Post by: Satanist on 31 March, 2015, 02:36:52 PM
Alright folks theres been few announcements and tickets go on sale this week...maybe.

2000AD are gonna be there and that better include Tharg in full jumpsuit.

I'll probs do my usual and go full nerd on the Saturday and then spend time with wife/kids on Sunday.

Any of the usual mob going? Any noobs wanna brave the pub afterwards?

I'm hoping to be going this year. Last year I had some immense trouble with my ticket not arriving in the post and having to get a replacement. Hopefully, the experience will be a little less stressful this year. :D

I should make it- just need to buy tickets, book a megabus and some cheap-ersed room with minimal  facilities to kip in. I think Mrs Deever is being a homebody this time aroond so I won't have a massive bag full of useless shite to haul about, which is great.

erm... aye , well... see now, I never meant it like that, honest (still funny though).

My better half is waaaay better than me, I but bask in her radiance. Tall, but not 'massive', and definitely not useless- it was her bank card that paid for it all!
She does, however, possess the Achilles heel of over-packing with 'just in case' items.

Renfrew street running along parallel and just behind the venue has a few B&B's.
The ones I've been in are pretty minimal, but clean which is fine when you're not actually planning on being there very much.
Not as cheap this year as I was last, but that could be a reflection of my procrastination as much as anything else.

Post by: Ghost MacRoth on 01 June, 2015, 05:07:29 PM
Most likely.  If they all get printed at once, it's a fair bet they'll save some cash, so I'd expect they'll wait till the last moment before going to press.

From previous experience it'll be about 2 weeks before just to ensure a squeaky bum for all.

Oh and a heads up that Cameron Stewart is at FP Glasgow this Thursday for anyone who likes queuing in the rain.

Your tickets to Glasgow Comic Con 2015 will be shipped out from the 1st of June."

Fellow Judges, I am in need of some advice for the Glasgow Comic con.....

This will be my first visit to a comic convention. I do have a judges outfit to wear but need to know is there facilities there you can change into costume at all.  ALSO I would like to have a few items signed by various members of the 2000AD panel.  I would like to attend both days.  Can you buy tickets at the door ??

Which day would be best for either ...comments please !!!!

I live only 20 miles south of Glasgow and will travel by train. ( or lawmaster if I can find one)

I don't know for definite regarding changing areas but last year your colleague Judge Russell went back to his hotel to change - whether through choice or necessity I don't recall. Just come up on the train in costume - spread the word and scare some fare dodgers.

As for tickets I'd probably book to be sure - it has sold out in the past, and you can't guarantee the Pete Wells 'free entry' door will be unattended again.

All/some of your GCC questions (probably) answered.

Tickets do seem to be still available at the door.  But I'd check with the organisers or do the sensible thing and buy them in advance, before I travelled across central Scotland dressed as a comic book character.

I've got my tickets booked . Looking forward. To my first ever comic con.
It's deciding what to bring to get signed by the 2000AD bots that's worrying me now!

To be honest, I'm in this for the drinking.

That said, am I right in thinking there's a 2000ad stand of some kind?

Who'll be there? More important, will there be goodies?

As far as I know Colin MacNeil is a guest at the 2000ad table and there are a few other 2000ad droids in attendance with their own tables for signings etc. Schedules and guest locations on attached link.

The programme is quite varied (as it should be) for my limited tastes so I can see me taking in a couple of the talks - only 30 minutes for the Al Ewing one ! - before repairing to the bar. I will of course scour the dealer rooms and hopefully pick up some of the 2000ad Con exclusives.

Mine's a pint Dr X!

No, not of cardiac drugs!

Actually starting to get quite hyped for this now.

Is there a car park near by to the event at all?

There is multi-story one behind the Kings theatre on Bath street (one down from Sauchiehall st) which is quite near. Think its quite pricey though.

My gun holster arrived today but it's not big enough to hold my lawgiver MK 2 from planet replicas!!
Can anyone suggest a last minute replacement for a lawgiver???  Would any of the small nerf guns do?

