hire me?

When I saw the thread title, I thought, 'Oh dear, here we go again'.  But now I've seen the art, I think yeah, they probably should hire you.  A Spanish artist on Dredd? It's a good tradition.

QuoteI wonder who will be playing Dredds love interest.

I heard it was Orlando Bloom.
Anyway, though, a new Dredd film: Wa-heyyyy! I think they'll learn from the mistakes of the past and do a good job this time.  I'm sure Danny Cannon and Sly Stallone are not proud of themselves.

Megazine / Re: Meg 279 - Chrimbo Meg

Okay, here goes:
Dredd: Not bad. The ending was like a boot in the groin though. However, i don't think Prog 2008's Christmas Dredd last year will ever be beaten.
Insurrection: Never been a fan of 'Space Judge' stories, or indeed most 2000ad space stories in general (except Halo Jones and Nemesis), but this looks good. Great dialogue, which is something i always appreciate.
Citi-def: Too early to tell. Nice to see the return of the more scary parts of the Cursed Earth like dinosaurs, but it just hasn't seemed such an epic place since the 80's. More a flat, boring wasteland, which i suppose most of it would be.
Tank Girl: Used to love it in Deadline but it's not doing much for me now. Maybe I'm just getting old. Where's all the extra bits, like Bert saying to Ernie 'Why don't you shut the fuck up with that "Hey Bert" shit'?  Love Rufus's artwork, but the story and art seem a bit lacking in the superfluous but very funny details they used to have.

Merry Christmas!

Bring back the Extreme Editions then. If it costs extra money for reprints, at least give me the choice.

Suggestions / Non-2000ad GNs with Meg?
16 December, 2008, 01:20:05 PM
Judging by this month's Megazine letters page, a few people are a little bit unhappy with paying loads extra for reprints they've read before (and to be honest, I'm not crazy about it myself).  Also, somebody enquired as to whether it was possible to buy reprints of old Crisis / Revolver stuff.

So, while i'm not sure the legal aspect of it, why not kill two birds with one stone? Have GN's reprinting stuff like the New Adventures of Hitler, New Statesmen or Rogan Josh, none of which I've read.  I know they're full of swear-words and all but, well, Preacher was in the Megazine before.
