To be honest I kinda agree but I'm going to try it and see how it goes. There are a number of things I'm uneasy about but lifes all about change and new experience so lets see how it goes. If it doesn't settle with me what's the worst that can happen? Another big re-sort WAYHEY!

Bold decision Colin. By the way, I think I'd like to marry you.

If you are prepared to take the family more so I get more than two hours solid nerding time a week I might take you up on that offer.

They will have new purpose soon as you'll see... at some point.

As Recrewt suggested I needed to take it back to my reading habits and my reading list (its a spreadsheet by jeepers its the only way I can keep track of it!) is made entirely of runs.

Great thread + namecheck = Happy Days.  :D

Looking impressive there and you have managed to sort through a lot in the little time you had.  Will be interesting to see how you get on with the new filing method.

This thread is disgusting. It is the work of a depraved and juvenile mind. You will all go blind.

My opinion is not to be trusted: I think Last Action Hero is AWESOME. And What Women Want.

Well I for one have already been reliably informed by a bearded wizard genius that I'm emotionally sub-normal so there's no surprise there at all.

Anyway when I left you last I promised a little more of the results of Saturday nights wild antics. Yes while all the young beautiful people of this world, and indeed the majority of the balding, middle-aged lumps that inhabit this board are out having fun with booze and banter this particular balding middle-aged lump rocks it hard with his comics. Another little bit I finished, at least in this first draft was my Kirby tribute shelf.

Yes all the greatest comic writer's the world has ever know - he needed neither beard, nor wizardry to achieve such goals and I bet he wouldn't have thought I was emotionally sub-normal - post 1969 stuff (well all I own anyway) in one glorious shelf. If ever there was a place outside of Tharg's Empire to course Thrill-power overload this be that place. GLORIOUS!

Finally for this brief mid-week post one of the unsung heroes of our endeavours. May I introduce you to the mighty, the wonderful De-Hy-Droid

Watch him suck that moisture out the air while he spins with glee on his chair.

All very impressive, but for grud's sake flip that middle shelf.  That's the thing about you librarians, can't see the shelves for the spines.

Wash your filthy mouth out! Dirty old man looking at young spines bend over like that!

But seriously, those DC showcase spines would look lovely together. Though I should wait until you've finished before casting judgement.

Arh yes the mighty buckle of Kirby. Alas flipping the shelf won't cut it as the fine folk of Ikea created these shelves so well they have little notches in the underside of the shelves for the supports to sit in. The good news however is I have some spare shelves that I will be calling into action it some point soon that I think still stand proud.

Yeah I know this type of thing is only going to wind people up BUT I can't put the spines together, I can't. The books are grouped with companion issues. So for example after Kirby's New Gods I have the Staton (was it?) issues that carried on the series, the Mark Evanier series and Will Simonson's wonderful proper continuation Orion. I know some people would laugh a hollow laugh at these priorities but its the way I roll.

Sorry.

One word: chisel.

But if the shelves are made of chipboard like most flat-pack furniture, a chisel might not be the best thing to use on it?

More importantly as I'm a cack handed twat its probably not a good idea!

Nearly all my Ikea crap has been subject to saw, drill and chisel (fitting it into narrower spaces, reinforcing, adding additional low shelves so my paperbacks aren't layered horizontally on top of a row of uprights etc.), and it usually survives okay, or at least isn't substantially crapper than when I started.

I think Colin cares more about his comics than the shelves themselves, as evidenced by the contrast between the shiny dehumidifier and his unwillingness to cut tiny notches out of particleboard*.  It's a point of view.  I suppose.

That is a very lovely wodge of Kirby, mind.

*This only gives the briefest of relief anyway. The shelf will be back in banana land within the month.

Recrewt

Hmmm, thrillpower aside, how come that Kirby shelf does sag so much more than the others?  Is it just that shelf is a bit knackered and you need a new one?