I have a NERF gun that my little brother custom made into a lwgiver for my birthday. I can't recall what it was. But I will bring it along and, if it fits your holster, I'm happy to let you borrow it for the weekend.  It fires bullets and everything.

He has a Facebook page called MONKEYTRON COLLECTIVE where he shows the custom figures and nerf guns he does - it will probably be somewhere in the photos from around August 2014.

It's not round the corner from the CCA; it is the CCA.  The Saramago Bar, at the venue's side entrance.

The 2000AD droids' meal out is happening at a secret location that night, but I dare say some of us might make it along to the Saramago or Sauchiehall St Wetherspoons afterward.

Glasgow Drink N Draw ‏@glasgowdraw
So this friday is our special @glasgowcomiccon Drink N Draw at the Saramago bar in the CCA (side entrance). Come join us from 7pm onwards
.

Right then, regardless if nobody else can make it, , I will be along for that from 7 til about 930pm.  And I will prolly be in the Saramago Cafe Bar part of CCA from about 6 having me tea.

I am spectacularly chuffed that this whole thing is taking place at aVegan venue. It's not often I don't have to watch (I.e moan about) what I get to eat and drink.

Gather round small children and hear tales of magic and moderate interest.

I arrived at Glasgow Comic Con somewhat late due to an Orange walk bisecting the city.

The atmosphere was bustling and I soon encountered Tiplodocus with his well scribbled book of sketches. I also saw Satanist and Dog Deever, who was a beacon for all with his luminous Mohawk.

My first talk was with Al Ewing where the panel talked about superheroes. This was OK but there were not too many nuggets of interest with the nadir being Al being asked "Is Judge Dredd a superhero?". Yawn.

I then bought 'Dept. of Monstology' from Gordon Rennie who was kind enough to recognise me as "the letters guy".

Next up was the John Higgins retrospective which was well handled by Stace and Iz and indeed me who was entrusted with the '10 minutes to go' alert. John gave a few interesting nuggets including his next project which is secret until next week.

The girls sported the lovely Con t-shirts which were a riff on the Jack Daniels label.

After this talk I went to the 2000ad table and bought a con exclusive baseball cap and had a nice chat with Mr Molcher along with The Enigmatic Dr X. We learned that Molch-R is rubbish at chess but Tharg personally signs all the letters that he sends to the writers of printed letters.

We then enjoyed some time in the Glasgow sun with Fungus and Lindsay joining the party along with cover droid extraordinaire Alex Roland - as well as Ganjaman.

After a pint or five some of us went to the Sean Phillips chat which was most entertaining.

This saw an end to the day's entertainments and we repaired to the Wotherspoons where a feast of beer and chips was had.

HHHAAAAWWWWT!!!

Damn that was tiring! The humidity was terrible when in full judge leathers, but damn it was worth it!

Met many top folk, and am now gutted to realise Dog Deever was the mohawk guy I never got round to having a chat with!  Good to meet Tiplodocus, and Fungus (who I had a long chat with regarding getting him in some fighting sports!) and the ever awsome Judge Russell!

Bought Colin MacNeil a drink...okay, it ws only a coke, but hey....and a pint for the incredibly lovely Alex Ronald, so was happy to then sit and talk shit with them for a bit.

The event itself was good, but they really should have turned off the goddam heating!  Will be back again tomorrow as a civvy, so I can actually have a bit of geeky enjoyment without having to pose for pics every five minutes!

Too tired and a tad pished to recall more the now....but I'm sure it'll all come back to me in time!

I remember one I forgot...Al Ewing.  What an incredibly nice fella.  Had a wee chat with him, and was really impressed with his thinking regarding 'the cop', which was basically tying up his loose ends before he goes to work at Marvel.  Was glad to hear one of his contract stipulations was that he can write Dredd whenever he likes, as long as he can find the time.  I love that he will actively SEEK that time, as he really wants to write more Dredd, but of course it's work......and you have to go with your best opportunities available.  Just gotta throw massive respect his way for the way he's going at it! ;)

Did anyone loose anything yesterday at the con?
I found a blue plastic bag, and a poundland plastic bag full of expensive goodies.
It was at the side entrance steps to the CCA.

