Title: Wishlist for 2021
Post by: broodblik on 08 January, 2021, 02:03:09 PM
With all this voting and best off 2020 going on I was wondering what I would like to see coming back in 2021.

My Wishlist for 2021:
1.   Brass Sun
2.   Jaegir
3.   Helium (I want to put this under my fantasy list, but this can happen I am sure)
4.   Kingdom (mister Abnett pretty please with some sugar on top)

My fantasy, o golly gosh this will never happen Wishlist:
1.   Book 4 of Halo Jones by Alan Moore and Ian Gibson
2.   The conclusion of Servant of Evil (Dan Dare)
3.   A proper ending and final series of Savage

3.   A proper ending and final series of Savage

Defo hope we get more Brink next year and would loove to have Kingdom back, but a proper end for Savage would be so great.

Good idea for a thread!
If I'm picking four it's got to be:

.....or at least no more using Sin/Dex as a filler rather give us longer running stories

I'd love to see more Savage but am curious what would work as a finale? Him dying? Some sort of successful expulsion of the Volgans from Britain? And at the same time something that bridges to the opening episodes of Ro-Busters??

Already happened. He's liberating Europe these past few series.

John Smith on anything.

A new series of Brink.

An announcement of a standalone 2000AD Regned title.

Some Wagner Dredd.

Some Oink reprint collections.

Tharg paying Leonardo Manco whatever - whatever - it takes to continue working for 2000AD, even as a cover artist.

That too.

Not sure you'll get anything Oink. Does Rebellion even own much of that? Wasn't it primarily creator-owned?

This is my kind of game!

1) Anything from John Smith!
2) A final book of Savage that finally and fully spills over into the world of Ro-Busters
3) More Brass Sun/Scarlet Traces/Helium/Kingmaker (a recent re-read of a chunk of Edginton's 2000AD output leaves me wanting more of the same)
4) Indigo Prime (with or without Mr Smith)
5) Zombo (Henry Flint working on a special project? Could it be..?)

I am also keen on more Kingmaker but not only for Edginton's script but also for the delightful art of Leigh Gallagher

I'd like to see Ian Edginton wrap up at least one or two of his strips. Any he wants, any he likes (well as long as its not Brass Sun!) so that he can focus on a core number for which he and artists can produce at least one serial every year (give or take).

He's said himself he can get distracted by the shiny new and I fully appreciate that, but I think to facilitiate that it would be great if he was able to provide satisfying conclusions to series that might otherwise be left behind for extended periods, or even for good.

I'd have happily had Red Seas in the Prog for years to come, but in the long run I'm happier that it got a really satisfying conclusion and is now put to bed, well giant ants aside.

More Aquila would be just fine and dandy!!!
Another John Wagner Dredd epic would be equally groovy!!!

I also think Gordon Rennie owes us another chapter of Hunted and Mechastopheles

What I want to see:

Brink
Feral and Foe
The Out (already know book 2 is on its way)
Kingmaker
Diaboliks
Savage (unlikely I guess)
Regular Sinister Dexter
Helium

Plus I guess more Brass Sun but not at the expense of more Brink (assuming Culbard doing the art for both).

What I don't want any more of:
One off (or indeed multi part) Johnny Alpha Strontium Dog stories - just let it go.

I'd love to see more Strontium Dog collections. I enjoyed the Starlord years hardback so much and would love to see similar hardback collected editions of the 2000ad years. Also, the final Strontium Dog story (Son of Wulf) has yet to be collected, a TPB of that to complete the collection would be appreciated.

Keep the Dredd Case Files coming!

And More:
-Kingmaker
-Jaegir (it must be time for a vol.2 tpb?)
-Kingdom

I'm probably in a minority but I love to see a Universal Soldier/Kelly's Eye reprint.

Alphadogau that's a bold request!
I do think it got better with each series, at least, and I have a proper soft spot for Kelly's Eye.

More Mechastopheles, please Tharg. And more Helium.
Oh, and maybe commission a new writer/artist combo to finish off the Savage/Ro-Busters mash-up just so we can get some serious fireworks burning down the UK.

What about New Statesmen by John Smith and Jim Baikie

More Mechastopheles for sure. Another chapter of Jaegir, hopefully. And at the risk of overloading the Rennie droid's circuits, perhaps another chapter of The Alienist..?

More Kingdom would be fantastic, even if it's just a one-shot to tell us what finally happened to Gene.

That's news to me IP - I thought Rebellion had the rights to it, and also didn't know a lot of it was creator owned.

Still trying to complete a collection of the originals - hard to come by without a newsagent scribble on the front cover!

Alas Jim Baikie passed 3 or so years ago. Otherwise this would be a dream. One of my all time favourites.

Does one of the creators passing away really mean 'The New Statesmen' could never be reprinted? (Obviously I am unsure as to rights issues, the law etc).

Some more Wagner Dredd, and Zombo! New Al Ewing in any shape or form.

If Henry Flint draws both, all the better.

SORRY! I got it in my head that was for new material - basically i was a numbnut and yeah a reprint would be fine - you'd guess. Though ownership issues might need sorting with John Smith.

A lovely hardcover of The Complete New Statesmen would be a dream.

If New Statesmen was creator-owned, then surely Third World War would be too?

(Hint: it isn't.)

I may well be taking utter bollocks. I seem to recall reading about issues with Oink rights on comic blogs, but helpfully cannot actually find any of those pieces right now.

EDIT: There's a tiny reference on John Freeman's blog: https://downthetubes.net/?page_id=101053

Because as we know if one strip in a comic is creator owned it means all stripS in that comic are creator owned. Which coursed Tharg such problems when Mazeworld, Buttonman etc ran in the Prog I guess... oh hold on...

Thanks though for the shiny insights as ever Mr Rennie.

There were only two strips in Crisis at the time - 3WW and New Statesmen. Neither of them are creator-owned. Or do you really think a neophyte John Smith would he given a far better deal than Pat Mills and Carlos Ezquerra?

The era of creator-owned deals offered to a few veteran creators on a few very specific projects was still about a decade away.

But, please, continue prattling on about this.

But Mr Rennie dear heart prattling on is what I do so well, so rest assured I will continue to do so. Don't you fret.

Just to be clear I wasn't doubting what you said was right - just commenting on the sour way you present yourself here at times. Which is of course your right. As is prattling, mine.

But I'm quite sure we all have better things to worry about, so shall we move on?

Way back in prog 2123 in Thrills of the Future a new story by Peter Milligan and Rufus Dayglo was mentioned The Devil's Railroad. Do anyone know anything about this if it is going to happen and what is it about? We have not seen Milligan for a few years now.

Another story that was original target for prog 2184 Nakka of the S.T.A.R.S what happened too it as well?

Kingmaker - read the trade of the first 2 parts of the winter break having missed the first one in the prog. It's excellent stuff and is crying out for a continuation.

The Out, Feral & Foe - 2 great new stories from Dan Abnett which I hope we see more of

Scarlet Traces - another trade I read over Christmas which left me desparately wanting more (I also note it was this weeks Thrill Of The Future so looks like it'll be granted).

I hope this strip is based in Raccoon City.
