Yes, it does: Go into a forest where a tree is falling, hide in the bushes, and listen for the sound.

Why is a mouse when it runs?

General / The Change in Dredd
08 January, 2003, 01:33:42 AM
Having recently read the Apocalypse War and Judge Cal, I have not quite finished spouting on about them yet.  There is a huge difference between the writing style of the two: Judge Cal still seems like a kids' comic ('We think you're really scrotnig, Chief Judge!', Dredd snapping chains in a fit of rage, etc), whilst the Apocalypse War seems to be for a more adult, film-going crowd (complex Cold War military theory, judges sacrificing civilians to keep out the red menace, etc). When did this change come about? Was it sudden or gradual? Tell me! TELL ME!

I've said this before, but it has to be Bad Jack Keller in the Mean Team 2:

'Don't waste time, lads... JUST WASTE 'EM INSTEAD!'

Not sure why, but I really liked this one from the Apolcalypse War when the tidal wave wrecked the Atlantic Wall:
'Damage Report?'
'Total!'

General / My Christmas present to me
28 December, 2002, 10:15:20 PM
I haven't been around these parts in a while, but I hope you all had a merry Christmas, and will have a happy New Year.
Anyway, I had a stroke of luck before Christmas: I went into a bookshop, and found loads and loads of old comics for 1 euro (69p stg.?) a go. There was no 2000ads, but loads of American reprints of old stuff, including Sl?ine in Sky Chariots, Rogue Trooper in his earliest stories, Judge Dredd in Judge Cal, the Midnight Surfer, Block Mania and the Apocalypse War (neither of which I had read before). So basically loads of the good stuff from the early days, and none of the muck. Most were coloured in those old fashioned colouredy dots, which worked surprisingly well for Dredd (it's the way it used to be coloured in 2000ad, after all), but not for Sl?ine at all.
The only thing I'm pissed off about is that I couldn't find the last few episodes of the Apocalypse War and the first few of Block Mania, but all said and done the Apocalypse War is my new favourite Dredd epic (I kind of know the ending anyway). One thing bothers me, though: when Dredd launched the unsuccessful TAD strike was he planning on blowing up the entire world with East Meg 1? Cheers, Dredd, drag us into it too why don't you.

I actually didn't mind the Robin Hood thing; despite some very dodgy dialogue and continuity. I haven't, however, enjoyed anything else in Sl?ine since the Horned God, apart from the complete prog thingy which was alright.
Pat Mills was never too big on continuity: weren't Nemesis and Deadlock the same person till recently when Nemesis died and Deadlock was still there? Good luck.

I learned what the word 'eunuch' meant from Sl?ine the Horned God. Cheers for that one, Pat!

Alright, Boudicca, but I think you'll win the race. If I have a deadline, I will complete my assignment by leaving all the important stuff to the last 2 days, and staying up all night the night before.
Thanks a million to the other two punters for the tips on lettering, by the way.

Thank y'all, folks. It will, I hope, be scripted and drawn by me when it's done. I'm not sure about how to go about the lettering, but I'll work something out. Like I say, though, don't expect Alan Moore and Simon Bisley to be running for their money.
Thanks in particular for seeneester and Oddboy for the kick up the swiss roll. Ooyah, as they say in Buster.

The reason I ask is because I want to do a 2000ad fan strip, but am a lazy bastid; and so have put it off for about six months. Not saying it'll be anything too spectacular, but I'll try and put it somewhere on the Internet by the 25th of January. Now that I've set my own deadline, I might just get up off my hole and do it, so if anyone remembers by then (which is asking a lot, I know) please hold me to that or I'll never get the fecker done.

You've never seen Podge and Rodge, apparently. Same punters who did Zig and Zag, only much filthier. Another quote (concerning a mutant who has grown beneath the plughole of a sink):
'Jaysus! I wouldn't like some lad stuck in my wastepipe'. I think they have a website, not sure what its address is, though. Jared?

Yeah, but I wish the Cursed Earth was as hard-arsed as it used to be. Tyrannosaurs climbing abandoned churches are what I'm after; not poxy work-farms and bubble-towns. Respect to Robbie Morrison for inventing that massive city on wheels driven by slaves; now that's the kind of Cursed Earth I like.
