Other Reviews / Judge Dredd - Total War
24 November, 2009, 10:41:09 AM
Haven't finished it yet, but I've been continuing my first time read of the Dredd stories (1200ish-1600) that I missed in my time away. Bloody hell! Firstly Flints art is sublime. The 3 full page spreads on the evacuation of Ezra Pound Block,
the nuclear explosion
and the aftershot were possibly some of the most chilling panels I've read in Toof. You get the big numbers reeled off in Dredd so often, X million in Necropolis, X billion in Judgement Day, none of them brought in the scale of the death toll well. These panels really did. All this comes on the back of a great storyline. The procedural work by Dredd and Roffman is great. The info that PSU have can sometimes seem overwhelming, how can anyone get away with anything in MC1 with them watching, so its nice to see them working through the evidence. The subplot with Vienna and Nimrod works well to counterpoint the enormity of what is going on against a personal life and death decision. Excellent stuff. Mr Wagner should never be allowed to retire and we should nick Mr Flints passport.

I've just had word from the Book Depository that this is shipping in the next day or so. Excellent news as I can get back to my chronological reading and finally read Casefiles 14 :)

General / Casefiles 14
09 October, 2009, 10:38:23 AM
My copy of Casefiles 14 surprised me by arriving yesterday (complete with lovely cover by Carlos) It was sent by the Book-depository (and yes it was in a jiffy bag. must be a new policy.) Isn't this not supposed to be out for a month? Pity my copy of Tales of the Dead Man didnt follow similarly early as I will have to wait now for my continuity sound reread, unless I dig out my progs, which kind of defeats the point. Why is it early though, have they changed the date? If not should I sell it for a vastly inflated rate to some poor squax who cant wait. :) (and no I wouldn't really)

Prog / Prog 1656: Morked For Death
30 September, 2009, 01:19:25 PM

Nice Alpha cover. Isn't death ray part of the same publishing group as Toof ? Bit lame having a quote on the cover saying how cool 2000ad is if it is.

I'm quite overcome with your concern for my safety (that or your desire to abuse the marquee tag). So in thanks for your concern, and to remove the minor irritation of the alarm beeping I changed the battery .. oh and here's the proof.
There we go ya bastiches  ;)

I'm impressed by the number of people who can name the exact prog no. they started on. I can understand people who started on a century or a '50 but 1191? Or is it just me who isn't sure? Do I lose points? Without the progs to hand I thinkit was around 910ish. Definitely early 900's but thats as specific as I can get.
Now I can't see anything wrong with not being analy retented enough to remember your first prog but I reckon most people on here could name their first time.
Can you remember your first prog?
Do you know the Prog number or do you need to check the cover on Barney?
Mine was 679.. I did have to check with Barney though.

Prog / Prog 1651: ????

Can I assume by the lack of a new prog thread that I wasn't the only one not to recieve his paper envelope of goodness today? Rushed downstairs this morning on the sound of heavy paper hitting the mat and it was only the wifes 'good homes' magazine  >:( Fortunately I had a casefiles by the bed for emergancies.

Books & Comics / Classic Dan Dare
03 August, 2009, 09:12:58 AM
I've been eyeing up the smart collection of Classic Dan Dare books and was wondering if they still stand up? I enjoyed the Ennis Dare and the Eagle relaunch Dare (not the 2000ad Dare I'm afraid.) Any fans of classic Dare ? Worth a punt ?

Prog / Prog 1626: Hunting Dogs
07 March, 2009, 10:46:41 AM
Cover: this is the first prog since I started re-reading at the start of the year, that I've thought 'hell yeah! thats 2000ad' Great stuff.

Dredd: I kinda was expecting a bit more than
they were all dead when we got here
. Nice to see Dredds conviction to the law and duty
can even overcome narcotic alien influence.
What a guy.

86ers: Even with the heafty recap last week it still takes a lot to get into. Feels a bit like a story forced into Rogues world rather than one comfortably set in it. Maybe thats my lack of familiarity with earlier volumes.

Marauder: The artwork is still great, but the story has started to loose interest with me. Looking forward to a quick resolution on this one.

Lowlife: ok so this is a strip again I've come in on with no previous exposure. I could see the love other posters had for it but the first ep didn't do it for me. Now 3 parts in Frank is endeering himself to me and I can see why it's popular :) Artwork is nothing short of Excellent too. Well done D'Israeli droid

Dogs: The showdown begins, a lot of action, a fair bit of arterial spray and a disreguard for humes life. Classic SD.

Letters: someone said mimsy ..hehe. Good on Tharg for actually almost answering some questions there.

Books & Comics / Anthology Comics
05 March, 2009, 11:15:20 AM
I was digging around my parents loft the other day and came across various childhood comics. I got Battle for years, Eagle for a couple also on occasion things like Victor and even occasionally Tiger. Is 2000ad really the last British anthology comic going (other than the funnies like the Beano) Are they just not popular enough any more or do they have to be attached to a known media brand to stand a chance ?

General / New Lawmaster
06 February, 2009, 02:42:03 PM
Ok, so I'm catching up with about 8 years of missed comics so apologies as this has doubtlessly been covered. I was reading Meg 272 (not sure I've seen Boo Cooks' work before .. its great) and noticed in 2 separate strips the lawmaster had drastically changed from the big box on wheels to a more sleek thing that looks more akin to something out of Akira. Was their a redesign at some point or were the art droids just dicking about with new designs.

Hiya, I've made a list of the back ish's that are cluttering up my house. I'm sure everyone has them all already but it can't hurt to try, if it helps to fill gaps, great. Prices should be reasonable. More info can be found at...

Welcome to the board / and it's hello from me
29 January, 2009, 03:12:24 PM
Hi there.
Just got back into 2000ad after a 8-9 year hiatus, and it's good to be back. Started reading around prog 500 and gave up in the early 1100s when I moved house and the local paper shop messed up my order. I'll try and fill in the gaps in my collection, but what have I missed in the world of Dredd? The last major storyline I remember reading was The Pit. What progs since do I have to read to catch up (other than all of them). Also I've been re-reading early Dredd thanks to the new edition Case Files. Will they be covering Megazine content when it gets that far do we know or is it just week by week prog reprints.
