From now on I am Darth Marbles, the most feared & vile henchman of the God-Emperor Troutman.
And I have a cool uniform.

All Hail King Troutman !!

Consider this my application to be your Head of Security, Torture and Assorted Vileness etc. I will insist on wearing a Black Leather uniform (including cape) etc and will require a minimum allowance of Stormtroopers.

I trust Your Highness has read the 'Evil Overlord To Do List' per the attached link ???

Sample quote from 'the Filth' :-

"When do I wake up and smear my padded cell with my own faeces??"

Since I'm being off-topic (again) I thought I'd be OT on 4 things at once (plus its a reeeaaal slow Friday afternoon).

(a) Just got 'The Filth' #2 - only read 1st 5 pages so far but is really good - v. funny.
(b) Anyone actually seen 'Minority Report' yet ? I'm off 2 c it Sat night I think unless I hear its total jank.
(c) Anyone know when the new Star Trek series starts on C4 cos the teasers they keep showing are winding me up.
(d) Anyone else noticed Adele from Big Brother looks like the Predator ??

General / Blakee Pentax !
05 July, 2002, 03:28:09 PM
I'm a bit bemused by Alan Grant saying (in David Bishop's latest Megazine review of 2k's history) that the phrase 'Blakee Pentax' is meaningless.
It is shouted at Sam Slade after he knocks over a Japanese tourist and breaks his camera. Pentax is a make of camera.
The Japs are obviously shouting "[You] break camera" in a bad Jap accent (not pronouncing the R's).

Yeh I've got my small but growing collection of 2k's (only came back into the fold at 1201 I'm ashamed to say) in 'Muji' transparent plastic shelf tidiers as well. They are really nice looking and sturdy but the sods stopped making them the moment thay became my thrill containment vessel of choice. Bastardos. (I've also sellotaped some pics of Dredd on the front from promo cards etc).
But I was thinking longer term I'm not sure I can give up the shelf space to back progs as the collection grows and will have to box 'em.

OK I've refined my idea.
Apart from safe storage, the main thing a box must do is allow easy retrieval of the correct prog at a moments notice.
So Rebellion could make :-
(a) Dividers (with appropriate art) covering say every 25 progs - they could have prog info on them to facilitate finding that story you are looking for. Would fit into most peoples collections.
(b) Prog Info stickers (as with the dividers) for again say 25 Progs. These can be slapped on the side of whatever Thril Containment Vessel you are currently using and would again aid quick retrieval, as well as looking good if the ywere done well.
Just a thought.

Gotta be another marketing opportunity here for Rebellion.
Say they were to flog 'Collectorline' type 100 prog boxes, with the requisite backing boards & bags. They could customise the boxes by making them 'Prog specific' ie. Progs 1200-1300. They could then have say 4 25 issue dividers in each box listing the major story arc's in those 25 progs etc. Add a few bits of 2k/JD art to the outside of the boxes and its a fanboys wet dream !
Ludicrously expensive of course.

I never subscribed to Coolbeans but a friend who did for a while reckoned all the ML stuff was just reprints anyway !?
They had some good creators on board so you'd think that at least some of the stuff would be worth showing to a wider audience.

Blimey just reading the synopsis tells me how muxh I'd forgotte nabout the story !
What I do recall without having had a chance to go back to the book yet is what a great style of writing IMB has, certainly in the earlier books.
The trick lies in what he leaves out I think rather than what he puts in - he forces you to join the dots in the story rather than spelling it all out. He gives a single , highly personalised,  perspective without an objective overview. James Ellroy does a similar thing very well in his crime novels. So you end up as DXB says not sure about what the strange lights are because you only see it through the tainted prism of one of the protaganist.
Er, or something.

Glad you asked. Its all about stress management you see.
At the advanced level you achieve a similar level of nudity, but then just thrash around bellowing like a bull elephant seal triumphantly mounting its mate.

Well it works for me. Wife doesn't like it.

Ok ok I hear ye. I'll try and stay on_topic as much has possible and not mention the following unless severly provoked :
(a) 'Battle'
(b) My personal relaxation technique invloving stripping naked and jumping around the room, whooping like an enraged baboon.

Too true. Blatant example of Insider Dealing if you ask me.
I think the result of the competition should be set aside, Wake stripped of his crown and the race for thread 3000 declared well and truly on !

Bah, I can't believe that sly old fox Wake won the 2000th thread competition with a lame-o 'Dredd Action figure' post.
