Russell Crowe would be absolutely perfect for Harry Exton.  Right age, right build, oozes menace and if the newspapers broke a story that he was working for a Voice in real life, you'd be able to believe it.

Does anyone else here have mental (and sometimes vocal) arguments with the grammar checker in MS Word?

And then there was swapping out 5 disks to watch the "getting fired out of the cannon" animation on Secret Of Monkey Island.

I was too busy playing Eye Of The Beholder, SWIV, Whizkid, Gods, Fire & Ice...

I remember reading about Battle Isles in Amiga Power - the magazine with attitude!  I loved that they used to give really shite games a score of 3%.  Ah, when I was young etc.

With you there, Amstor.  I don't know what the profit margins are like for making simple 2D games for the handheld market (be it mobiles or mini-consoles) but the production costs and complexities of implementation are lower.

Let's face it - any battle for a piece of the latest 3D cutting-edge graphics market is going to be exactly that:  a battle.

There are so many things from the 2K-verse that could be turned into really playable 2D games - and doesn't Advance Wars prove that there's a market out there?

(And yes, the key thing about Advance Wars, Panzer General, Civilisation et al is that at their core, they are finely tuned games, despite their apparent simplicity.  Time and skill needs to be directed to the game design.)

Reason for asking:

I'm toying with the idea of a simple JD game along the same lines as Advance Wars / Panzer General et al.

It could feature units such as:

Manta Prowl Tank
Lawmaster (squad)
H-Wagon
Pat Wagon
Strato-V
Radsweeper
Holocaust Squad
Dune Sharks
T-Rex

(and so on)

Help! / Name of tactical wargame?
12 January, 2006, 05:48:49 PM
Okay - I'm trying to find out the name of a (relatively) new (ie last 1-3 years) tactical turn-based wargame.

Clues:
- it was playable on a handheld device (one of the handheld consoles, not a mobile phone).
- there was a thread on this message board talking about how everyone really enjoyed playing it.
- I think it was top down view.
- I think the units are contemporary but fictional (ie tanks, copters etc) but they may have been slightly futuristic - not sure.
- It's in the same mould (rules and tactics) as Panzer General.

It's at times like those that I feel like going and living by subsistence farming in a log-cabin in some remote locale, totally off the grid.

But then...

Whilst it may be just in need of a System Clean-Up and a Defrag, it sounds like a virus to me (unless you have a particularly low-end comp).
