Final fantasy 7 remake, really enjoying this so far and up to chapter 17 so should finish it this week,  and have got FFX  and Nier automata next, one upside to being furloughed

I dipped back into PSVR for a review.  I feel like VR has had its day a bit now.  It's all just turret shooters, space stuff and horror.  Meh.

I finished Red Dead Redemption 2 in February after sinking about 60-70 hours into the single player. Then I replayed the original Red Dead Redemption and now I've immediately gone back to play RDR2 again from the start.

Simply put, RDR2 is the best game I've ever played. It's hard to recommend on that basis because I honestly didn't feel that way until about 35 hours in but it's the investment and the character building that makes it hit so hard and profoundly at the end.

So yeah, wonderful game and experience that I wish it was possible to somehow share with people who don't play video games!

The Enigmatic Dr X

Just Cause 3, because my boys have nagged me to play it. Easy, simple, exposive fun.

Fifa 19, which I can give up any time I want.

Just this minute beaten Gears Tactics, I don't often play the genre because I'm terrible at it but I've dabbled in (but never managed to beat) XCOM and this was easily the most fast paced and approachable game of its type I've played. The fact I enjoy the main series helped because it's amazing how much it just feels like Gears. The interface is different but all the same hooks are there, and it turns out a shooter based around cover and flanking is perfectly suited for this kind of board game tactical play*.

I say it was accessible but do need to add that the 3 boss fights that close each of the 'acts' were massive, massive difficulty spikes for me, where the methods I'd been using to get through the rest of the game fell apart and I beat each of those after many attempts and by the skin of my teeth.

The last fight in particular definitely sent me to the obsessive gaming bad place, I lost a whole day and much of a night trying to get through it and as hellish as it felt to realize I'd messed up another attempt, when I finally did it it was through a sequence of hail marys and with a massive adrenaline rush as I realized I had the perfect weapon and was in the perfect position to make the perfect shot and take off that last sliver of the boss bar. I forgave it everything in that moment I think!

So overall great game, would recommend to anyone who likes Gears but isn't too well versed in turn based strategy (like me) because this might be the one that gets you in.

*which reminds me I do own the Gears of War board game and have left it half-painted and unplayed for about a year, perfect time to rectify that!

Played through a short (2hrs?) game called Old Man's Journey, which is on Game Pass for PC/Xbox. It's one of those nice indie games with pleasant music, an simple heart-tugging story and some very gentle puzzling. It's a good chill-out game, very like the Bob Ross of videogames. I liked it a lot but it has a lot of technical issues that were pretty annoying, it's freezes for a few seconds at a time during some animations, the music stream regularly hitches up which sounds particularly jarring, and I had to move from PC to Xbox at one point because one object on PC was misbehaving (thankfully it's an Xbox Play Anywhere game so I didn't need to start fresh on console!).

Overall a nice game and I'd say worth playing, just a shame it's tarnished by so many issues because otherwise it'd be way more of the chillout relaxing one sitting gem that it's aiming to be.

I'm a usually a once a week gamer and I really enjoyed playing snip elite 4 which I thought was really good then at Xmas my boy got me RDR2 and WOW I was blown away ( I know you regular gamers will have many "better" games)
As you said Magpie the character build is superb I'm only 50% through and I am getting carried away with all the side missions/challenges even just away on a hunt or fishing just for the heck of it.
Roaming around this huge world is superb.
For me the pace is ideal as you can decide how fast you want to go through the story good or bad!
I too will redo the story once I've completed and got a bit quicker on the draw.
Citizens are Perps who haven't been caught ... yet!

Finished Thy Sword.  It's a 2D hack and slasher with pixel art graphics (like basically 99% of indie games these days).  It's by Ratalaika Games who specialise in games that give you a platinum trophy within an hour but this was different.  This one takes a few hours and is kind of tricky, especially the boss battles.

It's really good for such a cheap game and because each level is a single screen affair, it reminded me of classic coin-ops like Bubble Bobble, Bomb Jack and Rodland a bit.

Playing Ion Fury atm. Similar to DUKE3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood. Uses the BUILD engine, got raunchy humour, gore and inventive weapons. I'm one episode in and having a blast. Stand outs for me are the fluid controls and cool soundtrack.

