Has anyone actually read these? Been looking for them myself but can't find them in any other form than e-book, which I might settle for if they are hard to come by...

Books & Comics / Akira - Dark Horse or Kodansha?
01 December, 2013, 07:08:10 PM
After some procrastination and good timing I finally got my mitts on the first volume of Akira in our local library. Naturally, as a fan of the film I had high expectations for the manga. And I was most certainly not disappointed. A solid, flag stone for what looks to be a sprawling epic. Wonderfully stuff.

I'm looking to buy a copy, but Dark Horse (who published the library volume) have now lost the rights to Kodansha who have re-released it. Can anyone verify for me if their is any drop in quality to the print or if the translations come off more iffy?

The much applauded but oft misrepresented art house director, Walerian Borowcyszk, seem's set to finally receive the treatment his films have deserved for half a century. Arrow Films are attempting to develop the funds to produce a HD print for GOTO: l'île d'amour as part of a huge 11 disc set to be released May next year.

Speaking on a personal level, I can think of fewer more fundamentally important people to the world of art house cinema. The man was a genius and created some of the most memorable and thought provoking films of our time. Included in this set will be his entire filmography between 1967 and 1975 (Le théâtre de M. et Mme. Kabal and Le Beta inclusive). Thats nine shorts and five features, spanning the directors early career and containing some of his most iconic films.

Arrow hopes to begin restoration of the films in January for a May release date, there are various option available to any willing to donate.

Ok,mso heres how it is. The computer I have currently is a near 7 year old dell. The RAM is still good, but the fan system is capoot and could basically explode at any moment. Added to that, I just got a steam account and the graphics card is not sufficient for many games presented on the platform. As a result, Im willing to spill the cash (no more than £500 if possible) and get a decent PC that is sufficient for gaming, graphics design and art work and data storage purposes. Im not that down with PC technology, so if anyone here has any recommendations and advice I would be most welcome.

Just finished off the second volume of Appleseed, IMHO Shirows best work besides GITS. Just when did he stop writing such great works as these and Orion (some of the best comics ever concieved IMHO) and start doing nothing above "niche" porn? I know the guy's a recluse but, come on, surely a follow up to Black Magic isn't to much to ask in between Intron Depot pin-ups.  :|

Books & Comics / British comic books?
24 September, 2011, 08:49:24 PM
Damn, why is our country so small and insignificent.
Why must we be faced with the giants of America? Why? Why?
So, I wanna get into more home grown goody's from the mother country, as I currently only read (besides 2KAD and The big Meg of cause) the DWM and Commando, I have a fair bit left to spend on other british comics.
Any sugestions?

General / New crossover concepts
26 August, 2011, 01:32:11 PM
What I have noticed is that people general have a negative attichude to intercompany crossovers.
Most people see them as 'fan service' and it's true, some are of poor quality (I crinched reading Spawn/ Batman, but it's Frank Miller so what do you expect?) but I have found most of the Judge Dredd crossovers to be rather good.
As they are all canon and have had a long term effect on the Dredd world's history (Imprisonment of the dark judges in Die laughing, heavily armed patrols being applied to the undercity after Incubus etc) I was wondering if there could ever be any more out side Judge Dredd?
I always wanted to see Nemesis the warlock vs. Aliens. Thats one alien Torquemada wouldn't even try to eradicate!
Or perhaps Robo-Hunter vs. Terminator.

Any other sugestions

Welcome to the board / Erm, Hi...........'blush'
20 August, 2011, 05:24:31 PM
Hello everyone.
It's nice to meet you all.
I'm guessing as this is my first thread I should probably explain my history to 200AD.
Im only 15, and last christmas I was on a coach trip with my school to London.
While at WHSmiths at one of them million or so drive-ins I picked up my second issue of SFX.
Within said magazine was an article on a rather tasty sounding super hero story called, Zenith.
I was hooked on the idea of alternative dimensions and the effects they could have on our own dimension (or vice verse) due to it's role in my faveourite scine fiction (possible favourite TV show full stop), Doctor Who.
So naturaly Zenith sounded rather appealing. I took notw of the comics title and next promptly forgote about it.
Easter this year I was farting around town on a wet, windy day. So I walked into WHSmiths to buy myself a double decker and found myself staring at a rather Jack Sparrow like charactor being lunged at by a grotesque ghost.
I was facinated by this image and purchased the comic fairly quickly (I was in such a rush to get to the content I forgot to buy my double decker!).
So there I was, sitting under the cannopy of the bus terminal, flipping from mega city mutents to a rather attractive picture of two Tyrannosaurs clashing (The young paleontologist inside me was screaming with joy).
However I was rather perplexted. I was faced with a Judge Dredd story that only featured Judge Dredd in three panels, a rather conffusing scenario of cowboys hunting Dinosaurs (Jurrasic park I kid you not!) and a wordless story about a bunch of COD geeks killing some Jewish look alikes.
However, the end of Spartacus Dandridge promised to be replaced by a double bill of some bloke called 'Nickoli Dante'..........Suffice to say I picked up the next issue to see what would come of it, and 18 progs, 4 megazines, and 5 graphic novels (OK OK, 4 of them are floppies :-\) later im still in love with all these new concepts.
So here I am.
Im looking forward to staying here, you all seem like a pleasent lot........... ;)

P.S. A comment at Everything Comes Back To 2000AD rather frequently under the name of Zach Hawkins, im tolled some memmbers frequent here to. Just saying hi. :)
