Having been a few days, I thought I'd officially share the news here with you guys.

This last weekend a good friend of mine who was at the very heart of the Dredd fabrication team, tragically took his own life after battling depression. Julian Brits was a hard rocking, straight talking guy with a huge heart. He was always the life of the party and never failed to make you laugh. He was immensely talented and a genius who would make the most of the tools and materials available to make things happen. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

When I was in South Africa he, along with the rest of the CFX crew, was part of my family, as I was out there on my own.

The world has lost a truly unique individual and is poorer for it.

Arrived home this evening and as I'm parking the Landy I notice it's sounding off.. Like something is loose under the bonnet.. snip

Fan-fucking-tasting.

I hear you man, the amount of bad luck my family and friends had with cars....did you have it for long?

3 months or so.. Thing that annoys me most is that I had told them about The Leaky Thing and they did bugger all about it, telling me it's fine.. I had one go on me before, but as these guys were highly recommended by two colleagues, I took it in good faith they knew what they were doing.. So I'm not sure if it was proper incompetence, general indifference or they didn't feel like being told how to do their job by some English sounding long haired twat.. Either way, I'm having to put a 'new' engine in my beloved Land Rover. Don't get me started on the massive inconvenience of not having my own vehicle.. Yes, I probably should've known better and should've checked the oil level more dilligently, but when it's not pumping black smoke out the back and isn't leaking, then there's no reason for me to worry if they've assured me it's not leaking anymore..As it turns out it wasn't leaking because there was no sodding oil in it..

Arrived home this evening and as I'm parking the Landy I notice it's sounding off.. Like something is loose under the bonnet.. Jump out, open it up with the engine running, can't immediately see anything, but definitely notice a klonking noise coming from somewhere down below.. Can't be good..

Go up to the flat, google.. YouTube.. Dinner.. Bit more google.. Everything's pointing to a knackered big end bearing.. Aaaahhhh fuck.. Go back down stairs armed with a torch and start pushing and prodding bits that've bolted to the engine.. Nope. Everything's tight. I have a look underneath. Can't see anything.. Wait.. Is that.. Oil? Ffs.. Follow the oil trail up to: vacuum pump. The very same vacuum pump I told the garage was leaking. The garage assured me all was fine with it and it really didn't need replacing, but an oil breather hose needed to be swapped.. Mkay, well, there's no more leaks now, so I guess they mended it. Clearly not. I check the oil level and it's FUCKING EMPTY! The leaking vacuum pump must've clearly pissed it all out. There was apparently just enough in there to keep the pressure light from coming on, but not enough to stop something in the bowels (my money's on the big end and crank shaft bearings) from eating itself.. God only knows how long it's not had enough oil (it had a service not even 6500km/4000m ago!). Tomorrow it was going to have its timing belt replaced.. Now it's going to have a timing belt, vacuum pump as well as bearings replaced. NOT at the same garage, of course..

Fan-fucking-tasting.

Interestingly, the thing still ran beautifully, had plenty of power and wasn't smoking excessively. Land Rover deserve a lot of praise regarding the 300tdi engine..

Incidentally, when I asked them to look at the injectors I got a " nah, some are louder than others.." Changed 'em myself. They looked like they had been buried in the garden for months from all the gasses blowing past them..

Just back from it..

People of Metropolis.. Everything is bon!

It was a pretty awesome movie, though the action scenes between the kryptonians seemed almost like a cross between Michael Bay's transformers and an episode of Dragonball Z.. I found it a bit hard to keep tabs on what exaxtly was happening. It was sort of turned up to 11 all the time, which'll ultimately ended up boring me towards the end. There's only so many buildings a guy can be hurled through without any physical consequences and still make it interesting.

Meh.. Was alright overall.. My girlfriend and I had a lovely moment when we both said "no capes!"
