Very kind comments thanks very much :)

Acrylic paints, system 3 I think, on canvas. flat brushes of various sizes initially, with a fairly small and fine brush for the details, and quite a few hours. 14 hours all told maybe? I'm really not sure as it was very stop-start and done now and then over a couple of weeks.

Thanks! I did wonder about putting Dredd on there pushing his Lawmaster up the hill like the Hovis advert for the advent calendar. Maybe the next one!

Great sketches Marbles you must be well pleased!

Quote from: Marbles on 27 May, 2024, 08:14:32 PMI didn't see any fellow boarders sadly, maybe we need name tags next year !??

I was wearing a T-Shirt with my forum avatar image but it wasn't that obvious. I usually had an open shirt over the top cos it was freezing in the panels room.

Really big name tags? Or a T-shirt with "2000ad (logo) Forum" in big letters followed by forum alias in big letters then actual first name in... big letters? Front and back?

Thanks! I started by drawing Hammerstein and just built the rest up around him. Not a lot of design in there, so it's a bit chaotic! Deadlock and Blackblood are tucked in the corner as they were an afterthought, I just realised I was a few warriors short  :)

I always find painting a bit of a battle, and end up painting some bits multiple times! My paintings ain't sci-fi/fantasy - just taken from life, regular town and country landscapes usually. Here's Gold Hill in Shaftesbury:

Which started out as a fairly detailed drawing, using a grid to get the proportions right, then painted over:

But there were many steps and mistakes made getting from drawing to painting.

Watching something like "Portrait/Landscape artist of the year" is a real eye-opener when you see something lifelike being wrangled out of the simple starting blocks.

Very nice Giles. All brilliant, I particularly like the Barry/Mo one, great fun.

I thought, at first glance, on my mobile phone, that Dredd had mounted a robot ostrich. Having zoomed in a bit I can see what's going on and kudos to Luke for doing something different. It is like McCrea to the power of McCrea.

Thanks! I really must get the pens out again, feeling mildly inspired by Lawless

Looks like you've got Joe down to me Nightbook. Nice one! Here's my ABC Warriors Art Stars entry, it was fun drawing the droids, and I was fairly happy with them, but my approach to the guns was completely half-arsed. I'll be checking out that video, thanks!

Quote from: Trooper McFad on 26 May, 2024, 10:53:36 PMIf it's not been mentioned yet a big nod to the exhibition put on by David Roach - what a variety & quality of pages - super stuff and what can I say about that Lego exhibit, awesome stuff

Yeah that exhibition was terrific. I wandered around it about four times. Loved that Bellardinelli Flesh spread. I leafed through most of the David Roach pages, some lovely stuff in there.

The Lego guy said they'd shortly be breaking the whole thing up for their next project - unless someone bought it. They were asking for £3000.

I'm back home, what a great weekend! Thanks to Colin, Luke (Boots) and Charlotte, Craig (Trooper) and Wendy for looking after this convention virgin. Got my first artwork, some convention sketches. Was sorely tempted to get some original 2000ad pages when leafing through work by Fraser, Burns, Weston, Davis, Dorey and Roach but the wallet was already smarting at that point.

Enjoyed the panels, Garth Ennis and Mike Carroll particularly chatty. Boo Cook and John McCrea added some amusing chaos. I didn't catch the Dante walkthrough but it sounded really good too.

Really enjoyed chatting to the creators, all super friendly and happy to chat and they do like a bit of positive feedback as quite often they don't hear much about their work after handing it in to Tharg! And it was an eye opener to hear even Chris Weston express a little dissatisfaction with some of his own work which to these eyes looked eye-bleedingly good.

Haul (with sketches by Austin, Cornwell, Holden, and Fraser):

Some Lawless gossip.

John Warner's looking to get another Rok out, in talks with a publisher this time.
Spector's being collected later this year, yay! He's done another HMS nightshade with Dan.

PJ's done more Devlin with Alex.

More Void Runners is planned with Boo, after the upcoming Death Cap.

Simon Davis didn't mind drawing all that horrible stuff in Thistlebone, yes I asked him lol. But he was glad for the naive style for the flashbacks.

And Simon Fraser's potentially got another project with Rob Williams, hope that works out. He and his wife came over from the states for the con. Yikes.
