This is well worth reading.

It was printed in 1947 and its interesting that 64 years later its still relevent to the US as i noticed quite a few comparisons to what is going on in the US today like schools and govt undermining the authority of parents and the growth of the Fedral Gubnment that assumes authority over the Constitution and children snitching on their parents etc etc and the use of problem reaction solutions and divide and rule tactics.

Its all in there.

Are you serious? This is just McCarthyist madness. Surely no-one could be fooled by such obvious cold war propaganda.

Except for frothing anti-communists who buy into every tiny piece of propaganda offered up by a state which perpetrates exactly the same crimes against humanity as nut-jobs like Lenin, Stalin and Pol Pot- only it chooses to do it in other peoples countries rather than their own which, of course, makes it perfectly acceptable ('anyone but me is fine').
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

I am perfectly serious but i am not suggesting that anything that is happening in the US is as simple as there being a handful of Communists subverting the US that are being directed by the Kremlin as its far more complicated than that but its more an observation on the various tricks that are being openly used to manipulate the electorate of the US by its present administration as well as other things that for the sake of not wanting to turn this thread into a debate and to keep my reply short i wont go into.

Its not about being fooled by anything as i am making comparisons.

I study politics/propaganda and i know my subject.

Here we go again  ::).

No its not "Here we go again  ::)" at all is its just a thread that i started showing a damned comic that i thought might be of interest as its a comic forum along with one short comment and NOT for the purpose of starting a debate about politics.

Has the topic of the comic as a medium for political propaganda been discussed here anywhere ?

I dont think it has so thats something that could be talked about or is that somehow wrong to the point where you have to roll your eyes upwards at it ??

If you dont like it then dont read it.  ::)

You know Peter - you're the only person on this forum I've been tempted to tell 'shut the fuck up'.

So shut the fuck up.

Your OP isn't inviting a discussion on politics? Reread it, please.

And you're right, I shouldn't have even commented on this thread but I couldn't - because there's not much in that comic that relevant to REAL LIFE America. Had you said we have Fascist leanings, sure, I'd give you that because I've actually taken issue with a few of what I deem as our 'shrinking rights'. But Communism in America? Sorry, no. It would never happen, not with our Rich having way too much to lose. Here we go again  ::).

Edit: I want to apologize for the above post, though I will leave it up. I don't want to sound like I can't stomach someone voicing an opinion about the country I'm from - and 99.9 percent of the time on this forum I know it's good-natured and I take no offense whatsoever - however now and then something like this pops up, a topic that seems almost blatantly antagonizing (and maybe it wasn't meant that way) and LEADING towards bashing. Sure, I might seem sensitive...but anyone who knows my personal background and what my wife 'stands for' at the moment knows this isn't the case.

Carry on.

Peter, you may think you didn't intend to start a debate about politics, but your comment "quite a few comparisons to what is going on in the US today" was the tin opener stuck into the seal of the can labelled 'worms inside.'

It's an incredibly leading OP.

I have or will be reporting this thread and requesting that it is either removed or it is locked because it was NOT my intent to start this up because its more fucking aggravation than its worth and i am sick of it.

If the moderators decide otherwise as its their call not mine then feel free to continue and do what you like but you can count me out.

That is all.

I really like the whole "OMG Obama is a Marxist!" thing right now, because it shows how utterly crazy some people are. Politically, he roughly aligns with the British Conservatives. That he's 'left' of a certain number of what British would consider hardline right-wingers (Republicans) and extremist right-wingers (Tea Party) doesn't suddenly make him a socialist any more than David Cameron is a socialist because he's left of UKIP.

The US wherever possible eschews any kind of left-leaning law and societal effects, from the government level down to the individuals. There is, essentially, no such thing as the left in that country (and, sadly, increasingly the same is happening in the UK).

That's a matter of opinion-  no offence intended. Sure, you know some stuff but I for one find your political opinions to be blinkered, biased and (as has been pointed out to you before and not just by me) often ill-informed and contradictory. My best mate is a hard-line communist and in a political debate he'd chew you up and spit you out man, seriously. Whenever we meet up politics are off the menu.

I'm not about to get into another pointless political debate here- it's terminally dull, but I just can't let a biased and ill thought out comment like that drive by without at least a balancing comment. Sure there are many parallels to draw between the effects of the right and the left but they aren't the same thing.

Still though, the comic was hilarious taken for what it is (bullshit propaganda) and I sent my best mate a link to it, so I appreciate the post and the link. As far as the political comment goes- can't you just leave it for a political forum or something and just give us the comic- we have minds of our own here, as I'm sure you're aware.

Edited to add-
I don't mind the thread being locked, but please don't remove it- the comic is ace.

Admit it Locustsofdeath, the real reason you didn't like it was that it featured 'grasshoppers' and not you and your fellow locusts  ;)

Blimey, I read the comic yesterday morning before the replies started and thought it was a right good laugh in the Chick-tract mode, and just popped back in to thank Peter for the link.  Given that this is debate inspired by a comic, surely it has a place here, however much people disagree?

I wonder should there be a sub-forum under Off-Topic called Politics, rather than just the quite wonderful Politics Thread where such arguments could be had without aggravating innocent bystanders?
