PS2 games- too clever for their own good.

"Maybe they'll be an option to play the game as Helm, so you just sit there and do bugger all whilst everyone else does all the work 8-)"

Yeah, I like it!

PVS presses the 'sensors' button and Rogue tells him he's doing a great job.  PVS presses it again and Rogue tells him not to get cocky.

Actually I picked up the Playstation 1 Dredd game today, hope to play it over Christmas, it looks relatively simple.

Does anyone know if the PC version of Dredd is easier to play?  I think my 3d card may cope with it and I've seen it fairly cheap on e-bay?

Incidentally, not sure if anyone is interested, but I have a boxed Intellivisiona and loads of games, I'd swap for more Atari 2600 stuff.

Unless you're like me and 'only' have a 50Hz TV, it won't run

Sorry that makes no sense. What I meant was that Metroid Prime 2 only runs on 60Hz TVs, not 50Hz TVs (which is what I have - moan moan, grumble etc..)

Hey you Big Old Bear...where's the wrong price offer on the Tesco site, or has it been removed...and slap on your wrist for not letting us know earlier!

"Does anyone know if the PC version of Dredd is easier to play?"

The mouse and keyboard combo makes it much easier to control aiming. If you have a mouse wheel you should also be able to cycle through weapons that way which is very handy.

raspberry reich

has anyone played runescape.
its awsome check it out at www.miniclip.com

Max Kon

I changed that to be second function, and the right button to be melee, never regreted it, there are only 2 weapons so cycling aint that useful. I love melee so i do :-D

Bico

Ooops!  I didn't think anyone would be interested, WOD.  Sorry!

They took it down pretty sharpish once they realised what had happened, though - then cancelled all the orders that had been made already (several hundred), but later sent e-mails out to everyone saying they'd fulfil the orders placed already as a sign of good faith.
Not like Amazon.com, who mis-priced the DVD box set of Last Exile at 21 dollars, then cancelled all the preorders.  They cover this kind of thing in their terms and conditions, apparantly.
Bastard.

I recently purchased an ex graphics rendering host on ebay, with the specific intention of playing Dredd Vs Death multiplayer, and nothing else.

An outrageous display of vulgar consumerism, some might say.

However, having watched the XBox Vs PS2 fiasco develop over the past few years, my opinions of  consoles changed somewhat. As a serious PSX freak (some 150 titles) the urge to get the next generation of consoles was strong.

BUT..

I've never been a fan of 'built in obsolescence' so denied myself the pleasure for a few years, once the prices come down, I'm in.

OR SO I THOUGHT...

Piracy is in the eye of the beholder as far as I can see it. If you've got a moral problem with it, you won't do it, and continue to support the industry through your purchases. If you don't have a problem with it, the only question is how far you are prepared to go. How long before you're trading dvd rips/cracks for pornography is any ones guess. On the other hand you may download or purchase the odd bit of pirated software or games and still purchase the full title for the ones that really matter to you.

And this is probably where the majority of senior gamers are to be found. Not hard core Warez elite, but just your average Joe who deosn't want to get ripped off, but still enjoys trusting a brand name, and the benefits that it lends the consumer.

On a final note, the saga of the new machine with blistering 128mb gfx card intended as the subsititute for a console, ends on a strange note.

After slotting in the various network cards and sound cards and new ram and and and... I prepared myself for the experience of a lifetime. The demo of Dredd Vs Death had filled me with hope, and as I adjusted the surround sound, anticiaption is too small a word.

AND THEN ...

I completed it in 6 hours.

Now, what is the approximate value of a game which I have had to upgrade for and sweated blood over to get working at its optimum, and then finished in the same day  ?

Not to mention the blatant lack of any servers hosting the multiplayer games...

I'm not going to rant about my disappointment here, it's not an appropriate medium, but suffice to say, I wasn't chuffed.

Did I not only waste my time but wasted the price of some bandwidth and 2 blank CDs ?

Meanwhile I continue to play GTA4, Quake3Arena, Unreal Tournament, Aliens Vs Predator2, Doom3 and various others including PSX titles given a new lease of life by Bleem!, long before I re-run Dredd Vs Death.

NOTE* the views espressed here are entirely hypothetical, and the author does not condone, support or endorse piracy, honestly Jason.

Yeah, but what took you 6 hours has taken other people many days...

What difficulty level were you playing it on?

First time through, it was on 'Normal' funnily enough....

I've since dabbled with 'Hard' but to be honest, its' re-playability factor is low.

Anyway, the single player option was never my intended path, but even if I was about to throw more money away on a Gamespy subscription, they don't seem to be supporting Dredd Vs Death now anyway.

If anyone knows of an independant host that's regularly offering up Dredd Vs Death, please let me know.

Also, there was a distinct lack of press re: the linear style of the game, I guess I'm not alone when I say that a bit more freedom would have been good, if not essential.

Obviously it was going to be difficult to live up to the expectations of Dredd fans who were also regular gamers, but who else was likely to buy this game ?

I've found that grabbing the Judge skins for Unreal Tournament has been considerably more entertaining, even without 'Rag Doll' technology !

I'd be interested to know what Shorelines' plans are now, and if any further games are going to made in conjunction with the film production (assuming it's still going ahead). You know, like the Starwars titles, most of which had scenes and scenarios developed simulataneously between the game producers and the film producers. For example in 'The Phantom Menace' on the PSX (still essentially a linear game) it was possible to explore the village on Coruscant at length, meeting many characters not included in the movie.

These are the kind of touches that make the difference between 'longevity' and 'flash in the pan'.

I'm ranting again, dammit.

Max Kon

I like it. I'm replaying it for the third time at the mo.

controls - don't you just get use to it after a while.  i mean, i'm the person who can only do basic combo's in tekken, and yet i managed to fumble my way through the last tomb raider game.  but i am more of a 'this button does this, that button does that' kind of person.  oh, to the days of sonic, when every button did the same thing...

price - will only buy full price if i read a good review or it's a sequal to a game i enjoyed a great deal.  just bought new prince of persia game.  sales = good

piracy = bad.

Bico

YARR!

I love that piracy exists, to be honest.  Apart from the stimulating debate that it encourages, it also helps to drive prices down.  Whatever the big companies say, the simple fact is that they've had it their own way so long that they can't see that what drives piracy isn't the greed of the consumer, but their own.  Games would cost a ridiculous amount nowadays if piracy hadn't forced the software developers to keep the prices manageable for the average consumer.  Scare-stories about drug-dealing terrorists profiting from piracy and scores of layoffs in software companies don't carry much weight when the board members give themselves great big f*ck-off pay rises every fart's end.

And before anyone jumps down me throat, I've got all three consoles, and not one of them is modded - I've also got Dredd vs Death on pc *and* PS2, so you can't say I'm not supporting Rebellion.  I even bought that poxy World War Zero.  I'd like to say it was a complete bag of sh*t, but the truth is, I played all the way through it until what I assume is the final boss - who I still haven't beat.

Anyway, what about that multiplayer online DvD deathmatch?  Has anyone sorted that out yet?

paulvonscott

Having just recently taken control of my Brothers Playstation 2, I'm going to finally buy Dredd Vs. Death and try and train myself to play it.

Dug out my PS1 game, so I'll try playing with that till I pick up DvD.

The reason is, I really would like to be able to play the Rogue Game, even if Gordon convinces the programmers not to give him testicles.  So I'm going to try... frustrating though it will be, to master a modern computer game.  Going by recent news, I have about 6 months +.
