Quote from: The Monarch on 19 March, 2023, 04:18:13 AMokay i just noticed two big flaws with mean team that i didn't even think about last time i read it....if earth fries electronics...how the hell does henry moons voice synthesiser still work on earth thats electronic right?

spit-baling here, but perhaps electronics can work Terminator-style: only when encased inside a biological organism, in this case Henry's throat.

Quote from: Rogue Judge on 19 March, 2023, 02:46:29 AMI've not read Helltrekkers, but that cover, not to mention the creative talent involved, have enticed me. Think I'll be getting this one (regular cover)!

This story was just starting when i first picked up the prog in 1984 so I've always had a soft spot for it. Re-read the whole run courtesy of Hachette a few years back and while it does not quite live up to my teenage memories, it is still a good read. At times gruesome, it veers between sentimental and cynical, the way only W&G can.

I know this is not the exact '70s pop-punk lead singer Cassandra is modeled after but this  picture of Belinda Carlisle accompanied a Telegraph interview she did a year or so ago...aged 62.

Maybe our favourite PSI Judge follows the same diet or goes to the same yoga classes.

absolutely excellent tribute in Vulture. Some wonderful prose, not least this paragraph

"part of his power came from the cognitive dissonance of seeing one of cinema's scariest sleazebags cast as a soft-spoken guardian of civilization. There would be a period where you'd wait for the other shoe to drop, revealing Sizemore's character as a secret monster — and when it became clear that he wasn't one, his character's allies seemed more formidable, because they'd somehow persuaded a wolf to guard the farm."

Here is a bit more detail, including the Vile Bodies reference.

I agree, such a shame he has not made another appearance in the decade since his last outing

wasn't directing a Curiosity Killed The Cat video one of the last things Andy Warhol ever did?

My first post in the channel and also a word on frames. I have three of these Nelsen frames, measuring 100cm x 50cm. Formerly used to display Australian daybill movie posters, all now repurposed for Dredd original art.

I got this page direct from Carl Critchlow a couple of years back, the climax of the Trifecta storyline.

A bit of dead space around the three pieces but I enjoy seeing the original art alongside how it appeared in the prog...and of course, the cover to 1812 is a beauty.

Quote from: Dark Jimbo on 09 February, 2023, 10:24:43 AMThe Judas Strain and By Private Contract have never been reprinted.

By Private Contract is available in Dredd Guatemala - as if that volume did not have enough to recommend it.

Sleeping Dogs Lie is sensational. A double twist in the last page, with a final panel that is pure perfection.

I enjoy the fact that in Late Spring / Summer of 1977, 20th Century Fox had two Sci Fi Movies on its release schedule: Damnation Alley and a mid budget space opera by the guy that directed American Graffiti.

As Alex says, from an executive POV Damnation Alley looked like the better bet, the one that would bring in more revenue, but that movie's production hit a few hurdles and its promotional budget was shifted to Star Wars.

I suspect quality would always win out eventually but Star Wars could very well have been dead on arrival if the studio's promo spend had been wasted on giant cockroaches.

Anyone know who's taking over Spector?

Back in 2019 JW mentioned either Colin MacNeil or Simon Coleby. Since then, no mention AFAIK. I guess the first two Megs (April and May) will feature the two Spector episodes that appeared in the Carlos Special, then one or other of the aforementioned will take over for episode III.

unrelated to the OP, but I thought I would piggy-back since the title is identical to what I need.

looking for a Dredd story from (I think) around two years ago in the Prog.

Two-parter, that saw a rat/insect/alien (can't quite recall which) detective partner with Dredd to crack a case. The two of them seemed to get on well, mutual respect flowing both ways

Ring any bells?
