I've just spent a pleasant half-hour or so rummaging through the new look forum and I think it's pretty Zarjaz.
Well done, team, you deserve an extra oil break for this - but Tharg probably won't allow it, miserable robo-enslaver as he is!
(However, I do miss the "Active Topics" page.)
Reminds me of the last.fm website (except there's no 'black' mode that I can find!)

Yes, the look
is nice, but I find navigating quite difficult without the 'Active Topics' option (as I did whenever the last time we had an upgrade/update and the function went AWOL for a bit). 'Updated Topics' doesn't seem to do the same thing.
Can I make a plea for its reinstatement, if humanly (droidly?) possible...?
I like the new quick reply as well. Good job team
I'm with everyone else block! Looks a lot more modern.
I'm glad the avatars have stayed too: having them back the last couple of days has definitely enhanced the forum experience. It's always nice to put a weird picture to a name
It looks so raw! but LFC colours so...

Always found 'Unread Posts' much more useful than Active Topics. Which is fascinating as I know I'm in the minority there.
I see our gold stars have been replaced by bland yellow boxes.
Yesterday we looked like US admirals or McDonalds employees. How do we measure our status now?

Ohhhh now has a much less faffy way to add links RESULT. This is fantastic... well assuming it works...
lovely lovely feature... (http://www.2000ad.org/)
And with videos too, we're being spoiled.
Time to put a stop to that right away... :lol:
I'm feeling very discombobulated...
Though it's nice to get an avatar back (this is the photo my wife took of me the day Andy Diggle said he'd give me some work at the first Dredd Con in 2000?)
Like any change, it's going to take a bit of getting used to, but it certainly feels a little more this century. Just because the comic is called 2000AD, it doesn't mean that the forum should look like it was designed then.
I note that we still don't have a 'like' button...!
Works great on iPhone (or at least wpuld but I think the 2000ad menu bar running along the top isn't wrapping on an iPhone size so it's a little less than perfect.
Early days I guess, but I much prefer the old look.
Took me 5 mins to find the login screen- it's really not obvious at all on an iPad.
Big mug of meh, here. The most useful button - "Active Topics" - has gone away. That makes life worse, not better. Stars being replaced with yellow boxes looks like something's missing.
Hopefully the upgrade will mean that our avatars won't keep disappearing, so that's a potential plus.
Active Topics, though. That was really helpful for tracking.

Good point. So why doesn't the forum look more like a comic then, eh, with each comment in a speech bubble coming from the avatar in a frame of its own? Strive, guys! >:D

Now there's Goddam worms everywhere.
I hope I'm not alone in thinking this new fangled site thingy a bit... ugly.
No lovely artwork adorning the sides, no branding at all really.
Meh.
It just seems harder to see what all the topics are at a glance and which have been updated.

Next order of business is to try and think of an avatar. Something 2000AD-related, but not so obvious that a dozen other people use it.

Not a fan. Bit 1992. Very... functional and cold, with a lot of empty red and grey.

You should be able now to navigate to your profile at the top of the site and see "Look and Layout" then you will be able to choose light/dark theme for your profile. This will take affect once you are logged in.
Thanks

@WebAdmin:
A fuller fix for the mobile issues might be required (the site CSS appears to lock to desktop for some components, regardless of platform), but I did a quick hack locally yesterday that appeared to fix things in a test environment.
In responsive.css, place the following after '@media screen and (max-width: 720px) {'
.main-menu li.menu-item {
font-size: 11px !important;
padding: 8px 5px;
}
.main-menu li img {
display: none !important;
}
When the viewport goes below 720, the above reduces the nav font size, lowers the padding, and removes the 2000 AD logo (which otherwise gets squashed).
Looks good, but as with everything at our age...

Troubleshooting might be quite simple.
If it's blocked on all devices at your home -> IP is blocked. If you don't have static IP then this IP changes and it's might be shared by lots of people.
Old device -> Might not support up to take protocols
PC only -> Maybe Anti Virus ?
@ WebAdmin - I can't find the 'Spoiler tag' option either.