An odd little pixel art horror game called Distraint. A good single sitting game at only a couple of hours, and manages to conjure up a pretty good atmosphere despite the lo-fi aesthetic. Nothing mind-blowing, but kept my attention throughout.

Haven't been too active in the world of video games for some time.  Aiming to change that...:)

I thought I'd track down all the major open-world Assassin's Creed titles - and play them from beginning to end.  The only AC game I've actually played in the past is AC2 (which from memory, I rather enjoyed).

Yes, I'm only too aware that the AC games have something of a 'marmite' connotation attached to them. :)

I was able to purchase all nine (!) major AC games second-hand for the princely amount of 69 pounds ($131 Australian dollars).  Interestingly, the only title that I can't play on my PS4 is the original AC game - which I've had to resort to playing on my PC.  Looking forward to getting AC1 out of the way so I can then migrate to the comfort of the lounge to use my PS4 for the remainder.

Where possible, I'll also try to play some of the downloadable missions (some of which I might be able to get for free using activation codes, etc.).

I'm sure there will be some frustration ahead - but the journey should get more enjoyable as I progress.  Many of the titles should have had their wrinkles ironed out by now (I'm looking at you, Unity!).

The PC version of AC1 is apparently a 'Director's Cut', with some extra missions, etc.  That cost me 2 pounds 64 pence.

Watch this space!  No spoilers please. :)

The irony is that I'm still working full-time, with no isolation at home - and I have a seven-month old daughter who's suddenly learnt that she can crawl...so God only knows when I'm going to find the time to play these games!

I quite liked that one.  Totally not my sort of thing but ended up giving it a pretty favourable review.

Currently reviewing Maneater which is an RPG where you play as a shark.  Struggling with the controls a bit on this one though.

Also, I made the mistake of starting a new character and world on Terraria and now time is an illusion.

Oh, and I tried Resident Evil 2 remake.  Hmmm.  I really want to like it but the fact that you have to shoot zombies three times in the head to kill them and then they come back and need three more shots, well that's just really annoying me.

Also, I kind of hate all the puzzles.  I like the look and the way you move in it but it's no Resi 4.

Dusted off the PSVR - I've been playing a lot of Beat Saber with wrist weights in an attempt to stay limber in a fun way. Putting on weight at a rate of knots now that I'm missing my 1.5 hour round trip cycle to work each day.

Anyway, I also picked up Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners which is excellent! This is the kind of game PSVR was made for. The interactions with the move controllers are the best I've seen yet, moving around the areas does not make me feel even slightly queasy, and there is something hugely satisfying about ramming a screwdriver into a zombie skull, or giving them a rap with a certain barbed-wire bat.

It's early days for gameplay, but I'm loving the find/craft/survive mechanic. Interactions with other characters are fun, and creeping around houses scavenging while quietly taking out the undead is a great balance between risk and reward. You can even climb up drainpipes, duck under broken fences and so on - loads of environmental actions. Even your inventory is easy to access, and grabbing motions over your shoulder or at your hip will get your favoured weapon to hand quickly. All very slick!

Also, I needed a mindless fun game, so opted for Maneater. Anyone who loves shark films, or at least Jaws and Hookjaw, will find this vacuous fun, but hugely enjoyable. Turn your brain off, and go eat everything in the immediate environment, one that is superb eye candy. Maybe a little pricey at £35, but I felt I needed to switch off from the world for a bit, and this really did the trick. Also, I don't usually like jokes in games as I find they fall a bit flat, but we were both chuckling at the announcer's witticisms throughout. Recommended!

Finished Killer is dead. I'm a big fan of Suda 51, but I didn't think this game was very good. Lacked the charm and personality of his other ones. Had high hopes since it looked like a mix of No more heroes sword play, Killer 7 aesthetics and gunplay of Shadows of the Damned. But it didn't deliver at all for me.

Interesting!  I quite liked Arizona Sunshine and this sounds like a more developed version of it.  Will check it out.

Aside from reviewing more random indie tat I also made a terrible mistake and reinstalled Terraria which is a total timesink.