I am keeping it safe, as I don't trust anyone enough to hand it in.
There was an IDW Dredd comic amongst it, so I thought the person may be on this forum.

What a braw con   :)

Caught up with loads of forumites and had a great weekend (including a silly late one on Saturday). Too many top blokes and blokesses to prosaically list. Cheers especially to the lovely Lady Festina and the battle-worn MacRoth for listening to my babble!

Comics-wise, managed to nab 4 sketches and settled in for 7 of the panels/talks. And this year's crush is the epically enthusiastic and talented Karrie Fransman (http://www.karriefransman.com/). If you missed her talk you missed an absolute treat.

I'll just post my Tharg sketch here and shut up now. How good is Tom Foster ?!

A very enjoyable weekend and that was purely on meeting up with friends in the bar. The convention was pretty good too :)

Always great spending time with Dog Deever, Satanist, Dode C, Iz and Stacey, I wish it happened more than once a year.

Ghost MacRoth though, so many uncanny connections between who we've worked with, where we grew up, I'd be surprised if we haven't crossed paths, or been in a fight (It's Milton after all) at some point in the past 40 odd years.

Suitably recovered....almost!

So, that was fun.  As I mentioned before, met many boarders from here, and some artists and creators, all who seemed genuinely nice folk.  Saw some great home built costumes, and bought a wee bit of merchandise to remind me of the event.  But most notable in the highlights as I recall them, was listening to Alan Grant after seeing 'Judge Minty' for the first time!  Glad to report he fookin' LOVED IT.  My question was going to be 'what did you think of that compared to the Hollywood versions?', but his first comment of 'That was far and away better than either of the Hollywood versions' kinda killed that!  So Steve Green and the team, you got a grand review from the big man, who felt you got the essence of both city and judiciary absolutely bang on, and he is now looking forward to seeing the Stronty film.

Got a nice sketch from Jon Hayward too....

Ghost MacRoth though, so many uncanny connections between who we've worked with, where we grew up, I'd be surprised if we haven't crossed paths, or been in a fight (It's Milton after all) at some point in the past 40 odd years.

As soon as you said 'Colston' School.....all I could hear was Madness, 'Baggy Trousers', as it took me right back to the 80's 'Gone to fight with next doors school, every term that is the rule!', lol, no wonder we got along so well from the off! ;)

My gran lived in Milton.

It's where all the top folk hail from. ;)

I went to the con at the weekend - first time for me and never though to check the Forum's to see who else was going.

doh!!!

Good to see so many folk there and great to meet some of the creators. Took the wife down and left her in Edinburgh on the Saturday, while I managed to play in my sandbox for a while. Didn't meet anyone for a beer as I was driving practically the whole weekend, but if I'm free next year then that will definitely be on the cards.

Very impressed with Judge Burns costume- there were some admiring glances at Weatherspoons, Saturday Lunchtime when his posse and he arrived for refreshment.

A good chat with John Higgins too, he exclusively revealed some more on his upcoming project at the artists panel discussion on Sunday.

Great weekend and hope to top it next year

Batteries successfully recharged.

Great weekend- I wish I wasn't so far north and could do this more often, always a good craic to be had. No sketches, sigs and precious few comics due to budgetary constraints (though I did get a copy of Cross from Conor and Lizzie), but for me the social aspect of these things is always the best part anyway.
Great to meet up with everyone- old friends and new, creators and fans, forumites and non-forumites alike. Apologies for occasional lapses out of my 'posh voice' and becoming temporarily unintelligible, I'll try harder next time!

Especially good to see Buttonman in good form and looking well after recent illness too. Glasses (and plastic bottles) were also raised for Proudhuff- you were missed, min; I hope you're doing okay.

I'm currently in negotiations for Capital Con/TECAF in October, though the Monday after is oor wedding anniversary, so it's a tricky one.

Once again had a great time catchin up with folk and meeting new ones but not not enough beer due to being a complete lightweight.

Me n the family got loads of stuff & loads of sketches like these few...

Was gonna get Joker but then saw a postcard he'd done of Death.Top man Higgins and the kids had a laugh as well...
