Prog / Re: Prog 2350 - 2000ad Battle Action*

Quote from: JudgeJudi on 20 September, 2023, 04:24:58 PMThis didn't work for me - I vaguely remember battle action and some of the strips but not all so it was all a bit random to me.
I must say that I agree with the above and that I didn't like it too much. Maybe it's just me, as it seems to have gone down well with most on the forum.

This is now available to pre-order for early next year - a must buy for me. Looking at the contents, I just wanted to ask if anyone knew where the two stories - 'The Kroll Affair' and 'The Kurtis Affair' first appeared; as I couldn't find them on Barney. Maybe they are listed under a different name?

Other Reviews / Re: Dredd: The Complete Case Files

A little confusion over what will be in Dredd Case Files 43 (due to ship in January 2024): the blurb says that it will feature stories from Progs 1485 to 1504 and Megs 245-257 but it also says it will include the 'Origins' storyline which runs from Prog 1505 for 23 episodes. Will 'Origins' make the final cut or not? What is also not clear is whether the story 'Cadet' (Megs 250-252) will be the final offering from the Megazine in this volume?

Something slightly amiss in what we are being told to expect!

Quote from: rs_jr on 07 August, 2023, 04:01:00 AMI really hope Dante and Slaine get the same treatment nemesis definitive edition is getting
I was curious to see how that would stack up. What surprised me is how compact Nemesis is, coming in at about 800 pages (which splits neatly across five books). Sláine is sprawling: close to 2500 pages. So that'd be a dozen volumes of this size (and I do wonder if there would be a drop of in sales after Horned God).

Dante surprised me, though – I knew it was hefty, but I didn't realise its page count rivalled Sláine's – from what I can tell, it's around 1800. So that'd make for nine deluxe volumes.

I'd love to see it, but to be honest I'm happy enough with the Hachette volumes for HC 2000 AD. And I'd be concerned about the series just stopping, given that we'd get, what, maybe a book a year? Nine years seems a punt, to say the least, even for one of my favourites.
I'm still hopeful that they continue/expand the "Search & Destroy" Volumes (especially the web shop exclusives - nice)

I think they will continue with the Strontium Dog volumes although I wish that there could be more than just one a year. I would also really like to see Slaine given the deluxe Nemesis treatment with improved repro for the earlier stories (although I take on board Indigo Prime's concern about the length of time it could take to finish). In my humble opinion, deluxe hardcover books for the most iconic stories is the way to go.

I would personally be disappointed if these five books did not feature everything that was in the 'Heresies' volumes; only with better repro, colour and presentation.

Announcements / Re: 2000 AD - The Ultimate Collection

I'm still hoping against hope for a second volume of 'The Order' which would complete the story. It would feature the following:

Inbetween Days - Prog 2182
Land of the Free - Progs 2184-2195
Fantastic Voyage - Progs 2262-2272
Heart of Darkness - Progs 2317-2329

This would appear to be enough material for a book and the story and artwork certainly merit its inclusion.

The measurements for this tome are 355mm by 270mm. Is this the exact same as for the Apex Edition books?
#68
So maybe not much smaller than Apex Editions after all.
#69
Will these books be the size of the Apex Editions, or slightly smaller?

Sounds absolutely grand!! I just wish more 2000ad stories would be given this special treatment. There are so many books that totally deserve it.

More big books like this needed! I'd certainly buy 'em.

Thanks, broodblik. I guess that makes a volume two of 'Fiends' both viable and desirable.

Quote from: Max Headroom on 20 July, 2023, 07:38:19 PMIt looks from the contents that the upcoming 'Fiends of the Eastern Front' volume will only feature four stories compared with the Hachette Ultimate Collection version's five. The story 'Fiends of the Western Front' (Progs 2111-2115) is not listed as appearing. This is disappointing, as I would have at the very least expected it to match the Hachette book, if not offer more. Can anyone confirm that it will definitely be missing the aforementioned story?

I note the cover for the forthcoming Fiends collection now states VOLUME ONE on the front, suggesting there could be a second volume if enough further tales accumulate...

I sincerely hope there will be a second volume including the omitted story and further tales. Just out of interest, can anyone remember which stories come after 'Fiends of the Western Front' as Barney has not been updated this far (?)

I must say that I disagree with Link Prime and do prefer the big, bulky volumes which contain everything in one edition. I would personally call for more of them and I don't mind paying a higher price for these complete books. What do others think?
