Who cornered the market in belly wheels?

Hi hippynumber1, Glad that you liked my scribblings. Yes I was heavily influenced by Ron Smith and Dave Gibbons. Robin Smith helped a heck of a lot but I think it takes time to find a style of your own and I don't think I really ever did.  The futureshocks that I drew were The Sum of the Parts prog 351 and Gorilla Warfare prog 373 (originally titled Cruise but changed for some reason.) Really pleased that you like Death on a Lawmaster. I never considered that anyone would offer to buy it . Let me consider it and I will get back to you. Best Regards Steve

HI, I have placed copies of my unpublished DREDD artwork which I submitted to 2000AD which led to my producing 2 Futureshocks in the eighties on my blog which I thought might be of interest to aspiring artists. http://stevehattonblog.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/my-unpublished-2000ad-artwork/

I've also added some artwork which led to me writing my novel FROSTBITE

Creative Common / Re: New artist here

Hi new artist, I felt that someone should take a stab at answering you so here goes. I used to use bristol board many years ago. It's available at most art shops. With modern printing methods I would imagine that  a range of black pens would be fine. It depends a lot on your style, as certain graduated lines are easier with a brush. Keep a good balance of black to white on the page and dont be tempted to over ink. Best of luck and maybe someone with more recent experience will give his reply.  Best Wishes Steveh

General / Re: Dredd Artists

The production of artwork back in the day was frantic and quite frankly I don't know how regular artists coped with the timescales. I only produced artwork for two futureshocks (the sum of the parts prog 351 and gorilla warfare prog 373)  but not being a professional artist, I found it to be an easier living as an engineering design engineer. I appreciate that everyone will have their favorites but sometimes artists are forced into methods not necessairly reflective of their ultimate abilities due to time constraints. I admire greatly all of the artists and writers who have contributed to the best comic of all. Best Regards, Steve Hatton

There was a story called Chopper which I think spilled over from a Dredd story. Any idea who wrote it and drew it?

Hi I'm Steve Hatton and I was fortunate to produce artwork for 2000AD futureshocks called CRUISE and THE SUM OF THE PARTS back in 1984. I have a book published on Amazon and Kindle called FROSTBITE which is in the same vein as the stories that you are used to. Set in a future cataclysmic ice age, it is an all action roller coaster adventure using jump-jet jet sleds. I hope that it will appeal to devotees of 2000AD. I add its URLs if you wish to read a preview.

Welcome to the board / RON SMITH MY INSPIRATION
11 April, 2013, 07:39:36 PM
After all these years I finally get to see what the great Ron Smith looks like. I never got to meet any of the other artists of my era (1984) but I'm so pleased to see Ron looking so happy and healthy ready for his book signing in London. I wish I could have been half the artist he is. I e-mailed my youngest son who works in London about the event and he's eager to go along. Hope that Ron gets the support he deserves because to me he is the Michelangelo of comic strip. Best regards, Steve Hatton
