Y'know, that looks like a fantastic comic that 2000AD.  It's British, right?  And they have five stories in each one?  Every week?!  I think I'll give it a try.

Well, here's to whoever's seen that preview and said something like the above for the first time.

It's always fun to see everybody's entries but those five?  Just plain ruddy fabulous and so clearly deserving.  Top hole.  Top drawer.  Top stuff, all.  I'm already hoping to see what the winners might enter in the next one.

1 - Dark Jimbo - The Balls Brothers - I didn't but now I might...
2 - Malicious - Maniac 5 - Word Bubbelicious
3 - Woolly - The Mind of Wolfie Smith - Not a major strip for me but that's damn tasty.

HM - Professor James T Bear - Helltrekkers for the Dino-Gila Mayhem Factor.  Thank Grud they're not in a mopad.

Thanks to CrazyFoxMachine for chaperoning at the dance.  Not to mention all the entrants.  There's been a lot of pleasure in seeing these exercises in what was, what almost was and what yet might return.

Real toppest of drawerest stuff with that Maniac 5, Malicious.  I feel a Prog-dig coming on.

Radwagons Ho, Professor.  :)  Get those Gila Munja bastards, wagon 55!

Fun theme that I couldn't resist cluttering up with some of my tat.

Well, a bloke can daydream, can't he?  (Even if all the survivors of the original strip probably got eaten by those pesky zombies during Judgement Day...)

1 - Zarjazzer - Burning Point - Sharp as the teeth in it.  Plus, you big Fargo-tease, you.
2 - The Enigmatic Dr X - Spider - They always do, but where can they go?
3 - Temponaut - Smile - Trifecta's Lost Chapter!  (I doubt he smiled so much with McGruder, though...)

HM - Emp - The Heart of the Matter

Nemesis T W Orlock

Winner

Seconded!  Although, I had previously thought Orlok was no more likely a surname as his codename for the Block Mania mission that stuck when referring to him.

Ray Manzarek of The Doors, aged 74.

I remember being fascinated by the way The Doors didn't bother getting in a bass player because Manzarek could handle it on keyboards - and thereby become IMHO one of the most iconic bassists ever simply by sitting on his arse and twiddling his fingers.  Genius.

If I had it to hand I would scan a couple of pages and upload them, but I living out of boxes at the moment.

Better than living in them.  :)
With you on that side of the Buscema/Kirby divide, mind you.  Seen some of that black and white Conan work over the years and it's just plain grand.

As for Dredd, I can't ever seem to pull myself out of the orbit of Dillon when it comes to diving into the back-issues and back-progs, though I'm developing a rekindled liking for Alex Ronald's stuff on Dredd.

Judge Dredd / Green Arrow - though I suppose the character un-chemistry might be a bit too on the nose.

Actually, scrap that.  JamesC had me with Captain America, enthusiastic convention beatings notwithstanding.

Does the penny roll uphill?
Often trotted out when money was tight and one of us kids wanted whatever latest extravagance we'd seen in the shops.  Or on telly.  Or being played with or worn by other kids.  Or advertised in, oh, say, a comic...

Gibson cover, curvy logo and now signed by Pat Mills, mine was Prog 361.  First part of Dragonheist in Slaine, Rogue Trooper (looking amazingly like Kirk Douglas on the first page) was continuing with You Only Die Twice, Tharg The Mighty was kicking Sol-Darkk's reptilian arse and my first introduction to Judge Dredd was the 3rd part of The Haunting of Sector House Nine.  Reading through it again for this, I was surprised to note that it only has four strips in it and one of them (Rogue) is only four pages long.  But, hey, it was thrillpower and it was enough to get me hooked.
Plus, any comic for a nearly-ten year old that includes dragons hunting and eating terrified peasants, psi-animated undead obscenities snapping some poor bastard's neck, injured judges flinging themselves to their deaths and telekinetic soldier clones blowing bad guys' shit up with flying guns...  Well, I wanted more.  I still want more.  MORE!!!

(Didn't cut out the Rogue Trooper action figure, though.  Even then, that was just plain sacrilege.)
