Yes, we're in Geek Paradise here alright. I was only reading the other night that the Greek philosopher Democritus guessed that everything was made of atoms. It took 2000 and a few hundred years to prove him right. Zeus bless his cotton socks

"... the toughest man to come out of the tough town of Sligo"

Liked that one myself. I have friends in Sligo, it's not quite pre-Giulliani Hell's Kitchen

Great stuff (though not quite up there with progs 2000 and 2001). I love when they do a Christmas Dredd, especially an important one like this.
Last Christmas's Dredd opened with a festive gang-rape, as I recall.

Oh yeah, another thing, I had a Nirvana ticket with the date of Kurt's death on it- obviously the concert was cancelled. What did I do with it? I brought it back to HMV and got my £16 refunded. Those youthful moral scruples again

'H'mm. Dating tips from middle aged comics nerds? You'll forgive me if I stick to Rohypnol.'

Ho ho! L., as the kids say, O.L. Not for nothing are you called The Cosh.
I spurned a girl's advances because she I thought she was too young (18, I was 24 - I've since thrown such silly moral scruples aside). She's now a rising Irish TV presenter. Still, eh

Missed and reclaimed opportunity: I'd always wondered whether Irvine Welsh saw the characters in the Trainspotting film as looking the same as how he'd imagined them. I went to a booksigning of his and forgot to ask him.
Fortunately, a year or so later he was doing a Q and A session about films and I remembered to ask him.
The answer: 'Well, not really'. He'd never had any kind of mental image of Begbie, for instance, until the play came out, then he changed it when he saw Robert Carlisle in the film.

I just want to say that the saarlac was shit when they put the venus flytrap thing sticking up out of it. It deviated hugely and unforgivably from the saarlac me and my brother made with sand and razor-shells on the beach in Blackpool 22 years ago.

Just pulling this thread back because something popped into my mind recently.
Is a rubber (as in a pencil eraser, not the horrific, ungodly, unconceived-baby-destroying prophylactic sheaths of death that one hears so much of about these days) so-called because it is made of rubber, or because it rubs things out?

so the exposure of a myth as untrue is debunked as an untrue myth.
My head is spinning

And on top of that, I've just heard a hugely disappointing radio interview with some scientist type. Apparently, if you do your maths right, it actually CAN be scientifically proven that bees can fly. On the plus side though, the guy is looking into developing a type of Aladdin style flying magic carpet. No shit. I was only half-listening, to be honest, but i'm pretty sure that's what he was saying

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better answer than that. I've also heard recently that reading in poor light actually DOESN'T harm your eyes. What next? You'll feel the benefit even if you don't take your jacket off inside?