Dammit. I wonder what's happening???
If there's an IP ban, it should show up with a ban reason when you login. (We've had that elsewhere, where some poor sods haven't been able to login for months, because their IP matches some spammer or other. And then I've had to wade through the backlog of dozens of identical ban messages, updating them all to see which is the culprit. Fun times.)
Honestly, what's going on with your access doesn't make a jot of sense.
Thought the search function might work, but it doesn't.
The main way I interact with the forum seems to have been nuked?
a list of updated topics - clicking on "updated topics" ddoesnt seem to give me that same "last 10 posts" list I normally use?

Found a mod that might help with applying a "
recently updated topics" link for the board: Recent Topics On "Recent Posts" Page (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=1414).
Other issues summarized:
- Logging in "forever" seems not to actually work.
- The search function errors on any search at all - it's broken.
- The light/bright option we were directed to use doesn't appear to exist.
- No spoiler tags (but mods available here (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?action=mods;search=Spoiler)).

On my PC, there's a little drop down menu arrow at the top-left of the page (it's ridiculously tiny and seemingly designed so that you won't be able to notice it).
Click that and select "Profile Details".
The top section is "Personalized Picture", and there are lots of options. I use "Upload an avatar", and "Choose File". (In advance, I prepare a suitable image, and tend to use 128x128, but I can't remember why.)
Quote from: Fate Amenable to Change on 04 February, 2023, 05:55:40 PMThe search function errors on any search at all - it's broken.
To be fair, that's not really a huge difference from the old 'search' function, which didn't error out, but which literally never returned any useful results, regardless of how specific your search terms were.
I just put "site:forums.2000ad.com" at the end of my google search if I'm looking for something here.

I get the same thing. But it seems to work if I turn the screen sideways. Or wide rather than portrait, whatever the terms are.
Cheers

Ah. That's interesting —- I'll give that a go, but I was talking about the in-site search feature, which has always been (to channel Billy Butcher) "fuckin' diabolical". 🙂
Weirdly, I can access the forum on my chromebook I use at home but when I try to access on my iphone it says I'm banned!
I access through my Samsung phone, and it's a bit of a mess to be honest. It doesn't fit the screen, with the header being way too wide which throws everything out. The 'Unread Topics' function- which used to deliver just a list of most recent posts since last time I visited- is either greyed out or I'm actually looking at it, in which case it's useless as it just shows the list of subforums and the most recent post in each. Which means I have to go into each subforum in turn and find the active threads.
I have to log in each time I visit, as the '30 days/ month (whatever it was) that I clicked doesn't work and there is no 'forever' option.
My avatar has disappeared again (nice to have it back for a few days!) and so has everyone else's.
Ho hum!
SBT
I just don't like it. But it feels very constrained. The top half of my screen is filled with bland blocks of red, black and white. It's emotionless. It's cold. Not for me.
I do like the ability to more easily add links and photos.

I blame thrill-suckers myself. (Edit: at least I have an avatar now, Thanks to whoever posted the instructions for how to do it.)
And a damn fine avatar it is.
Avatars show if the screen is over a certain width, that will be by design.

I also notice if you are in the main forum section that at the bottom you will see "Recent posts" which might not be 100% like "Active Posts" but at least you can see the last 5 posts
@broodblik this just has been added.
You will be able to see last 5 post in the bottom of the page and added link in the menu on the top.
This is best what we can do with current functionality.

Checked when logged into the work VPN and the IP address does change - which you all probably knew but I was never sure! So that suggests it is somehow (???) related to the IP... or could be conflating two seperate issues I suppose... when I tether to my phone it works and again unsurprisingly has a different IP.

This is possible related to latest issue with have found with old cookie. Fix has been put in place so hopefully issue will be fixed.
We suspect that in some cases old "forever" cookie was causing bans for 30 days.
Cookie name has been changed to resolve this issue and ban changed to 2 days after x number of failed logins.
