It seems that HMV may have been given a lifeline from the major music labels & film companies, as reported today in the Sunday Times

There are around 50 potential suitors circling HMV and its chief executive Trevor Moore is 'convinced' that the chain's future can be secured

Music labels and film studios are reportedly planning to throw their weight behind a rescue deal for collapsed retailer HMV.

Entertainment giants including Universal Music, Warner Music and Sony are planning to offer HMV suitors generous credit terms and cut the price of CDs and DVDs to help keep HMV's presence on the high street, according to The Sunday Times.

They are fearful the demise of HMV - the last specialist music and entertainment retail chain - will lead to even more pressures on the industry as supermarkets and online firms such as Amazon compete to slash prices.

It is thought turnaround group Hilco - which already owns HMV Canada - is currently among the favourites to rescue HMV and is said to have been locked in talks with administrators Deloitte on Friday.

At stake is the group's 92-year-old heritage, more than 4,120 jobs and 223 stores.

There was pain for 760 staff at failed DVD and games rental firm Blockbuster when administrator Deloitte announced it was closing 129 of its 528 stores in the coming weeks.

Both firms hit the wall within 24 hours of each other last week in a devastating blow for Britain's retail sector .

But there are around 50 potential suitors circling HMV and its chief executive Trevor Moore has said he is "convinced" that the chain's future can be secured.

Game, which was bought out of administration itself last April, has confirmed it is interested in buying stores. It did not reveal how many shops it was looking at acquiring, but reports suggest it could bid for up to 45 in locations where it does not yet have a presence.

Other potential bidders are thought to include private equity firm Endless, which is the group that bought The Works out of administration, and private equity veteran Jon Moulton through his Better Capital firm.

Try looking up Servlite or Rutland on the web. They are the two main suppliers in the UK & will sometimes send out replacement shades or try going back to the store that sold it they can sometimes get hold of spare shades from ones that have been returned

December 22, 2012   Kapow! Comic Con
Well, well, well seems Kapow won’t be returning in 2013. A statement from Lucy and Sarah states as much

Dear Friends,

Due to an increased workload in Millarworld and Millarworld Productions, we will not have time to arrange another wonderful Kapow! Comic Convention in 2013.

Sarah and I have had to make a very tough decision, and after much deliberation and poring over upcoming work schedules, we have decided to put Kapow! 2013 on hold. The event is a genuine pleasure to work on and everyone has been a total delight, but this year we are unable to dedicate the time necessary to deliver a weekend that once again exceeds the expectations of attendees, guests, exhibitors, publishers and studios.

Millarworld Productions first TV show ‘Pavilion of Dreams’ is scheduled to air on BBC One Scotland on Jan 3rd at 9pm and in 2013 both myself and Sarah will be heavily involved in the development and production of various TV shows and feature films.

We hope to return with an even bigger and better show for Kapow! 2014.

Best wishes and enjoy Christmas and New Year,

Lucy & Sarah Unwin

Seems that that “San Diego Comic Con of the UK” , yeah really, will be back in 2014. I find this odd as Kick Ass 2 is out in 2013 and would have thought it would be a perfect platform to launch it.

Just found this on Bleeding Cool website

So do you want to be on TV? Live in the UK? Don’t mind the potential of being mocked for your comic collection?

Thn get in touch with RDF Television who are making a new series, Collectaholics, for BBC Two.

Presented by Mark Hill and Mel Giodroyc, Hill states;

If you’re worried that the aim is to have a laugh at your expense, or not take you and your collection seriously, I can assure you that this isn’t the case. As a diehard collector with over-flowing shelves of all manner of things myself, it would be a bit of ‘the pot calling the kettle black’.
And, although financial value is always important, we want to explore the value of the stories behind the objects themselves – and what they mean to you.

However, the show’s producers talk about helping to “curate” or “downsize” your collection, which smacks of it being one of those Hoarding Intervention shows.

Still, maybe you’d value that.

Contact collectaholics@rdftelevision.com, call 0207 0134194 ot text to 07818 048802 and leave your details…

just spoke to Pat Mills & he told me that the deluxe edtion has only the original Marshal Law stories & none of the crossovers due to the rights all being held by different publishers. DC didn't want to go & buy the rights from them, but may do at a later dte if this sells well.
He also mentioned that Kevin O'Neil has done a new cover for this along with the images he created for the Top Shelf edition that didn't happen. DC have also got Jonathan Ross to write an intro for the book.

Books & Comics / IDW Dredd variant covers
« on: 27 September, 2012, 10:29:52 PM »
I was in my local comic store today & they told me that IDW are doing a store specific variant cover for all stores that buy over 500 copies of the new Dredd comic. they don't know what the exact details are on the design yet & should get the full details in the next few days, but think it would be a standard variant cover but with the individual store's name on the cover.

They have started taking orders from the regular customers & anyone else who's would be after one,so if you want one please contact them a www.acecomics.co.uk

I wouldn't be surprised if Forbidden Planet will have them aswell
