Help! / colour format question
10 April, 2005, 06:34:29 PM
A comic page can be described as black & white or colour.

Is there a technical term for black & white art that has a very limited use of colour, such as Shakara's use of red or some episodes of Young Middenface (where sound effects were sometimes coloured)?

Prog / Prog 1433... Rawhide Rex!

Groovy cover - that vampire cowboy might pull in the goth punters.

Descent is gorgeous, of course, but it seemed a bit 'neat' that JD just happened to have a silver-bladed boot knife with him (until I realised that it's a reference back to Meg 4.05).

Sinister Dexter throws in an interesting concept (the island) that's been used a couple of times before in MC-1 (Whitey's island prison and that one where the down and outs are searching for the fabled treasure zone).

American Gothic totally over-turned my assumptions about what it was going to be about.  Great stuff, mixing werewolves, vampires, ogres and "there was an old yagga that lived in a shoe".

Also enjoying The VCs, with it's change of tack to a sort of Eastenders meets Private Benjamin approach.

And...oh my god - they've turned Nikolai Dante into a musical (sort of)...as predicted on this very board.

Letters:  I'm glad they printed Floyds one in support of the board - I had sent in my own retraction to my previous letter but Tharg chose not to print it.  Still, my effervescent butterflies got through the net, so it's all good.

General / Funniest Lines In 2000AD

Here's one:

"Us feudin', fightin', feedin', funnin', flatin' McCoys is meaner than a 'gator on a spike."

General / Fantasy Line Up...
29 March, 2005, 06:24:50 PM
If YOU were editor of 2000AD, what would your fantasy line up of thrills be?

(Assuming 5 core thrills per prog.)

Here's mine:

Judge Dredd:  "The Taking Of Black Atlantic Tunnel Zoom 123"
ABC Warriors: "AWOL"
Ukko The Thief:  "The Wilderness Years"
Family:  "Origins"
Nikolai Dante:  "Usurper"

(Droid Life:  "Downtime")

General / Has 2000AD Taken Retro Too Far?
29 March, 2005, 05:10:54 AM
I've nicked this question from another thread, but what does everyone think:

Should 2000AD continue to re-invent past thrills (Robohunter, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog, The VC's, Invasion), shore up long running thrills (Nikolai Dante, Sinister Dexter, Slaine) or concentrate on fresher characters (The Read Seas, Lobster Random, Caballistics)?

General / Who's Got A 100% Hit Rate?
22 March, 2005, 08:04:38 PM
I've nabbed this question from the "Mark Millar" thread.

In 2000AD and the Megazine, whose output (art or script) has been consistently good?  Never a duff moment?

General / Talking of Johnny Alpha being gay...
17 March, 2005, 08:48:58 PM
...isn't there a line in an early 2000AD (circa early 200's?) where one of the baddies says to Alpha something along the lines of:

"Rot your eyes, Alpha, you boned me!"

(I don't even want to get into Wulf...so to speak.)

Help! / comic sleeves?
15 March, 2005, 04:19:46 AM
Anyone know where to buy 2000AD / Meg sized (clear plastic) comic sleeves from?

(Online, that is.)

I've googled but no joy.

Website and Forum / missing publications

First of all, the index of publications on this site is utterly superb.

Am I missing them, or are the Crisis & Revolver specials missing from the list?

Revolver Horror Special
Crisis Presents
- 1: The Revolver Romance Special
- 2: The Xpresso Special
- 3: The Second Xpresso Special

#1 Whenever Judge Dredd falls from a great height he will either be rescued by an H-Wagon or perform a seemingly impossible physical feat.

#2 People that shoot at Sinister Dexter were trained at the "Stormtrooper Marksmanship School" and are generally incapable of actually hitting them, especially if they use an automatic weapon.

Help! / Which came first...?
13 March, 2005, 05:23:51 PM
I've been curious about this since I was a sprog, but which came first, the toy or the comic version:

Help! / Status of Mega-City Two?
12 March, 2005, 02:58:06 AM
I know MC-2 was nuked out of existance by Dredd during the Judgement Day debacle, but wasn't it rebuilt at some point later?

Help! / Email gets copied to me?

Is that right that when you send someone a mail on this site, you automatically get sent a copy of it, or did I just accidentally send myself an email?

My vote:  Moon Runners.

General / Longest Ever Story Title?
04 March, 2005, 05:47:47 PM
[SPOILERS FOR PROG 1428]

The title for the latest Nikolai Dante story ("How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been A Liar All My Life") got me thinking - is that the longest title ever in 2000AD?

Prog 506 had the Judge Dredd story "They Shoot Deejays, Don't They? (Or At Least They Ought To!)" - which might be the second longest.

Website and Forum / html tags
04 March, 2005, 03:53:13 PM
I see that anchor, bold, italics and img tags work just fine in the context of a "post", but I tried an ordered list out, and it did render the line spacing but not the list numbering or indentation.

Just wondering what will work and what won't?
