Enjoyed the 'ending' of this Dredd tale. Looking forward to where it goes in the future (though to be honest, when it foes return to these threads I'll have forgotten what they're all about coz I'm a bad at remembling).

Thistlebone is always a creepy highlight.

Everything else confused me...

Never know what's going on in Indigo Prime. Deadworld flits between so many threads I lose track and Full Tilt Boogie had too much
AAAAHHHHH SHAAAAA AHHHHHH SHAAAAA for me to care, which is a shame because I've like previous stories. I think it works best with the whole crew.

Now this Dredd story is done, I'm not particularly thrilled about the current thrills.

On the third page of Dredd, what "Drokking thing came alive!" that is "supposed to be inactive". To me it looks like the filing box in the bottom right corner of the panel, but I realise that isn't the case.  Is it the something to be with the cube of shards in the background? And is that a thing I've forgotten is a thing?

Very much enjoyed the prog, I'm just confused by this one bit.

That was one of my favourite Dredd stories in ages (not that I've disliked any recent ones).  I love a one-and-done.  Got a laugh out of me on every page without ever getting overly silly.  Got a hankering for Pasta Puttaneca now.

Quote from: norton canes on 02 February, 2023, 03:07:33 PMNew tooth, that's weird...

A big tonal shift for Dredd after last week and the double-whammy of a couple of Rob Williams' favourite tropes - large heads on small bodies and references in the third person. Not sure that 'furball' joke works unless we assume Sneetches is actually saying 'furball', which the inverted tags suggest they're not. Sorry, am I overanalysing it? First rule of comedy Spike, don't overanalyse it.

I know what you mean about the furball joke. Personally, I have chosen to believe he's saying the word everytime he's coughing one up.

Borag Thungg Y'all!

Haven't been on here in ages due to house moves and an ever increasing backlog of progs.  But, after a catch-up of the current runs thought I'd return to the forum and give my half-creds worth of opinions.

Dredd - Always like a Niemand Dredd tale and very much enjoying this one.  My only critique (and its not a problem as such) is that since the kidnapping attempt last prog, its not looked very 'Mega City One', and just looks a bit contemporary (from the van the kidnappers used, to a lot of the general architecture).  It reminds me more of the 2012 movie version of MC1. To be honest, it adds to the gritiness of the tale so by no means a bad thing.  Overall,  a thrilling thrill.  I do worry things will pan out badly for poor old Citizen Aguerra.

Joe Pineapples - Personally not really a fan.  Very Mills.  Clunky dialogue with an occassional song thrown in to up the word count (a bit harsh that perhaps, but I do find a lot of his stories include at least one old blues or folk lyrics in them)

Hope - I think I've accidentally skipped an entire book somewhere within my backlog.  That being said, despite feeling confused, I'm hung on to the plot (I think) and look forward to the next one.

The Out - Think I missed an entire book of this too, but it's kind enough to let you know what happened previously so I feel like I'm on track.  Best thing in the prog!

Proteus Vex - Suffers only to being the second story in the prog featuring an epic intergalactic space-war, otherwise I'm a big fan of the way the story is always told as a history lesson.  Probably missed a previous run of this too. Is there still a little guy inside him?  If so, I'd like to see more of the wee fella,

All in all, a decent crop of thrill power (albeit with a mouldy old pineapple)

Quote from: JimmyNailz on 14 July, 2021, 11:38:54 AMI also agree, its a waste not to have Anderson ageing. I feel like there is a great story to be told in her coming to terms with losing her youthful good looks.
I would hope if they ever do fully address Anderson's age and actually make her look her age, they'd move beyond the hackneyed and played out angle of a woman losing her looks. I don't recall Anderson as ever having been especially bothered about that anyway.

You're quite right. I phrased that badly. I meant, there is a some good stories to be mined from an older/wiser Anderson.

I bought this partly to support Rebellions output and because I like Dani's artwork, but mainly picked it up for a friends daughter (I think she's 10 or 11ish) who has shown an interest in comics and for whom I hoped it would be appropiate. On an initial flick through I saw the word "shit" being uttered in one of the back-up strips so immediately put all thoughts of gifting it to a young lass to one side.

I then started reading for my own entertainment but just couldn't get into it.

Overall, just not sure who this was aimed at.

I like the idea of one story continuing through multiple strips and have no issue with the enviromental message....

...HOWEVER....

I thought having the same "I//We" possession thing happen in all the strips made for a boring read. It was the same story told several times, just with a different cast. I cottoned on to the "Mother Earth taking revenge on humanity" plot from the first Dredd strip, so the rest of the Prog//Meg lacked any kind of mystery or intrigue.  I think it would have worked better if each strip had a seemingly unconnected event occuring that Anderson then discovered were all linked.

