Title: D.I.C.E. 2014
Post by: Link Prime on 19 June, 2014, 01:17:53 PM
Time to get the ball rolling on this years Dublin International Comics Expo, taking place this September 27th & 28th.

https://www.facebook.com/dublincomicexpo

No 'big names' this year like Snyder & Capullo, but still several creators that merit my interest, such as;

Kieron Gillen
Stephen Mooney
Becky Cloonen
Declan Shalvey

A strong 2000AD presence as previously, and I've been reliably informed that Molch-R will have an official 2000AD stand this year too.

Droids confirmed so far;
Clint Langley
Mike Carroll
Simon Parr
Si Spurrier
PJ Holden
John McCrea
Mike Molcher

Looking forward to it immensely, I've really enjoyed the last two.

I'm hoping to head down to this too. Time, money and laziness should be my only barriers!!

Judgerussell - hopefully your kit won't all come off this time. Or, rather, hopefully it will !!! ;)
I'll tuck a fiver in your belt.

Better get that snap of you 'pretending' to beat me to death with a Daystick before the stripping starts!

Hope to see you there chaps- and hopefully you do get a table David, I've no doubt your excellent products will enjoy brisk trade.

I'll be there again this year, might even do a second day.
It's a fantastic con and I would highly recommend it to anyone even thinking about going this year.

Just got the weekly email from The Big Bang, David.
They'll be registering all small press / exhibitor tables starting from next week.
Email them on Wednesday 9th July (info@thebigbang.ie) if you're interested in getting an application form.

Ticket, transport and hotel have been booked. I'll be doing the two days so it will hopefully be less of a rush then the last few years. It'll hopefully be a good night too, depending on the All Ireland result.

They have also announced that it will have The World Exclusive Early Release is DEPARTMENT OF MONSTEROLOGY VOL 1 TP!

I don't think I will make it for the weekend, ended up working Saturday so maybe Sunday. I didn't book a table, I have two more collections due, but I don't think I will have them out in time, I didn't want to take the chance of have nothing on a table!
So Sunday lightly pencilled in.

Gav & Zen- nice one.
David- shame about the table, but at least you could be making an appearance on Sunday.

I had thought about arranging a social gathering in a pub alright (especially since Zen has made such a success of it up North), so yeah- why not?
I'd really like to suggest The Harbour Bar, 15 minutes done the road in Bray (one of the best boozers in the world IMHO), but taxis would be required for that.
We could stay local in Dundrum- Ryan's in the village is probably the best of the bunch- I had a pint there with Pat Mills once!

Open to suggestions....and participants.

It looks like they have "the Candlelight Bar" in Dundrum organised from 8PM onwards, so most of the guests will probably be there. Not sure what it's like, but it dose look quite fancy.

Also the 2000ad Panel is on at 12 on Sunday with Molcher, Langley, Carroll, Holden and Parr

Really? Ugh.
Grand for a quiet pre / post meal drink with a dinner guest, but as a post-convention venue?
Bit of a bizarre choice by Big Bang there.
I'll throw a bid in for Ryan's accross the road; https://www.facebook.com/dundrumhse

Maybe after 9pm? We'll see who we can drag over for a few (admittedly decent) pints of The Black Stuff in preference of Mojitos, mirrors and posing.

PS- I'll be there on the Sunday too, David.

Tharg has kindly given me permission to do a short print run (25) of a Dredd / Anderson piece I did - so I'll have that at the convention if you're interested!

Only available at the con, I'm afraid...

One day we'll be there.

Are you on about DICE or the next con in general?
I'm sure there are far more English / Scottish boarders than those that hail from the Emerald Isle.
Looking for an excuse to come over on the lash, are yis?

Shame you wont be making it this year David, looks like its gonna be a lot of fun.
Saturday is a definite for me, but Sunday is looking cloudy (and therefore Saturday night drinking too).
I might just have to cram as much as possible into the Saturday, we'll see.

Would dearly love to attend the 2000AD panel on Sunday though...

PS- I want one of those prints, PJ!

All the panels are being recorded, so you'll get a chance to see it in a week or two if you miss it on Sunday, Link.

A futurequake presence would fit perfectly at DICE and hopefully we'll see that sometime soon.

I will hopefully be there sometime around midday tomorrow, so I'm sure I will see a few of ye over the weekend.

I had an exceptionally good time today- great new venue for DICE, top guests, and the weather held up- a distinctly beautiful sunny September day.

Personal highlight- Clint Langley remembered to bring the ABC Warriors page I was hounding him over (stashed under his seat for me). A pleasure to shoot the breeze with him- he's a gent, and hugely enthusiastic about working for 'Tooth even after two decades.
Clint cleaned me out at nearly €300 worth of art, prints and a stunner of a Slaine sketch (pics to follow at some stage), so my last few bob were spent on PJ's great Dredd print and early release copies of Monsterology 101 & the new Moon Knight trade.

Also had a good chat with Mike Carroll, Si Spurrier & John McCrea- gentlemen all.
Nice to meet up with Gavin Leahy Block again, and a humidity stricken Judge Russell- who's probably grabbing 10 well deserved minutes on a sleep machine as I type.

Pain in the arse that I couldn't stay for drinks tonight (I promised Clint a Guinness  :-[) or attend tomorrow, but sure what can ye do?

Roll on 2015.

I'm just about recovered from a fantastic weekend at DICE. It was nice catching up with everyone again, having a chat with a few new people and getting a few sketches too (pictures will come later today). The change of venue was great too and the fact that it was free access to the bottom floor, where all the small press people were, was a really wonderful idea.
Personal highlights include, The 2000ad panel, seeing Clint Langley work, Mike Carroll's T-shirts and Molcher's Becky Cloonan impersonation.
