While 2000ad has always been a sci-fi comic looking to the future it's never been shy of delving back into history either. Its stories span the infinite realms of time and so we need to look at which of the comics characters from across history you love too.

Pop the names of the two characters you'd like to progress into Round 2 in a reply to this thread and I'll count up early Monday 3rd August..

Aquila (Aquila) - https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Aquila
Titus Defoe (Defoe) - https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Defoe
Slaine MacRoth (Slaine) - https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Sl%C3%A1ine_MacRoth
Ampney Crucis (Ampney Crucis Investigates) - https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Ampney_Crucis_Investigates

What is all this nonsense? Well the 'rules' (ahem) for Round 1 are here:

And there's more about the structure of the tournament here:

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

I was tempted by Blackhawk Mk II, but I'm ending up with Mills' creations:
Titus Defoe
Sláine Mac{whatever-his-surname-ended-up-being}

Greg M.

Slaine discovers the joy of introducing his axe to toffee-nosed, upper-class non-entities who stand around and do nothing while the story unfolds around them.  Even one of those was too many. Meanwhile the Defoe / Aquila grudge match is rather more fiercely fought - but this round goes to the roundhead. Defoe defo.

Just about my favourite 2000AD "hero": Slaine takes top spot by many a mile.

Trailing in far behind is Aquila.

Well I think Titus Defoe is by far the most well-developed character here (yes, more than Slaine). Plus I just love the titular strip - the worldbuilding is second to none. I really hope we see it return one day.

Second is Slaine.

Little surprised by the love here for Aquila, I have to say. I like the strip, but the character himself...? Totally charisma-free.
