OK, I can see this isn't going to work but, I'll persevere.
Can we come up with a few simple "rules" for behavious on the board? That way we can ask Wake to make people agree to them when registering and we won't have all this sc*j*/newbie hating stuff going on?
1. Irony is very difficult to identify from written text.
2. Please try and learn to spell/ use proper grammar, I'm sure English is most people heres first language
3. Spend a quick moment to check the content of your message before posting it.
4. Don't rattle Johnnyeyebrows' cage unless you want bitten
5. Don't mention the war.
6. Remember to consider the "subject" heading of your message before posting.
7. Don't randomly post pics/links/etc. without introducing yourself first.
8. etc....
Is this a good idea/bad idea?
Actually to be frank I don't care what you think so :P to you all! Especially Wils coz he smells of wee!
I'd add that if someone specific is annoying you it's probably best to just block their messages rather than get into a protracted argument with them. you can do this by entering the chatroom and typing:
/kill username
Where "username" is the name of the user you wish to block.
i agree
Give people the benefit of the doubt unless they've made it completely obvious that they mean to annoy/offend.
This should apply to boarders you know as well as new boarders.
If you make a mistake apologise.
Listen to what other people say.
i am truly sorry.
and i find sorry the hardest word to say
I object to number 8.
;)
"i am truly sorry.
and i find sorry the hardest word to say"
If you truly are then dont post unless you have something that needs to be said.
Posting "i agree" above adds nothing constructive and annoys others.
You've posted nine threadsand over 100 messages since joining. When I joined I posted 1 thread and about 5 messages.
If you truly are sorry then I welcome you to the board and look forward to hearing your opinions. If you mess around and agitate people then you wont last long.
Thats all I have to say.
Jared.
Good idea, just as long as it doesn't get too facist... :)
Do we have any T&C's that have to be agreed to I can't remember now... ?
i think we should learn from the basic rules
of comunism but not actually use comunism itself.
Do we have any T&C's
I've a feeling it might be 'Don't act like a cunt'.
;)
Oh.
I'll be off, then...
i think a rule should be were not aloud to use the word c#nt my mum taught me this is the worst word in the english launguage.
"I'm sure English is most people heres first language"
That should be "I'm sure most people here's first language is English"
Or where you being ironic...;-)
Oh and the winking smiling can flag a joke for the hard of humour but don't use as a 'get out of jail free card' for abuse
Oh and the golden rule of any message board is lurk for a while before posting....
You only object to number 8?? Christ, I'll have trouble with most of 'em. I can't spell for tofee (sic). my grammar is bad (and i'm too old to learn), If I lose Irony (and sarcasm) i'm stumped, I don't have long enough breaks to double check posts (I usually post from work), and half the time I forget to put a subject heading at all!
Help!! :)
Mind you, I don't know how to post pics so's I should be safe there! ;)
Oh, and Johnny's a pussycat. :)
Alan!
Johnny's a pussycat
Half right.
I suppose it's too much to hope that you think I'm a cat?
Treacherous bastard!
;)
I`d suggest a simple list of do`s and don`ts that can be sent to new people. The board runs pretty well the way it is, but there`s no reason why new people should have a clue about net etiquette, so a simple advisory email might be a good idea...Things like
- lurk for a while before posting
- just killfile people you can`t stand
- don`t be a bastard
- label your post (eg Spoiler, Off topic) etc before starting a new thread
and so on....that`s my idea
good idear i would have foun that helpful.
and im shure people would in the future to.
Oh and the golden rule of any message board is lurk for a while before posting....
well I broke that pretty quickly. I posted on the first thread I read. One of Bou's, something about pewter.
'Don't act like a cunt'
? What lay on my side, purse my lips in a provocative way and recite shakespeare?
This killfile business, how do you know someone has kill filed you?
PERSONALLY I don't see we need to have these rules but I'll go with a majority decition if thre is one.
It seems like there wasn't talk of 'rules' until someone showed a need for rules to be shared with them. I think normal rules of social engagement apply. and common sense. Spelling though? I'm skrewed!
I don't like the idea of rules per se but there's no problem having a few guidelines. There could be a link to them near the 'post message' buttons.
Take a look at the guidelines suggested for the 2000AD Yahoo group

