Doesn't need to fire bullets, it's often blanks that kill people

Damn right it did. I left my cups on the counter instead of the dishwasher at work (HA!) and wrote a strongly worded web message to my bank (BOOM!)

I scare myself sometimes

Nothing to compete with exploding boats, redundancy or depression, but this last couple of weeks has just been one annoying shitshow after another.

First my phone just died - could not get a charge in. No problem, I thought, everything I do on my phone I can do on my laptop. Until I tried logging into my bank, work systems, Amazon etc ... "We have sent a code to your phone...." This was also the day when I was getting a new cooker delivered between 7am and 7pm .. "we will text you an ETA and call when we're on our way...."

Got a new phone, and headed to the cashpoint. Got so distracted taking down the details of a free draw advertised on the screen, I walked away without taking my cash - somebody got an early £200 Christmas present. As I'd drawn my limit, had to wait to next day to get some cash. Cashpoint crashed and shut down halfway through, stealing my card. My new card should have been here in 3-5 working days - today is day 8 since I reported it. I've had to get time off work this afternoon to visit the branch in the City Centre as I'm skint and the fridge is empty.

And today, I turned up to work to find I'd lost my pass and they wouldn't let me in the building (I've worked there for 20 years). Took a while to sort out - had to call my manager at home, who logged the request and texted me the reference so they could issue a new one - all time that I will have to make up later.

All minor niggles, but taken together this month does seem to have it in for me.

Just caught up on this thread and holy shit, glad you're still alive mate. Gutted for you about your boat/home. Was this you?

...a commercial bakers in Dundee...

Do you mean Clark's Bakery - just round the corner from Highlander Games?

Not sure - this was over 30 years ago , I've just had a look and that building is clearly newer than that, but I did have friends on Peddie St, just round the corner, so maybe. I was usually drunk and with other people, not sure I could have found it again even 25 years ago!

Best bakery I ever knew wasn't a shop but a commercial bakers in Dundee that worked through the night to supply pies and rolls to local shops. They didn't advertise, but if you went round the back of the yard in the wee hours there was a grubby handwritten price list sellotaped to the back door and you could buy hot pasties for about 20p - great to fortify you for a drunken slog up the Hilltown after a night out!

Latham's steak and kidney pies. Heaven in a crust.

Can't beat Hollands in my book, all the way from Ramsbottom.

I thought it was a typo at first when it said he was 90 - my mum's 90 and she struggles getting to the bottom of her garden these days.

Just noticed Lizzie Boyle is back on Gums too!

Last time I saw Lizzie & Conor, I greeted them with "Hey, it's the creator of the greatest shark story in recent years … and her husband"*

*If you didn't know, Conor drew the fantastic Hookjaw reboot a few years ago

The set-up sounds very ripe for clichés. I can almost write the mismatched bunch of wannabes and their backstories myself.

BTW, did anyone else read "Dear Becky" the Boys comic sequel? Wasn't bad.
