Yeah, what is that? In the same vein, 'could of'. As in, "I could of read this shit before I hit [send] and it sounds almost right anyway".

Definitely - sets my teeth on edge whenever I see (or hear) someone making that mistake.

But is there a link between any success of Rebellion's subscription service and the presence of 2000AD on the shelves of superhero shops? I doubt it.

If a comic shop is reducing its 2000AD stock I would guess that has more to do with not enough superhero fans getting into 2000AD progs. Perhaps a growing number of people are getting into 2000AD through the collected editions and that is affecting sales of the prog.

Mega-City Comics isn't exactly a superhero shop - as with most (all?) comic shops it obviously does sell them, but it has a good range of other comics as well, from Moomins to indie comics with early progs, manga and all the usual stuff you get in the good shops.

I cribbed it from Barney, so I don't actually know where it first appeared.

I remember the guide to Megaspeak from the bog paper days - can't remember which prog. This rubbish retcon is from the 1990 Judge Dredd Mega-special - but it confirms the original meaning:

It's 2015 is turning into the Charge of the Old Farts' Brigade, with gigs by the Sisters of Mercy, New Model Army and the Fields of the Nephilim all happening towards the back end of the year.

One of the best concerts / festivals I've ever been to had New Model Army on before Fields of the Nephilim in M'era Luna about five years ago.  They managed to sing Dawnrazor as the sun was going down...

Deca Thargo - Earthlet who has read 2000AD since prog 1

It should be pointed out that Deca Thargo was a new one on the 10th anniversary, and so at the time would have also meant 'has read 2000AD for ten years'.  That's my preferred definition, anyway...


As for first use of other terms, something else I can look out for on my prog slog...

What would be a good recommendation for three players; me, Mrs Tips (slightly more prudish than the rest of the family) and Tiny Tips (now actually 15 and following in his father's footsteps)?

I got Fluxx recently. Only played it a couple of times but it's quite fast and fun.

And, of course, if you get bored of playing it you can say stuff like: "Not bloody Flux again!"

I'll back up Fluxx (lots of different editions available - Family Fluxx may be best to cater to Mrs Tips, though have a look at the other themed versions available).


Monopoly Deal - at least one person I know who really does not like Monopoly (understatement) has a copy of this.


Love Letter (as someone else mentioned) is a good one - takes a few minutes to learn, available in different themes.

I'm waiting for Dredd before buying Apocalypse as well (though already have the Mars Attacks! booster, to recreate one of the better IDW offerings).

Munchkin should this game be played by adults or their children or both?

I have the core rules for their spin on Dungeons & Dragons, but slightly water damaged.

Wonder if there is compendium.

Munchkin is a card game that can be played by 2-4 players aged 10 and up (that's what it says on the boxes in front of me, though the more cards you have the more players can join in).

What you have is a roleplaying game based on the D20 (Dungeons and Dragons 3.5) rules system but Munchkin themed.  This is the same games system which was used as the basis for the Judge Dredd and Sláine RPGs which were released at the beginning of this century.  The latest Judge Dredd (and Strontium Dog) games use Traveller instead of D20.

p.s. there's also a Munchkin-themed boardgame, and another card game which is a rethemed version of Love Letter, but Munchkin itself is the original card game.

Any new news on the Munchkin Apocalypse: Judge Dredd release date?  I think it was mentioned somewhere upthread (the expansion, not the release date).

In theory, Phoenix stories are "all ages", but having read about 150 issues to date, the content seems exclusively geared towards younger readers*

* although there's the odd pic of a ding-dong or fanny if you have a hangup about human nudity.

Holmes ejaculated six times, Watson ejaculated eleven times (one of those times was at his fiancée)

Phelps ejaculated three times and Mrs St Clair's husband ejaculated just once (but it was out of a second-floor window).

I wonder if a competitor to 2000ad would expand the market or just take readers away from 2000ad?

Even as a teen without much in the way of funds I would always buy 2000ad but could still find room for Toxic and would sporadically dip into Crisis, Revolver and what not. Would be nice to have options but I think for Brit comics that ship has sailed.

We'll have to wait until The Phoenix readers grow older (not being a reader myself I'm not sure what the age range is - would it be possible to jump from 'children's comics' to 2000AD, as it was when I was eight, or is there a bit too much of a gap in between)?

Just to make clear - 2000AD has grown up with its readers, which in the main were a few years older than I was at the time, up to my late teens / adulthood - is The Phoenix aimed at old enough children that they would be able to graduate seamlessly from Ph to 2000AD or would there need to be a gateway comic for the interim years?