Excessive vulgar language is unacceptable.
That's half the board gone for starters.
>Excessive vulgar language is unacceptable.
Fuck off!
Excessive vulgar language is unacceptable
Is "Excessive vulva language acceptable"?
Never mind the bad language- off topic posts are to be kept to a minimum?!? The place would be dead- or at least in a very deep coma...
;)
Fuck.
You're all pretty uninventive, aren't you?
Cock rings and fanny batter.
Couldn't agree more.
STOP FUCKING SWEARING YOU TWAT FACES!
It's rude, immature and makes you look like a dick-headed turd fondler.
"makes you look like a dick-headed turd fondler."
Left: a dick-headed turd fondler, yesterday.
I actually find swearing a bit annoying. There's a time and a place for everything but this whole "I'm swearing because I'm angry/cool" attitude is a bit tedious. Creative swearing is better and made up swear words are best.
Ass-spelunkers.
For the first time ever, I agree with Jared Atchoo-ie.
Swearing is great, but only when used properly and creatively.
You willy warmers.
- Trout
Yes and despite all that, I'm *still* the best looking boarder.
I thought that was me?
My insult of the week, which has a peculiar mix of non-aggression, quaintly schoolboyish overtones, a pleasant "rolls-off-the-tongue" syntax and a catalogue of uses, is:
Nobber. (pronounced thus: "NOB-uh.")
Try it. It's very liberating.
Used it in the chat only yesterday. It's a top word.
Yes, it sounds great.
But shouldn't it be spelled with a "k"?
Knobber.
Spurrier, you're both a knobber and a spadger!
- Trout
Spadger-baiter.
"Excuse me darling, I'm just off with the lads for a spot of spadger-baiting."
Hey! The spadger's definately mine!
Depends whether you want the Cocksmokers and Shitehawks to start pronouncing it Kuhnobber, your royal Flangeism.
....although thinking about it, Kuhnobber isn't too bad either. Maybe a rare sub-strain of Nobber hailing from the North, which deludes itself with Megalomaniacal Icthyoid fantasies?
Henceforth all Writers and Journalists are to be known as Wordshitters, all so-called artists are designated Pensnafflers, all fans are Zeitsplurgers, and talentless bastards are to be named Johnny Eyebrows.
"Henceforth all Writers and Journalists are to be known as Wordshitters, all so-called artists are designated Pensnafflers, all fans are Zeitsplurgers, and talentless bastards are to be named Johnny Eyebrows."
Sounds good to me, but it means half the message board will be operating with the same username.
You winnit-plucker.
- His Royal flangeism
Oi si don't be such a Wordshitters
Max
The biggest, hairiest honkey Zeitsplurgers in London
Flange? Oooh, I like a bit of flange, me.
Look at the size of these flanges!
That's a lorra lorra flange.
Left: a dick-headed turd fondler, yesterday.
Well that at least explains DXB's expression in that photo.
"talentless bastards are to be named Johnny Eyebrows"
Pfff... this from the man who's very name is synonymous with the phrase, "rampant paranoia".
They all say it, you know...
i hate rules, but in loo of common sense i guess we have to have them.
but i suggest we deal with problems in the same way i do at work, get very angry silently, pull faces behind the irritants back, moan & whinge & back stab to other people, whilst maintaining a front of surly, snappy terse replys... oh yeah & the rolling eyes in front of other people, yes the mature open approach, solves all my social problems.
spelling ? oh pleeeeese !
swearing ? cant cant cant CANT !
"cant cant cant CANT"
That's a bit strong, Bou.
Even I didn't use that word!
- Trout
cant cant cant CANT !
I agree with Wake.
He doesn't smell of wee, unlike certain evil-tomato-iconed boarders who I could name.
As for excessive swearing, just pick up a copy of the latest Viz for a selection of entertaining euphemisms.
You bunch of flangebaskets!!
Crivens!! I've just checked koom-skree

2000AD MESSAGE BOARD (Demon Chicken)

It's taken me 3 years to get up as high as 510!!!
DC fears the coming of people who are surgically bonded to computer hardware ala cyberman stylee
I'm not suggesting that the guidelines for posting on an email list are necessarily appropriate for a message board.
Cheers,
Wake
i think some guidelines might be good.
before that.. can i get some stuff off my chest then:
f*ck b*ll*cks *rse w*nk*r
thank you, very cathartic.
Don't think rules or guidelines are really needed, mostly we seem to sort things out ourselves after a bit.
'Ceptin o course when folks come inta town with that liberal, stalinist, pinko, commie, subversives with bad teeth kinda talk. Then its lynchin' time.
Insults next.
Spunkbubble - wonderful descripter for any dozy sod around, as in "Ho! Spunkbubble! Shut that fuckin door ye left liein' open at yer arse."
Cuntlugs - anatomically improbable but high effective attention getter as in "You! Aye you cuntlugs. Get off yir backside and get some work done."
cuntlugs.. i like.. similar usage to bastardass.
as in,
Come on bastardass, we need it now not dreckly.
