Film Discussion / Re: Rogue Trooper?
« on: 07 October, 2011, 01:47:18 PM »
I would go with the war and start up of the GI's being explained before the titles. When the titles start we are in the mission brief for the drop onto the Quartz Zone, as the directors name is on screen we watch Rogue strap into his drop pod, then fade to black and silence.

A couple of seconds later we open up with explosions and fire as the drop pods enter the atmosphere. From then on it's action all the way, till the end.

The ending could be the reveal about the traitor general, leading up to a sequel

That's not bad, but would like the opening with first time we read first prog of Rogue Trooper as we arrived at the planet, Nu-Earth, where a perpetual war between the Norts and Southers is being fought... and a person appears, as below;

And the pod drop sequence could be shown as flashbacks during the movie, I really do hope this gets made as it's been a long time coming :)

Great work judge p,and all the best m8 :)

Thanks, I hope to restart the build in the new year so I can have the costume finished for when the movie comes out.

Great job so far, though I have to admit the first thing I thought when I saw it was Dredd's line from the start of The Pit - "Who're you - the werewolf?"

Sadly i've had to put the costume build on hold for now as I have had to move house due to my partner ending our relationship  :'( , I will bounce back once I have everything sorted and have my own place. Speak to you again soon  :)

Excellent work JP!  :)

Thanks for all your great comments, I started prop making in 2007 as i've always had an interest in movie costumes/props and how they are made. I taught myself how to make stuff by researching the internet, using the materials and using the old noggin. Having the time/funds and patience help of course when doing this sort of thing  :)

That's brilliant, and I love it and I want one. But- in that second picture, I really thought you'd gone completely mental and put a shark's fin on top of the helmet... until I realised it was your door frame. This in turn immediately put that song from the Deep Blue Sea soundtrack, "My head looks like a shark's fin" into my mind, and now I can't get rid, and I KNOW that tonight when herself goes to bed I will be watching that particular film- again. So thanks for that.

Lol, your welcome Steev!

Arrest that Jimp!

Amazing work. You could be Karl Urbans stunt double.

Or stubble double.

Good start on the helmet!

I wouldn't mind being Karl Urbans stunt or stubble double  :)

Amazing work. I agree with another poster that it is probably a little more curvaceous at the very bottom/back, but it still looks great and above all practical! I was wondering if you were going to add the two ridges along the top and I see you have. When I saw these on the Empire pics it looked to me like they might line up with the edges beneath the visor and I wondered if they were going to make the whole top section slide down rather than just the badge. I'm still not sure if that's why they're there or if the ridges are just aesthetic.

Thanks for posting and I look forward to seeing more pics.

It does indeed seem as if the two ridges one on each side were added later to give the impression that the whole section would slide down to be used as a respirator as it is in the comics. If you look at the pics of the original sculpt the ridges are not on there so I can only assume the prop guys added it on set/or before filming started after consultations with producers/designers etc.

As of today I have made a silicone mold (with support jacket) and am currently pouring/brushing resin into the mold in order to make another helmet. I'll paint it up and post some more pics up when i'm done. :)

Here are some pics of the finished helmet build with the visor temporarily fitted, a silicone mold will be taken from this then a finished resin cast produced. This may need a little more sanding and cleaning up then it's ready for painting, just need to find the right colours that were used for the movie helmets.  Enjoy the pics:)

Michaelvk could you help me out on what colours you used to paint up the helmets, thanks!

Simon, what is the helmets base as the colour looks familiar!

Will you be doing a blog, as was mentioned before the great week of post removal.

The helmet is part of a Iron Man mask/helmet I picked on ebay and have used before as a base for my last helmet. I really need to take a mold of the helmet as it is at some stage so when I make a cast of it I have something to work from when making future helmets. The front of the mask just clips on so is easy to remove, I then take the ear pieces off and trim the pieces hanging down on either side of the helmet. The ear holes need to be filled in then sanded smooth to line up with the helmet itself. I've included a pic of how the entire helmet looks and a pic of when I started and finished my stallone hero helmet to give you an idea what goes into it. I will probably set up a blog sometime in the week  :)
I have tried sculpting a helmet using Klean Klay but it's bloody difficult getting equal curves either side of the helmet, more practice is needed me thinks  :)

Thanks for your comments Michaelvk, from a man that's seen the helmets as well as worked on them it's a positive boost receiving your input :) Sent you a PM.

Thanks for your nice comments guys!

Is it Fibre glass or some secret concotion your using Judge Palmer? Looks like the helmet drawn by Ian Gibson and very convincing too even in this unfinished state!

IAMTHESYSTEM: I'm using Jesmonite resin, it's water based (no nasty smells/brushes rinse out easily) and when cured is hard and strong. You can use fibreglass matting in conjunction with it also to give it added strength. I'm going to craft the helmet badge/respirator over the weekend then once it's all sanded smooth i'll take a mold using silicone then cast the finished piece from that. Fingers crossed it wont need anymore sanding so I can get it painted up although i'm undecided at the mo whether to give the helmet a worn and weathered look as it is in the movie pics released thus far.

At James: Lol, I didn't realise I had the cassette box in the background, my mother in law's partner sent me a rock compilation recently (he is in his 70's and listens to Radio Caroline) as a thank you for locating an old 1957 black and white movie on dvd (A Strangers Meeting) which features his grandfather in a small cameo part. He has no problem operating a dvd player but can't use a mobile and prefer's to listen to music on the radio and record it on to cassette, luckily I have an old stero with a cassette player attached so was able to listen to it. Certainly was weird playing a cassette again as the last tape I played was at least 20+ years ago.

At Joe: Whats wrong with Huey Lewis and Phil Collins lol, thinking of that reminds me of the movie American Psycho with Christian Bale in a rain mac going crazy with an axe :)