THEN the final Dredd chapter felt very unDredd to me. No one got any come-uppance, Anderson wasn't even given a slap on the wrist for attacking Joe and potentially almost wiping out humanity, the Evil-MegaCorp lady's "yes we've done wrong, but humanity can do better" speech was seemingly out-of-character and so cheesy I wanted to have it on a cracker, AND they then allowed the aforementioned MegaCorp lady, now a potentially dangerous demi-god, to just get on with things with nothing more than a "best keep an eye on her"
The whole thing felt like a clumsy attempt at an all-ages Judge Dredd Megazine to me.

I also agree, its a waste not to have Anderson ageing. I feel like there is a great story to be told in her coming to terms with losing her youthful good looks.

I really enjoyed this weeks prog though, so that eased my disappointment with the Summer Special.

I loved how Thistlebone starts with Malcolm saying,
"Glad you could join me, I think you have the wrong idea about me" before he goes on to explain we had the EXACT right idea about him!
Nice subversion of what I expected to be
him making himself out to be the victim of everything
Unlike a television show about police corruption I could mention, I thought Dredd landed the ending of A Penitent Man rather nicely.

Deadworld, not as gruesome as recent Visions, and unfortunately my recollection of the backstory isn't up to scratch - who's Fairfax?

Fairfax is the first Judge who turned up in the first arc of Fall Of Deadworld, who was helping Jess Childs (and who Jess and the gang saved from De'Ath... though possibly a little too late as he'd been "deadfluided").

Megazine / Re: Meg 430: The New Flesssh!

My Meg got lost in transit but  the lovely customer service droids at the Nerve Centre were kind enough to send me a new one.

Loved Dredd this month! A classic tale of Mega City craziness complimented with some outstanding artwork from Karl Richardson. The first page with the blurred backgrounds look incredible and really POP.

Megatropolis continues to be my favourite thing in the Meg at the moment. Niemand can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. Hi srecent run of Dredd's in the prog were fantastic but THIS is a masterpiece. Dave Taylors artwork is utterly gorgeous. LOVE! IT!!!

Devlin Waugh is a lot of fun. The opening panel is a lovely homage to a Dutch painting by Pieter Claesz called "A still life with a roemer, a crab and a peeled lemon" (currently on display at Art Gallery Of South Australia) and then we get more artwrold hi-jinx as the story unfolds. Mike Dowling's artwork is once again fab-u-lous!

Returners I need to (and will) read the first run of to know what's what but I do like the way the larger artwork jumps off the page.

Deliverance feels a bit sickly as its meant to. Nice to see the Dark Judges wear some new threads, but I hope its permanent. Fear without his helmet just isn't as cool looking.

All in all a top Meg even  without Dreadnoughts or Lawless. Tis truly a Golden Age!

Really enjoyed the opening to this new Dredd story. Niemand has fast become my favourite modern Dredd writer and I'm glad we've had a run of stories penned by his hand. Tom Foster's art is as lovely as ever.  I don't fancy poor Kyle Asher's chances!

Side note: Has there been an SJS story where they aren't the bad guys? I'd be well up for a Line Of Duty style SJS story where they are rooting out genuinely "Bent Judges" (or should I just get doodling a picture of SJS Judges Hastings, Arnott and Flemming and get this fan-fic concept out of my head?)

Thistlebone keeps up the creepy but I too need a reread to remember who the main players are and where we left them at the end of the first arc.

Visions Of Deadworld - DARK JUDGE SEX ACTION!?!?! Certainly got me hot under the collar! I'd have thought any pleasures of the flesssssh would be very much frowned upon!!! Very enjoyable stuff though. I like a Deadworld one-shot. It makes it much easier to follow.

Terror Tales - Suitable creepy story with great black and white artwork. Enjoyed it muchly!

Feral & Foe - Love these characters and this chapter kept up the fun dialogue. Greatr stuff.

Overall, another great prog. Aren't we lucky Earthlets!

...in making my previous glib attempts at humour, I forgot to mention I enjoyed part 1 of Thargs 3hriller.  Felt Bix Barton-esque and I do enjoy the occasional silly series of that ilk (or Zilk?)

Thistlebone requires me to have a reread of how the last series ended, as I can't remember what's what. Lovely art though.

A fairly enjoyable prog. Looking forward to some new thrills in a couple of weeks though. Really enjoyed Dredd again, everything else feels like it could've been wrapped up quicker (or maybe I'm just one of them Earthlets who impatiently wants shiney new things and wants them NOW!)

In regards to the letters page and the complaint about Tharg being "too political" min the "Journey of the Plague Years Damage Report". I hadn't even noticed these notes in amongst small print of the Nerve Centre until Earthlet Wilks. Now I'm going to have to go back through a years worth of progs to catch up on what I missed.  Though can I here and now voice my displeasure at Tharg's mocking of 'Police Academy 4' which I consider the series at its absolute best. I read 2000AD to get away from real-world film critiques I don't agree with - its the last thing I want as a reader!
