General / Re: Socjo's screenplays

some good info there,scoje.
I would recommend to anyone Brian Michael Bendis' comic Fortune and Glory. Its about his time in Hollywood trying to sell the screenplay to his comic Torso(Elliot Ness vs a serial killer-true story). He talks about a reader who has never recommed a single screenplay to a studio, for exactly the reason scojo gives above. Its a pretty frightening book.

A Tall order Blackblood, but here goes...

Judge Dredd : The Pit.Amidst all the Stallone-jimping of the time, this gem quietly sneaked in.The foundations for Dredd's present and future are in this story.

Chopper : Song of The Surfer.can anyone remember a rather clever letter of the time which asked what happened in the last episode as they missed it.I.E. did he live or die?Tharg fobbed them off with something about the graphic novel coming out.

D.R. and Quinch go to Hollywood :altogether now:   MIND THE ORANGES MARLON!

Zenith Phase One :Poor Old Siadwel Rhys...

Strontium Dog :Outlaw.Brillant, its like the Dirty Dozen.Middenface is such a great character.

Judge Dredd : Cry of the Werewolf.Steve Dillon's best ever work?

Nemesis Book 4 : I didnt have a clue who the ABC Warriors were,so this was my introduction to them.

Is that 7?

There were 2 female Wally Squad judges in part 3,the original agent and Hollister, head of Wally Squad.Dredd says to her "bring another of your undercover people in,posing as Yankee's next of kin" to which she replies "I'll do it myself".Next time we see Hollister shes with Yankees body in the morgue.Maybe she just asked Sin City where he was,and they told her he was dead.Thats the simplest answer.

I didn't know any of that behind the scenes stuff, but reading that story again today,I don't know how I ever thought Steelgrave was Wagner.Doh!

I think you're probably right, all the other Steelgrave stories are total shite, but sugar beat has that Stogie "keel heem senor" type dialogue which I always found hilarious.

Its called The Sugar Beat, progs 873-878.Dredd goes to the Pan-Andean Conurb to stop the sugar supply to the big meg.Its written by Sonny Steelgrave, which I think is a pseudonym of big johns,as it was only a few weeks later when he returned as Dredd writer, but I could be wrong. There are quite a few Ron Smith stories around that time, all of which are up to his usual high standard.

All week long I was thinking whats he gonna do?send her to Titan?break her jaw?maybe even shag her?I just didn't see it coming at all.Thats just brillant writing.I think she'll be back in Dredd's life eventually. They could have a nuclear family with Rico doing all the chores and Mrs Gunderson coming round for tea.I'd pay good money to see that!

Dredd at his most heroic has got to be Necropolis, his return to the city in that knackered old car is still the most intense next prog -waiting experience I've ever had.Oh,and when Demarco snogged him. That was a long week too.

Couldn't agree more,PVS.I think Dredd is one of THE greatest works of science fiction of all time, and a definitive history of the Judges and the Meg is a brillant idea.Wasn't there a story in the megazine early on The Bad Man or something, that was gonna do that very story, but it disappeared after a few episodes? If you think about it,Fargo would be born round about now.

I think like, saying like all the time in Bec and Kawl just draws instant comparisons to DR and Quinch which can't be a positive thing for any new thrill really.Lets see where it goes though.
Sin City is another ensemble beauty, these stories are becoming more interesting all the time. There must be 20-30 Judges appearing semi regularly now,and the relationships between them and Dredd are more satisfying than any blow up the city mega epic.

If thats the case then it could take years of legal wrangling(and a shedload of lawyer money)to even attempt to license the material.I would love to see it happen, but look whats happened to Miracleman.

Sin City is magnificent so far,and is shaping up to be a classic.I love the de-megafication angle, and I have vague recollections of seeing El Muerte before, can anyone confirm this or am I thinking of Crazy Barry or a few other Banana City stories.Guthrie is a great character,so is Hollister(the story where she joined the Council Of Five was priceless).

Hey Kertap, the first movie sounds like it could be State of Grace, with Sean Penn and Gary Oldman. Its full of John Woo slow motion, and theres a shootout in a bar at the end on St. Patricks day.Ring any bells?
